It takes an extraordinary amount of courage to look into and confront the messages of one's dreams. Since dreams come from the unconscious and share messages with consciousness, they therefore show us things we do not know about ourselves, and often those messages can be very uncomfortable to hear. This is where courage plays an integral part in dream analysis. L, my client, has an admirable quality in his character to be able to take the messages of his dreams head-on, with acceptance and bravery, and confront those parts of himself in order to grow as a person.
When interpreting, my job is simply to translate the messages of the unconscious from the dream. I do not have the authority to determine whether the interpretation is correct; that decision rests entirely with the analysand. They will have no problem informing you if you're mistaken. In the event I am incorrect with the interpretation, I simply accept and change my approach.
To confirm the accuracy of a dream interpretation, it will "click" with the dreamer, evident by a change in their expression and a burst of energy. You can also discern if it triggers them or if they become silent out of embarrassment. In a trusting relationship between the analyst and analysand, there is nothing to be embarrassed about; all judgment is tossed aside. The prerogative is only to be the best translator possible as the dream will offer the prognosis and diagnosis.
