Devout Catholic here. There's quite literally a passage in the bible where Jesus condemns objectifying women, and when his disciples question "well what if she's scandalously dressed" Jesus literally tells them they can gouge their eyes out. Rape is quite literally one of the most heinous sins you can commit but God forbid a woman wears *shorts* Edit: I don't think I wanna go near the replies
Matthew 5:29 “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”
@CookiehsAndDreams "rape is sin" nope read Deuteronomy 22:28-29 it Shows that God is ok with rape if the woman is unmarried. Fun fact also Leviticus 25:45-47 and Peter 2:18 both condon slavery. where does the Bible show God doing something other than condoning slavery or rape? He never says that either is bad only that there's certain times you should do it.
I'm having trouble accepting that you can live a full life and become a cultural authority of your community while being THAT rotten. When people talk about "Rape culture" I usually can only roll my eyes... Well, I guess here it is 😐
Imagine a parent spends years trying to convince their child to come with them to church, then one day the child caves in and decides to give it a shot, and this is the sermon they go to.

Translated into simple speech: If you're lusting, you're sinning by you're committing adultery.
My father taught me long ago as a child that no matter what a woman is wearing she’s never “asking for it”. Rape is never okay. I’ve got a pastor older than this guy with more sense and wisdom. Bobby doesn’t need to be leading that church anymore…

well plenty times women are “asking for it” but that doesn’t mean you should give it to them, girls who dress like that aren’t even worth talking to, let alone anything more
Yeah... If they're wearing shorty shorts, it's totally their own fault if people are staring, because that's just attention-seeking, but there is literally never a justification for rape. Nobody, not even an outright streaker, would be "asking for it"; to be assaulted and forever traumatized.

@@dogelord144 probably getting stamped out by those after power and greed. A lot of the good pastors I know of have small churches, put any donations towards upkeep and bills for the church, and then you have the mega-churches and such bulldozing through and people going to those places that will defend their bigotry and fuel their hate and fear of anything other than 'their own' all in the name of God, while pastors who actually teach the word of God and have read the Bible shrink more and more. So many don't even follow the Commandments, and will go "Love Thy Neighbor" before turning around and being racist, sexist, homophobic, and more and then try to excuse their own hypocrisy and Godless actions and hate
@@dogelord144yeah, I have 4 churches near me where the pastors are actually great guys. As a Christian this is just very sad to see and puts such a bad image on how people twist the words said in the Bible to commit horrendous acts.
Kinda sucks, non Christians can’t really distinguish a legit pastor from one that’s just in it for the money unless they already know a bunch of the Bible beforehand
Being raised as a southern Pentecostal, that absolutely made my blood boil. "Man's a man" I have heard that growing up my whole life. I remember one time a preacher defended sex offenders in my town, and so many people walked out with their kids and babies in tow.
Restraint and Fighting Temptation are like the two fundamental things Christianity is always preaching for. Then these priests turn around and say sht like this. Really they'll say whatever suits them in the moment
The camera is facing directly at him you don’t know if anyone walked out and there was clearly backlash or else this clip wouldn’t have got out and gone viral
He was trying to backtrack and distract from what he just said almost immediately afterward. He kept his eyes down on the podium, interrupted himself a lot more, and made a "Well, cause you know back in MY day-" statement to garner agreement, then used God to deflect. I'm guessing he saw a few eyebrows raise and someone (probably his wife) made a face that let him know that he was sailing into shark infested water (hence, how this went viral). (Not saying that people in the audience didn't agree with him, mind you. Just that some of them have enough sense to know not to say their vile opinions outloud).
He hasn’t. A lot of old preachers say the same kind of stuff to try and point out how overtime not just women, but people overtime have degraded their ideals and values. It’s always unhinged, but he’s not a rapist
He sees God as a justification for his actions, and because in their minds "god is good" that means whatever they do is good and righteous. You'll find most "Christians" have never actually read the bible beyond a few passages.
"She is wearing shorts she is asking for it." Thats the same thing as stealing a nice car and saying "The door was unlocked so they were asking for it."
FINALLY someone is talking about people like this!! My old youth pastor believes all this too. And he's waaaay younger. The fact that he was very confident in saying that out loud in front of people is very telling and scary because he has probably gotten away with it before using religion and was never held accountable for it by anyone.
True. It's like he's speaking from experience and defending himself from something he did. That much hate for women is unnatural. Especially over...shorts. The most common warm weather wear for any gender. Lul wtf
The worst part is there’s a huge amount of guys that think like this they think if a woman dresses “sexually” (I’m using that loosely here just like they do). That it’s their fault if something happens it’s fucking despicable
@@EroticInferno Nah that's not how it works, but I can understand why you'd think that with so many lunatics and crazy people like this guy running around.
The phenomenon you're described in the beginning is called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, also known as frequency illusion. This occurs when something you've recently noticed, learned about, or thought about suddenly seems to appear with improbable frequency shortly afterwards. This isn't because these things are actually appearing more frequently, but rather because your awareness of them has increased, leading your brain to spot them more often.
Reminds me of those museums of the clothes of rape victims. Most of them weren't even wearing skimpy or provacative clothes. It was really sad and scary seeing everyday clothes, or clothes of children hanging on walls and knowing that's all it took for them to be raped. Nothing to do with what they were wearing, just an evil person with horrible intentions
Right, there were 2 times when I was almost abducted as a child, and I was literally wearing just regular kids' clothes because I was 7-years-old while a guy watched me in his car in front of our house while I played outside. The next time I was almost taken was while I was in my house as a 9-year-old playing in the living room when a guy tried to enter through a window. The only reason I survived was because both times my dad happened to be there to stop it. In fact, most of the times I've been targeted was during childhood minding my own business and just being a kid. Rapist don't need to see you in revealing clothes because they know what's underneath and have their own imaginations. They are on a mission and don't care what you happen to be wearing that day.
Yeah but too many people want to say "boys will be boys" it's all to often that people will say "well men have a higher s*x drive, so women should be more modest as to not tempt them". I've been in churches where clothing and some of the more traditional views were talked about but I'm glad my preacher usually takes time to speak against pedophiles, crime, corruption, being mentors to the youth and teaching them how to be our next generation of skilled craftsmen, tradesmen and leaders. There are definitely bigger fish out there, and I'm glad you catch them Charlie.
I have a hard time trusting anyone who worships the serial killer god of the Bible. Imagine worshipping someone who drowned millions of babies for his own ego.
My mom once told me “rape is a crime of power, not passion.” It’s not about satisfying lust because you got turned on seeing exposed skin. It’s about exerting power to control someone by violating them in one of the worst ways possible. It’s absolutely repulsive. Also I doubt this guy would ever be on a jury for a rape case because for one thing he admitted he’s biased. For another, he might be deemed not of sound mind.
It's not that black and white bud. People commit all kinds of crimes for all kinds of reasons. Some people murder out of revenge, some for money, others for fun like serial killers. Same thing goes for rape bud. Different people do it for different reasons. To say it's always about "power" is like saying all murders are done for money. That's not how it works at all.
As a guy I've never even been able to wrap my mind around that. A while back an ex girlfriend of mine and I were about be intimate and she was getting ahead of herself and was trying to just jump right into it and it was fucking painful... Like, holy shit. So, I think I would have to agree with that, that it doesn't have anything to do with anything sexual. That's so twisted.
As a native Tennessean this is saddening but utterly unsurprising. This is a pretty common mentality especially among the older folk. The only consolation is that they're on their way out and all we can do is try to unpoison the minds that they've been speaking to for all these years.

5:15 "What chapter of the bible was this in?" Nowhere, but this is probably the passage where that disgusting attitude comes from: Deuteronomy 22:28-29 "If a man meets a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her, and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." The man's only punishment for raping a single woman is to fork over 50 bucks. And then marry her. The woman must, by law, marry the man who assaulted her. It's insane. There are other passages in the bible that condemn rape, but for some reason, they left this in.
The actual translation for the Deuteronomy verses quoted is "if a man meets a virgin who isn't betrothed and seizes her for sex and they're discovered, he has to pay her dad a fine and has to marry her." That doesn't just cover rape. But regardless, that is not the full story. Read Exodus 22:16-17. "If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price. She will be his wife..." "...Except if her father refuses the marriage, the man must still pay the dowry." Ask yourself: what kind of dad would marry his daughter off to a rapist? Not a good one. If someone runs off with a man's daughter and they have consensual sex outside of marriage, maybe they're a good match for each other. But a rapist? No. The man's punishment for rape is that he has to pay a fine and then he can end up having no wife out of it because he's been a terrible human being. That's also the penalty if an Israelite took a woman out for a ride and then they pre-marital sex, except the latter was more likely to result in "oh well they are a good match for each other" and an actual wedding. Traditional Hebrew and Israelite marriages also involved asking the woman's consent for marriage. This is referenced with Rebecca here: Genesis 24:57-59 There are no Bible verses condoning rape. Nowhere in the Bible does God say "this is good, do it". Rape is also unloving and evil, it is violent and a clear sign of a lack of empathy and self control, both being things the Bible says humans need to have. That is a message that most modern Christians are entirely lacking. The Bible has actual context to it.
@@godsdj7316thanks for putting an explanation down. Sadly lots of people (like in the other comment in this video) really like to post misinformation and out of context biblical citation.
@@godsdj7316 Having the full context makes it worse, not better. Deuteronomy 22 equates unmarried consensual sex with rape (in terms of recompense to be paid). The Hebrew word for "seize" can apply to either one. Doesn't matter which. No focus is given to the woman's consent or wellbeing; only whether or not she "belongs" to a man when you touch her. Is she taken? You'll be stoned to death. Is she single? Pay a fine. Was it assault? Whatever, same difference, just pay the fine. Exodus 22 does the same. That chapter details how to repay a man after _losing his ox in 4 separate ways_ but couldn't be bothered to draw a legal distinction between unmarried consensual sex and rape. The punishment doesn't increase to reflect the crime, and marriage is still mandated. But Exodus adds the clause where the father can veto the marriage. Problem solved, right? ...Not really. Religious dogma (and the fear of a deity's wrath) can drive people to do some pretty heinous things to their children. e.g. The Binding of Isaac (Genesis 22), The Sacrifice of Jepthah's Daughter (Judges 11), and several commands to beat your kids (Proverbs 13:24 and 22:15). If physical abuse and ritualistic child sacrifice can be deemed "virtuous", marrying your daughter off to her sexual abuser may have its defenders. More importantly though, consider the social landscape that the father is in. His daughter no longer being a virgin is considered a _massive_ problem. The abuser isn't being fined for rape; _it's for taking her virginity._ It's for "violating" her, and the effect that will have on her life. What other man will want to marry her now that she's been "soiled"? Who will provide for her when her father grows old? Surely, the father would want to see his daughter married so she'll be taken care of after he passes. Suddenly, marrying his daughter off to her rapist starts to sound like the only option. Rebekah didn't _have_ that problem. She was a virgin. It says so in Genesis 24:15-16 (a few paragraphs before the verses you posted without that context). Genesis celebrates her consent to marry Isaac _only_ because her freedom of choice hadn't yet been taken from her by the stripping of her virginity. But even setting ALL of that aside, are there _really_ "no bible verses condoning rape"? ...I'm afraid not. Numbers 31:17-18. *"Kill all the boys and all the women who have had sex with a man. Only the young virgins may live; keep them for yourselves."* This is the command Moses gives to the Israelites after conquering Midian. I don't imagine a young Midianite girl who's entire family had just been slaughtered - likely, _right_ in front of her - would be feeling very keen to marry one of the men responsible. But the girls' consent isn't of Moses' concern, _and he speaks directly for God._ (Exodus 4:11-12: "The Lord said to him, "Who made man's mouth?... Is it not I? Now go! I will be with you when you speak. I will give you the words to say."") *God not only condones, but outright commands, mass war rape.* And this is after he exploits the _painfully obvious loophole_ in Exodus by making sure all the virgins' fathers are slaughtered before they have a chance to object to the marriages. There really is no further context to salvage that. Justifying violence like this isn't a "modern Christian" thing. This rot has been here since before the church was founded. As I said, there _are_ passages in the bible condemning immoral actions. But there are also verses actively _condoning_ them, and to say otherwise is either ignorant or dishonest. In this case, the Midianite women were to be punished for tempting Israelite men... so they were all slaughtered; except for the virgins, who were counted among the livestock, and kept as breeding slaves for their oppressors. ...That's a _bit_ of an overreaction. But then again, *_maybe they were wearing shorts._*
Fun fact - once in the byzantine empire one of the varangian guard had got themselves far too drunk and had backed one of the servant girls into a corner From what sources say she killed him and instead of being taken away for assaulting one of the emperors guard she was given all his properties and all his earnings while the man in question was dishonourably removed from within the guards official ranks and he was buried in an unmarked grave.
@@rowannnnnnnnn this information is a story from the Skylitzes Chronicle: In 1038 the Varangian were wintering in the Thracesian theme when one of them tried to rape a countrywoman; in the struggle she managed to take his sword, and killed him. But instead of taking revenge, his comrades praised her and rewarded her with his possessions; they then exposed his body without burial as if he had committed suicide (an act of cowardice, and the highest of insults)
@@maxbuckley9762 I am pretty sure she wasn’t wearing shorts And this is the issue You cannot compare a fully clothed woman who doesn’t engage with men who doesn’t go out except when it is necessary to a hookup girl wearing almost nothing coming from a nightclub at 3am The first woman was raped and the man only should be punished the second was normal adultery and both should be punished
Oh there’s no implication about it, he’s saying, quite literally, that this is a statement he has made in the past, and probably multiple times. What he’s implying is that he is sympathetic to rapists who were forced to satisfy their uncontrollable sexual urges because a woman wore shorts once. Like Charlie noted, only a rapist could possibly be a rapist sympathizer.
My family stopped going to the church that they grew up in because the new pastor starting saying stuff about how women shouldn’t be teachers and other weird shit
@@Meduwusa There’s nothing wrong with religion inherently. Humans rely on hope to keep going, and to a lot of people, that hope comes from their faith. It’s when they try to push it on others is when it becomes an issue
0:40 that type of déjà vu is always trippy when it happens, its the same thing with hearing a non mainstream song playing in 2 different places on the same day.

Even Christians should agree that these guys are just downright insane
What bothers me way more than this man's words are the complete lack of words from the audience. Every single person in that room should be deeply ashamed for not saying a single word to this monster
What do you want them to say? "Hey pastor I disagree" " Well I don't care it's gods will" This is exactly what would've happened it's better they let him expose himself with no way put of it And your really saying their worst than this rapist because they didn't give him a way out? Jesus did you even think when you commented your honestly the sadest part of all of this. You see a rapist and you come to the conclusion the audience (who did nothing wrong) should be canceled and are all worse than rapists
As a Christian, I'm ALL for pointing out the hypocrisy. How does a man of God sleep at night, blaming rape victims for getting raped? How God hasn't called in the horsemen out of frustration with the people claiming to be His mouthpiece yet is beyond my comprehension.
I've always interpreted the third commandment "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain" (essentially) to mean "Don't do bad things and use God as an excuse." Dudes like this who justify rape because "God made men that way" or get stupid rich off of offerings and exploited power because "God blessed them with wealth" have a special circle in hell.
There's a weird social pressure in church to stay silent even if the sermon is offensive and blasphemous. It's a strange set up that allows for a lot of bs and abuse by church leaders. If my childhood church allowed the congregation to actively challenge the pastor, I might still have some faith left.
@@Falloutplayer99 we shouldn't i agree bt then what would u say to ops questions as in why people didn't stand up against him? Some probably in fear or respect towards the church didn't bt nt all could be in such a state, which makes other wander whether they actually agreed to it or atleast a considerable amount did.
I find the notion itself to be insulting. As if we are incapable of critical thinking, restraint or empathy. We just follow our "man instincts" and dont care who we hurt along the way. Its sickening
4:40 The thing I don't understand is the complete and utter lack of empathy people like this have. How difficult is it to think "What if this were my daughter? Would I let him walk? Would I want someone else to let this guy walk?" The answer is no. That simple. How is that so hard for people like this?
This is actually a good moral dilemma or question. Especially if the victim purposely put themselves in situations where they might be more likely to be murdered.
@@jazzabighits4473 I'm not sure how that hypothetical compares to this sermon, unless you imply women are asking to be assaulted if they wear certain clothes.
@@jazzabighits4473 that could be seen as assisted su*cide, which is still considered a crime. Morally tho, it depends on how they were killed and whether they killed cuz the person actually asked for it.
Nah, women aren’t wearing shorts because they’re asking for anything or feeling any kinda lustful way. They’re not wanting rape. I see the thought process but this analogy falls flat mate. This implies they’re still “ asking for it. “
