Pete the Built-in VCR on the little CRT just needs new belts I have the Same TV on my desk. If you don't sell it I say keep it in the shop as a Shop TV for a Security Camera Monitor just an idea I had. Have a safe and happy holiday from the Detroit Area.

Great video Pete, The other day i was heading to meet with someone that was selling me a bunch of records and i had about 45mins to kill so i decided to stop by a few goodwills and i scored huge and found a brand in still in the sealed box vintage Marantz model 2270 receiver, Pete i know you know how much these are worth used in good working condition, The one i found is brand new never been opened. I opened it just to make sure it was the correct item inside and it sure was. I cannot believe i found one of these models new in box. Just like you said you never know what you will find when out sourcing and everything is sort of kit or miss but if you are consistently out sourcing or trying to find stuff you will score sometimes and sometimes you will not. Thanks for another great video Pete, Cheers

1:04 300 to 400 Dollars?! I bought one a few years ago with both NTSC and PAL brand new for 15 euro. It's an LG but it works very well.

Yeah I know right... most of the stuff this guy sells to people he rips them off massively! I wouldn’t buy none of that stuff for those prices, not when you go online ( Ebay, Amazon etc ) and buy it all brand new for literally a tenner or less. 🤣👌
@RoyalArmyMedicalCorps

You can even buy genuine gold cheaper than jewellers. I buy my jewellery from Hatton Gardens ( London ) though because I know one hundred percent it’s real, i do it for peace of mind basically because you just don’t know nowadays what you are getting when you purchase online! I’ve spoken to some people who have purchased from Peter and they told me the items aren’t what there described to be apparently and also the conditions of the item are really poor! They were shocked when they received it because in the description it was described to be in a very good condition and working but it wasn’t at all... snm smh
@DoubleMonoLR

That did seem very excessive, but I think NTSC units that supported PAL were less common than PAL units that supported NTSC. Likewise for CRT TVs.
@LesStarport
@LesStarport 3 месяца назад
Depends on where you live on the planet. In the USA players that can play both PAL and NTSC are rather rare. But down here where I live (Australia) they’re a little more common, I found a working VCR with the ability to Play and record both PAL and NTSC for only $25 Aussie dollars (not to boast) - it’s now my primary VCR. They do turn up every now and then but not all the time.

All the broken shit at Goodwill in my area always has "Tested" stickers on it.
@saltyapostle44
@saltyapostle44 5 лет назад
@68Camaro RS/SS That doesn't make any sense. If I put "tested" on an ebay item I'm selling the buyers expect that to mean it works - and so does Ebay. I was looking at a sewing machine once in Goodwill. Had a tested sticker on it. Only after I tried to plug it in myself I discovered the power jack on the machine was missing and the cord just plugged into a blank hole. What exactly could they have tested? That taught me to never buy a damn thing from goodwill that I don't plug in and try out - despite the fact many don't have electrical outlets so you can do your own testing. Goodwill sucks.

Lol, thats an easy fix for the tv/vcr. There is a round plastic wheel under the tape tray mechanism..this wheel has electrical contacts on it and over time the electrical contact lose contact with the surface they are supposed to slide on so you have to pull off the plastic wheel, bend the contacts a bit and spray them with deoxit. I buy units that "dont work" like this for next to nothing and fix them in 5 minutes and make a good profit. Im surprised Pete doesnt know how to fix them.

I go to one off locally run consignment shops they do not come up under any type of a Google search. they usually give away food in the afternoon but also have a small consignment shop to sell stuff to make money they are not frequented by resellers so they don’t get picked over much. Also their prices are low much lower than Goodwill because most people that are shopping there are also receiving free food and do not have a lot of money. Last week I got a Stave puzzle for $0.25 Retail is $600 and I sold it for 250 on eBay

actually, the problem with the Sony may be the voltage... if made to work in Europe, American voltage would not make it work. Also, in any VCR, there is a part that floats on one screw and a spring. If that gets out of place, the machine will not work. I think for 5 bucks, you should have bought it and see if it can be made to work. There's enough margin to make it worth the trouble.

Yes- try cleaning the heads. If the person who owned it played a lot of rental tapes, it's more than likely very dirty- that's why it eats tapes. Try spraying the inside with a can compressed air then going in with a q-tip/alcohol.
@shkim0123
@shkim0123 5 лет назад
Yeah, if the VCR part of a combo unit isn't working properly I'll take a gamble and buy it anyway especially at yard sales. I can usually offer $2 and they'll take it. I've done it at thrifts too - the local ones have the combos right next to the TVs and cords and there are outlets in the electronics section, so I'll just talk to an employee and show them the VCR portion doesn't work and ask for a discount - a lot of times they'll give it to me for free since they'll have to take it off the floor anyway, or if it's an expensive unit I'll pay $2-3. I can open up a combo and clean the VCR heads and get them to work 80-90% of the time. Sometimes I can get ones where the door of either portion doesn't open or is loose for free or a couple bucks, and I can easily fix those. I only buy units worth good money when working, so if something is wrong that I can't fix, I'll scavenge the parts that do work or are very clean (like face plate, doors, the springs for the doors, the DVD side of the unit if the VCR is beyond repair. After some practice I started to get really fast, so my $/hr repairing these things or scavenging parts from them went up. Recently I've been shying away unless I see a unit that goes for a lot of money, is cheap, and already has the remote (or I have one) because I hate shipping them. Now I only pick up VCRs or combos if they're rare, the DVD portion is a recorder, it has HDMI output, or it's in original box with everything it came with. There's better ROI and $/hr out there, although I'll start picking them up if I'm having bad sales since I'm so used to testing, fixing, and swapping out parts for them.

*Keep q-tips away from the video heads on the spinning drum* Cotton fibers can get caught on a fragile head chip and cause damage. Use a piece of white printer paper damp with denatured alcohol and gently rub the video heads. There are detailed RU-vid videos on this. You can use cotton swabs to clean the guides and stationary heads inside the VCR. The problem with the VCR in his TV combo is likely due to stretched belt(s) or a failed idler tire. Replacing old rubber parts can be easy or hard, cheap or expensive. It all depends on the quality and value of the unit whether it is worth the trouble. TV/VCR combos are generally a pain in the ass to work on... The Sony multi-standard PAL/NTSC/SECAM VCR seen in the beginning also likely had an issue with belts failing, possibly worth repairing as these units are not as common and tend to command high prices.
