DACA recipient Jin Park talks about becoming the first undocumented immigrant to earn a Rhodes Scholarship and what it means to him to be an American. #DACA #jinpark #CNN #News
I am so happy this brilliant young man considers himself an American and wishes to contribute to the health of our citizens. May he be granted citizenship soon.
It's unfortunate one of his first actions was to break the law and enter the Us illegally. Maybe we should support those who don't break the law and are already here instead of rewarding people who break the law.
@@franklin5000 theres a difference between coming to this country illegally and not being able to maintain the legal status after coming here legally. a big portion of DACA recipients fall under this category which I think is more unfortunate than those who broke the law to begin with.
@@richardscott6793 not all DACA recipients have broke the law to enter the US illegally. a lot of them have come here legally and stood in line like everyone else but for many reasons along the way, which could be years or even decades, they may have lost their legal status. im sure this guy in the video is under this category.. my point is he may have never broken any rule of law
@@franklin5000 did I say that most of daca kids fall under that cateogry? i didnt. and merit based immigration is another topic. we can pick another day for that. and dont be so certain when you say "most" immigrants are how you described in your comment.. because it seems to come from the emotional/greed stand point rather than facts/stats based
@。岷褪黨素菜1 the bigger problem is that academia openly denies entry to whites and Asians so that people of color get preference. Yet the guy in this video says nothing about this discrimination.
I'm from Barcelona (Spain), I'm a Doctor. Been twice to the USA for tourism and for an english program. Boston and NY. It's so childish to cry because the guy next to you has worked harder and has outsmarted you. Grow up, deal with it and next time work twice harder to beat competitive guys like the one from the video. You should be proud talent wants to stay and contribute to make your country better.
K Philly shithole country lol In my country when a person has a heart attack and goes to the hospital, doesn't leave with a bill of 150000$ if he doesn't have insurance. It's called Welfare Society (I know you have no idea, bad for you), and you pay with your taxes the public health system. Third best health system in the last worldwide rankings 😘. If you weren't stupid, you'd demand your polititans a good health system like ours, or the ones in France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark,... But for you weapons are more important. All right! 😂 Trust me, I wouldn't change my awesome Barcelona and my beautiful country for a shithole country like yours. Cheers!
Its about supremacy by advantage. The politicians use these people as a scapegoat for there problems. Its been happening since slavery was abloshed and the lazy members of society wanted to fight hard to continue having other people do their work.
You just perfectly described the average American leftist when you stated that it's childish to cry when someone works twice as hard as you. Lol, liberals do that and demand equal outcome instead of opportunity.
floresiensis999, Thank you for dropping knowledge on this Trumptard. Them and their emperor love to label other countries ‘shithole’. The US is the shiftiest country in the developed world. Trump “loves the uneducated “.
@@TenderAce ABSOLUTE RULES never produce good results. Seeking solutions that actually serve the common good requires intelligent, non-arbitrary laws that take everything into account. I realize that our elected leaders are incapable of that kind of finely tuned thinking. And, ALL OF US LOSE by this mindset--one that is 100% based on prejudice. (Remember the "shithole country" vs. desire for Norwegian immigrants? That made the real truth crystal clear!)
Hey, Jin if the Yanks don't want you Canada will gladly welcome your intelligence and your talents, feel free to bring your family as well. I'm sure they'll easily fit in.
Ian I would look into that first, Canada lets in 1/1000s of the refugees and 1/10000000 of the illegals. YOU are a hypocrite and your country is filled with the like. Well I do kinda like BC.
brian gardner - So we have better enforced immigration and refugee laws, but you like B.C. where the majority of illegals and refugees end up because it's a port of entry. That's a little bit hypocritical there in itself. Are you sure you're not just a little biased to B.C. cause they grow the best weed?
@@jayluck8047 I did not know that last nugget of fact. I like BC because I served with some Canadian soldiers mostly from BC and I also use to live near the border in north Idaho. Also love the mountains.
@@girlonfire00net Brian making up numbers to bolster you false claims is childish and reveals much about you. Go eat turkey you fool and try to convince your kids you're not the ass your clearly are. 1/1000s and 1/10,000,000 of what? You idiot. Our geography dictates that the majority of those who do arrive come by planes. So most of the refugees are invited and most of those who are illegal over stay their visa after they run out. Only since Trump have we a large increase in walk ins. And as for that young man he'd be more welcome by this countries citizen than a jackass like you.
Liberals are idiots composed by BLM , Antifa , Feminist , LGBT which all have shown not to have the highest IQ , I'm a trump supporter and live in Mexico also in the 9th grade
Mexico and Central/ South America are NOT 'sending us their best', so-to-speak, because it's cheaper for these countries to send their criminals to the US than to house them in prisons when they commit crimes. This is well-known, not a made-up talking point. This young man is South Korean, a country that IS sending some of their best citizens, and obviously one in a million as for achievements. I don't know why they are using him as an example, he is definitely an exceptional person, not to be compared to DACA recipients nor even to the majority of US citizens.
Lol yeah because every ilegal is graduating college 🤦♂️ the president was referring to the ILEGALS coming from mexico . I dont think this guy is mexican lol
@@MonroesCorner because CNN is fake news and loves to mold the story to fit their agenda like when they said trump said ALL Mexicans are racist which is a lie
PSVR 777 Give legal status to geniuses like this scholar who can make usa 🇺🇸 even richer! If we don’t they will recruited by China 🇨🇳 or the EU then our Tech and corporate firms will less competitive.
The amount of traitors living in the US, masquerading as citizens is a problem. They thank criminal families and frauds who soak up resources. Oddly enough, they wouldnt allow this behavior if they were footing the bill and housing the people. Pure stupidity.
For all of the haters in the comments section here, .... If you didnt want him to have that scholarship, you should have went there and earned it away from him,... and in that same dream i could have mcdonalds fries ,for the rest of my life , free.
Wowww this just proves that it’s not just people from the southern boarder that are apart of daca. It’s people from everywhere and I’m happy he is making a difference in the nation.
This is why liberal ideals are better. There is a larger and better understanding of what America is and what an American is. To a Conservative, especially to those that support Trump, this guy and other immigrants may not be considered American even with citizenship. They would probably tell them to go back to where they came from and even consider them to not be American even after obtaining citizenship.
Liberals accept open borders and letting actual criminals in , if you would take your time and look up the latest caravan you'll see that those people have 0 education and have no morales
“The fruits of your labor have to be spread around?” Obviously you’re in our country! If it’s so shitty go back to your country! Oh but he doesn’t want to go back to Korea. I hate when people complain about us but want to be here. Isn’t it ironic?!
Not a Trump supporter. I am also korean. However, I believe in justice and lawful society. If you do not possess legal ability to stay in anywhere in the world and breaching the law by already doing so, you should be ashamed of yourself and do not blame the justice system for it. You broke the law, you deserve the consequence. Simple as that. The society doesnt necessarily have to embrace everyone especially if you are not legally staying. World is tough and you should deal with it.
Edric Jun I get what you're saying but this guy is different not because of his national origin (non-Hispanic, as some are pointing out) but because he is exceptionally intelligent. The US should be able to give him citizenship and use his intelligence. If not, some other country will.
PSVR 777 Give legal status to geniuses like this scholar who can make usa 🇺🇸 even greater and richer! If we don’t they will be recruited by Korea, China 🇨🇳 or the EU then our Tech and corporate firms will less competitive. Lets have all the aces in our cards!

I am Korean who came legally with my family in the late '70s but I do not agree with him and my family had to wait years before we were approved come to the U.S. If he really wants to be an American do it legally that is a start of being an American citizen.
@@evelynlo458 For someone whose family worked and waited 17 years to get a legal permanent residency status in Canada and are now looking to apply for Canadian citizenship, I agree. (I actually tried to immigrate to the US while living there for 5 years and failed so I do know what it is like to be an immigrant in the USA) I hope with his level of intelligence, he can find another country to immigrate and start a new life, working towards his own family, a pension, and give a better life for his parents. USA doesn't deserve him anyways... He could even make great changes in Korea if he goes back, but he probably won't.... To be honest if he doesn't immigrate somewhere sooner or later his Korean passport won't be renewable unless he goes to the Korean military. It's a ticking time bomb and he probably knows this as well.
I think it would be dumb for US to deny citizenship to this guy. He's clearly brilliant. However this doesn't justify illegal immigrants whatsoever. Trump supporters aren't anti-immigration, they are anti-illegal immigration. I think that makes sense.
This situation is such a tough one for me. I'm really on the fence, because both sides make great points. I'm an American, born from parents who immigrated to the US from the Philippines. On the one hand, I applaud this talented young man for his accomplishments and his contributions to the U.S.A. and humanity in general. I really wish he gets citizenship. We could use great people like him! On the other hand, I felt like he dodged the question about laws and why people should follow them. I'm currently a visiting professor at a South Korean university. Before immigrating, I made sure I followed every single immigration requirement, no matter how tedious and arduous, to make sure I came here legally with proper documents. To me, following the laws of my host country was a sign of the utmost respect. Since I followed the laws, why aren't all immigrants expected to do the same? Overall, I think immigration is a fantastic thing and usually a net benefit for nation-states. And I hope one day laws concerning immigration will be less restrictive to allow for easier movement, but until that happens, don't we all have to follow the law? Folks on both sides..set me straight, haha.
I was just curious as to how many people actually took some time into searching up whether he is ellible or not based on the scholarship trusts qualification. www.rhodesscholar.org/applying-for-the-scholarship/ If he's DACA recipient, then he is eligible unless he didn't obtain the status before April 15. That really should be the end of story.
simple question: Would a channel like fox news would invite him or guy like him, i mean DACA recipient that have been succesful, to give them an interview and a plateform to broadcast their message?
Just like Hillary had 98% chance of winning on election night? What about the blue wave ? Lol not trying to be mean but come on! Be realistic and stop believing CNN when they tell you EVERYDAY they finally got the thing that will bring trump down.
@@nick-wl8hf that's what I mean. You people say this huge blue wave and it wasn't. It's good to keep hopes up but not being realistic is just going to hurt you even more when things dont go your way like in 2016. It was obvious that trump was going to win if you look at things from outside perspective and not listen to the news.im sure trump will .be president again. It's just sad that you people are everything anti trump. Someone can be good and you wont like him because he is with trump. Same goes to the other side. The bias in this country is pretty disgusting. I wish people would start looking things up themselves instead of blindly believing cable news and Facebook. I wish you the best and I hope all this crap eventually ends . God bless 👍
What a true American ! This is what our Nation needs. Intelligent , thoughtful , articulate ,young man . He has insight to the modern day experience of a undocumented person. He must become a citizen , He's giving to our Nation We benefit because he is here sharing his gifts and talents with us . Thank you Mr. Parks for all you are, and all you'll become . God Bless you and your family .
A Rhodes scholarship is not the same as a path of citizenship. No one disputes that there can be exceptional foreigners or illegal aliens. But being intelligent or well-educated doesn't entitle you to citizenship. There is an entire process involved to become a citizen. The refusal to acknowledge this simple concept shows a disregard of america being a nation of laws. Still, I know he never asked for his situation, and I hope things work out.
He received scholar and entered Harvard. He deserves it. It not like the stealing opportunity from the Americans. Everyone sat on the same test, and the outcome may varies. That equality.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest (first awarded in 1902) and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship program, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in England. It is an international award... so what's the big bitch, haters?
I'm surprised there would be any question of his ability to contribute to American society.... A Rhodes scholarship is not given out willynilly... they're incredibly difficult to earn... He's earned his right to be counted as American.
Was it just me, or did I not hear one word about applying for citizenship? Why is that, exactly? I mean, was he looking for trouble? Because, here it is
@@trilxx4215 It may be convenient for you to dismiss what I said based upon that presumption, but it is hardly material to the question. Perhaps it is you who are jealous of me, because I am clearly far more intelligent than you
@@trilxx4215 And what of your username, pal? In a nutshell, it implies suicidal. Hardly intelligent, in my estimation. But, you just go ahead and keep thinking like that; judging books by their covers without ever bothering to actually read them
Put him in jail for breaking the law! Other people have to follow the law but democrats only want people to follow the law when it benefits them. He can be a new 9th circuit judge.
Undocumented children and adults who initially came to America with their parents should not be punished for the actions of their parents. They had no other choice and grew up in America and this is the only country they have known. It is their only home and country regardless of their legal status.
Those citizens who speak of, set their own limits. Obviously not as high and unique as the presented DACA recipient. Many like him actually don't get federal aid to pay college some even pay out of state. Now shut the fuck about not giving equal opportunity to their own citizens because that's just some pussy talk. Can't get mad at the game if the other player is well hella skilled than you are
You obviously don't know anything about the Rhode Scholarship but still felt the need to claim prior privilege over it. Rhodes scholarship is for Oxford, not America, so they're not taking anything away from their own citizens since their own would be British.
Please don't tell me that their is no one more smarter than this Kid. Could this scholarship gone to someone who is a Citizen or a legal Immigrant. I am pretty sure yes. This is the problem with Democrats going crazy with Illegal immigration.
Why are the haters complaining? Jin Park worked his butt off to earn the Rhodes Scholarship. With the way education is changing, the options are “be exceptionally smart” or “be mediocre smart.” My message to the complainers, go study your butt off if you want to win a scholarship that will most likely cover your tuition and other college expenses.

I really think USA should give those high educated people citizenship. rather than those escapers or illegal comers. There should be two policies for different groups of people according to people's utilities and professionas.
@Greg Americans are the least educated people in the world, we are dumb. It's not all our fault, we do have some of the worst schools in all the first world nations.
@Greg They strive to go to college in America because it is an easy way to get into the country. What high paying jobs? Outside of the tech companies, which you have to go into a few hundred thousand dollars of student loans to get into, there really are none. They want to come to America because we are a little more free than most places, but it has nothing to do with academics or pay. I mean yeah, it's better than the dollar a day you would get for working in China but that's all that can really be said about it.
I’m so tired of people who don’t deal with USCIS on a daily bases asking why illegals aren’t citizens. I deal with them daily/weekly. It takes YEARS to become a citizen. I’m not talking 1-2. I’m talking sometimes 10-20 years. My husband has been a citizenship since he was 5. In an out-of-state move, he lost his citizenship and he never applied for a passport because he always went on tour with his Colombian passport and citizenship. (I know stupid AF). We applied for a replacement and followed all their paperwork and expedition guidelines. We were told it would take 3-5 months to a year to receive an approval notice and then 3 more months to receive the citizenship. Guess what, it’s been over 2 years and 3 months, and still no citizenship. We have the approval letter but still no citizenship. First they say they lost it in shipping. Then, they opened a case to find it. Then they admitted to never sending it. I travel a lot and hate traveling without my husband as I’d love to take him on all my adventures. But, hey, 🤷🏻♀️ he should’ve been more responsible. We’ve spent over 1K and have waited over 2 years for something they said would take 1 year at the most. You will also never speak to the same person twice. A supervisor takes days-weeks to get back to you. No one know jack about what’s going on and sometimes you don’t get a human at all. A robot that repeats everything that’s already on the website and hangs up on you at the end of the call. The in-person offices don’t deal with replacements and everything is done by usps (which we all know is reliable). This is us only trying to replace a piece of paper he ALREADY had. Can you imagine a new citizenship?? I agree that people should come here legally but unless you’ve dealt with USCIS as much as I have these past 2 years, please do your research. It took my aunt 18 years to get her citizenship and my other aunt 15 years. For all you know, this kid is in the system. So please educate yourselves before you go kicking a hardworking, proactive member of-our community, out of the country.
