i also like Hung at Heart. i think they were pretty much at their highest creativity there. Also i loved the frist 3 so to say. But whatever, i love their music ❤️🌝
@@alanlozano8256 This was actually at a little place called Cargo in Reno, NV after City Club came out. Great show and Brooks signed some stuff for us since he was just hanging outside beforehand.
i always knew Brooks was in a lower register but ive never watched any interviews or anything and goddamn he practically sings in falsetto compared to his fucking speaking voice holy shit
This is quite a controversial band as they've been accused and affirmed of one (or multiple) cases of sexual assault. I chose not to talk about this in the video since i've been a fan of the band since before this happened and wanted to focus on the music. But i guess it's pointless to not make a statement after all. What these guys did makes me sick to my bones. And nothing they'll ever do will make up for what they did to those women. This video is in no way intended to support their horrible acts. It's an isolated look at their music. And i hope it can be treated as such. If you want to know more about their misconducts, you're only a google search away.
Never herd of it, and the whole burger records thing until some people started mentioning it here. Huge growlers fan too, so this is like a metalhead discovering the Manson issues. This misconduct thing is turning into more of an epidemic than the previous one. We, in the states, hear of at least a couple reports weekly of actors, musicians and govt. officials on both sides getting exposed for mistreating women. Glad for the exposure, but sickened for how many people are strictly dedicated to treating a fellow human that way.
Yes!! Finally a video discussing the growlers! I watched “Nate the mate”s video on movements, my all time favorite band and was waiting if he ever discovers the growler. But here you are! Im so glad
Ive noticed recently as I start listening to them again that their music is like exceptionally bass forward. Especially on the slightly newer releases like City Club and Chinese Fountain. Night ride even is essentially a lead bass track, its just the bass, drums and some keys for ambiance. It almost always is the centerpiece.
Oh my christ how have I not seen your video on them yet,im crying right now ,the growlers just take me back to such a better time, used to watch your videos so much I just had no clue this came out I feel ashamed
@@LieLikesMusic I fucking love IDLES. It is one of the bands that I love the most of the new era. But the one I love even more is PROTOMARTYR. One of the reasons why I follow your channel is because you have a musical taste very similar to mine, so I highly recommend it if you haven't heard it yet. Saludos desde Argentina!
@@rodrisoulalalia6278 Cool i'll check them out. I did an interview with Joe and Mark from Idles just a week ago. So you can expect something on them in the future ;)
Dan is a music genius, The Black Keys is one a my top 3 favorite bands, but i've heard what The Growlers and Dan did and it was a little dissapointing. I admire the most The Growlers for having the strong conviction to stand up and claim that their version was better, even with a consolidated producer like Dan
as a fan i can say that you forgot a lot of stuff that happened to they all theese years, the fire, members leaving, Scott moving from bass to drums and the inclusion of Anthony on bass gave they a way more solid sound, in my opinion, city club is a great album that shows a lot of work on it, but it dissapointed me like almost all long time fans, i found it really hard to listen to it at first, i loved chinese fountain and hung at heart, so all the changes that came with city club were, at least, hard to accept, and the departure of scott and anthony gave me hard feelings about this new era, in addition, i felt that the new members didn't match at all with the whole band style, thankfully time made me appreciate the new growlers, and the step back to the roots of their music with casual acquaintances made me really happy when i first got to listen to it, they had to go through all of this to become what they are and what they mean to us the fans, and at last you didnt mention the pause they took due to known problems while on tour in Australia.
Night Ride and Dull Boy remind me so much of the Arctic Monkeys! Would be absolutely cool, if the Growlers would make a collab with the Arctic Monkeys. Brooks voice with Alex's...
I got to see these dudes live twice, both times I got to meet all of them and give drugs to some of them. They were like beyond my favorite band when Hung at Heart came out so it was literally like doing molly with Jim Morrison lol they’re the chillest dudes. good times.
i know beach goth was a joke coined by them, but my friends and i definitely unironically called it that as kids. i remember seeing king krule at beach goth 2016 then we were in the very front to see the drums, but it started pouring and everyone rushed back inside the venue where the drums announced they’d play there instead, so suddenly we were at the back of the crowd and left😂
Monotony is a slow killer. Likewise, delusion says; I know nothing stays the same. Things always change. But you and I will remain. The truth is... -> you really are alone. And what you truly want -> is to be free. As funny as it sounds it’s all we want. To not have our egos bound with the rays of sun. Because, underneath all of your worry and doubt -> some thing or somebody is trying to get out. -> -> True love wears a veil.... Nobody ever asks brooks where he obtained his wisdom and insight. He’s deep yet his arrow incident shows he’s still a work in progress. And that’s ok. He like their music is ever changing and evolving
Oh wow, one of the more inspiring bands for me until Scott Montoya left and the sound was gone with him. I remember seeing them post City Club and the crowd change was so crazy, from normal psychedelic music lovers to models on coke with rich guys trying to be hipster, always near the bar not even paying attention to the gig. This band broke my heart. But I understand, you gotta make that skrilla
While I agree with your observation I truly think if you wanna great intro album into the growlers hung at heart is where you wanna turn to than Chinese fountain, city club, are you in or out, gilded pleasures than hot tropics. That is the list I’d make for someone who wants to get into them personally speaking I don’t at all like their 2 newest albums but that’s me
I came here to check the chanel by the advice of Dmitry Mozzhukhin - a leader of russian band Dayte tank(!). The band is also have that lo-fi underground sound, wich include a lot of different genre. I gess he (also his band) was enspired by the Growlers. Thank you, awsome work and increadeble quality for some rison hadn't the aproprite assessment
keep up the good work. seems its only getting better. I personally am not a fan of the last 3-4 albums of the band i really prefered the earlier sound but that is just personal preference. either way just wantd to give u some headsup
Thanks :) I'm glad you dig it. And i definitely see why. The broader and more appealing sound definitely has less charm and personality compared to the earlier stuff in a way.
@Nick Comaratta People call say 'beware doll, you're bound to fall' You thought they were all kidding you You used to laugh about Everybody that was hanging out Now you don't talk so loud Now you don't seem so proud
What made their art was possibly driven by studio techniques that may have involved rape, abuse or violence. After the Manson stuff came out, it made me wonder what was going on behind the scenes during the recording sessions. They may needed to do some horrible act to someone to get a vocal take because art. These allegations go deeper than someone saying that they’ve done something.
@@thirdeyelandslide_ I mean have you seen the shit that motely crue has done to girls? Rock and roll has a history of fucked up shit, it's even subliminally in songs. I don't agree with the abuse of these bands, but I question a lot since the light came out on all these bands I even witnessed it myself at shows how these band dudes like to rub off on women both promiscuous and "innocent" I guess you can say, rock and roll is really devilish
@@Zurdo_Grease Sexual abuse is nothing to do with rock n roll, it's to do with perceived power. Whether it's an overreaching boss, a family member, or a celebrity, these people act on a notion that they can get away with it because of their position, or social standing. They're all scum. Especially Motley Crue.
What are your thoughts on the sexual assault allegations w/the band? I've been a fan for a while and was supposed to see them twice in 2020 before everything went to shit. You think they'll bounce back?
I think they've lost a part of their audience forever. But there seems to be others that forgive them. So if they don't get into any more trouble i think they'll still be able to play live. More venues and media outlets are going to neglect them in the next months and years cause no one wants to be involved with criminals. So they'll have to be careful and smarter from now on.
They used to be my favourite band, but in light of some of their scandals I just can't support them anymore :( Also Julian Casablancas ruined their sound.
@@jamestheman9084 Too spread the word about these dangerous people. Also, this video is where I found out about the accusations, so it’s a good thing that other people are speaking out as well.
Pretty disappointed to see this without at even one mention of the allegations against the band, and it's pretty insensitive tbh. the least you could have done was put a trigger warning. How did it not once cross your mind that this might be incredibly triggering for assault survivors who work in the music industry? Please delete this.
Seperate the music from the artist. I understand the allegations are bad but take a deep dive in your playlist and see how much of the artists you listen to are disturbed individuals. So what are you really triggered by? the acts or are you jumping on the wagon of noise?
Their albums from are you in to Chinese fountain are their best ,nothing against to their newer albums but those albums define who they are. Hopefully they come back and start making music and touring.
I feel like Warren from the Abilgails was a big influence early and I believe that he was in the original incarnation. Also, it can’t be stated enough how important Mike McHugh from the Distillery was to help the band “self-produce”. At the least he was an amazing engineer and had a beautiful understanding of his analog heaven. Mike worked with a lot of legendary bands.
