A few things: 1. The feet aren't properly transformed in planet mode. They can fill in that gap. 2. You have to flip down his skirt panel to open his stomach without popping the panel off. 3. The shoulders rotate so they can accommodate different Minions since they don't always have their ports in the same place. 4. There are panels that open on his shins for more Minicon storage.

@@bobothetransdimensionalhob2659 I have thought about the idea of making your own board game/card game that had well designed rules and you just takes figures and cards from random properties that don’t belong with each other and you just assign classes to them. Like one guy has an army filled with Thundercats and the other has Power Rangers, or just miscellaneous stuff that don’t belong together working as an army.
1:42 He's not fully transformed, you can actually push the feet forward and those two holes on the feet actually plug into the maw Edit: Doing that also lets you stand him a bit more upright in planet mode since the feet don't block as much so he can be at an angle instead of flat
@@williamfinch2777 I had trouble getting mine to peg in, too then I realised I hadn't been pushing the legs back as far as they should go. I needed to go one more click's worth on the ratchet.
Not video related: I found a fix for Ss86 Ironhide’s roof. Apparently if you don’t rotate the hands but just flip them in straight like normal, the roof holds together better. I think the problem is that since the middle finger sticks out a little, it rubs up against the legs hence it puts pressure on the roof and causes it to split.
Given that he was an energon repaint... I suspect he may be suffering from mold degradation. Funny story regarding the normal version though, I've found no less than THREE of him at Savers over the last year, bought 2 (first one was missing hand, second was overall in worse condition but had hand, third I passed on)
The energon repaint actually has overall better QC than armada, notably armada had an issue with the knee ratchet the energon copy fixed. the figure got reissued again in a g1 movie deco in 2010 and again the same deco in 2016. the 2016 G1 movie deco has severe mold degradation but the ones before it are perfectly fine, at least my copies are that is. I own the energon and 2010 25th movie anniversary unicrons. My armada one broke and suffered from the aformentioned knee problem.
I have the _Armada_ orange version, and it's pretty great! I like leaving the planet kibble on the back and flaring it into a cape (like they appeared in the _Armada_ cartoon), and that allows the ring-wings to rest on parts of the cape to keep them in a position I like well enough. Also mine doesn't have really weak ankles, sorry yours does.
I have Armada Unicron, this Black Energon version, and the G1 Headed Amazon Anniversary version, and they're all great! The Haslab Unicron was well out of my budget, but I'm very happy with my trio. 😉✌️
Now this brings me back! Had one of this or some version of it when I was a kid. The ankle and wrist problem is what I had too so I'm guessing it was pretty common. Not as bad as the 2 years Cybertron Optimus' head was stuck inside his chest.
I remember when I was really really young. I saw a Unicron in a store with the original deco and I think it was only around $50. I don't know if it was on clearance or somethin but $50 for something that big today would be a steal.
Had to come back here to say that I found a mint in package one of these for 45 bucks today and had to grab it because of your review! Stoked to add it to my collection
I adore this mold. Grabbed the Takara 2010 reissue and I think it’s really fun. I could see panels falling off being a ruining experience, but thankfully stays good on mine and I love the transformation :)
I remember when my mom got me Armada Unicron for christmas alongside the later version of voyager Armada Optimus Prime. I wanted to get the Energon Unicron and even Cybertron Primus. I ultimate goal is to get all iterations of Unicron and get Cybertron Primus and then I can die happy.
I got one of these mint in box when I was 12 and its been the grail of my collection ever since, I have kept it complete and in good condition which was pretty hard for me to do as a kid, I am getting ready to "replace" it with 01 Studio Overmind but I say replace in quotations as I doubt il ever let go of this figure even all these years later, still a great, study figure. On a side note this is the first That Toy Guy video I ever watched and I have been subscribed ever since.
Did you know of the storage compartments in his shins? I bought the original Armada version and as I was fooling with it I found 2 hidden Minicons the seller must've forgotten about. Added Dune Runner and Firebot to my collection. 🙂
I bought an Armada lot from someone a few years ago for a very steal deal. It was almost a complete collection and this Unicron was in it. I sold everything except this one. There was just something about this figure which can really stand out when played and displayed, I'm so glad I kept this. I have mine displayed on a shelf surrounded by a Quintesson Judge, some Sharkticons and Allicons 😘
I used to have Energon Unicron about 12 years ago but I sold him since I was satisfied with my Armada Unicron, however I did regret selling him months later. Now I found him again complete with instructions and I got him for just $88 along with a bunch of minicons and a complete Armada Skywarp I got for $26 extra, so a total of $114. I do not complain.😊
that gap wouldnt be there if you transformed it right. the ankles are supposed to remain straight while you fold the feet down- there are two little pegs on the end of the shell bits right above it peg into holes on those.
I wonder how common that ankle issue is, my black Unicron has been in storage for a couple years, but the ankles held up well up until then at least. One of the knee ratchets gave out on him though sadly.
I would be careful with his knees, I’ve had two copies of the original deco from armada and his left knee ratchet on both copies have broken over time. Even then though, I still recommend 100%
You mis-transformed it in planet mode, that "gap" you where talking about, those silver pins are meant to be pushed up and into the planet. There are 2 small pins and to ports on the black parts of the fold up shins that lock into it, that may be why you are having trouble pinning the wings in to. The feet are sticking out too far while it's mis-transformed like that.
I like this desgin as it looks like unicron was in hiding after his defeat and went in hiding and as he healed he began to decay and rusted heavily and the space dust eroded and chipped his colorsceme away severely Don't worry the safety on! Then... 4:34
My favorite Unicron colorscheme. I lucked out and ordered him at a very reasonable (under retail) price at BBTS very long ago when this colorscheme was super-rare. He remains my favorite Unicron until I can get my hands on the Haslab. Which is Never.
I got one of this curtain brackets that are an L shape with a slider ring for the curtain. If you remove the ring and just have the L bracket part left it's slides in perfectly behind him in planet mode to mount him on the wall.
I got the original Armada paint job, mine was used and he has problems with the connector for the planetary ring, of course, when I got him, he was lacking most of his missiles, but I was able to get a hold of some and I got a single spare missile, thou these days, he off in storage while the later verison with the G1 inspired paint job and retooled head is out on display and he is impressive to look at, I opted not to get the Haslab verison because I deemed it, to big for my tastes, not to say that I haven't gotten a few titan class sized bots but Haslab Unicron, to big, thou I would kind of love it if they at some point do a scaled down verison in the titan class size and price point
Yo! I was planning on the same thing, I have Armada Unicron, Cybertron Primus, Encore Micron Unicron and just got my hands on the Takara Tomy Unicron. I use the first three to recreate the scene in Armada when Unicron is facing a pure energy Unicron that the minicons made to defend Cybertron. I want to get the Takara Tomy Primus to clash with the TT Unicron and have the Energon Unicron against the TLK Primus.
I almost wonder if perhaps skewing the lower legs to the sides with the below the knee twist would make it more stable in poses, cuz having both loose joints both in the same direction could make it easier for him to fall backwards/forwards. I had the Armada release as a kid and I never had an issue with it for the decade I had it, so maybe it’s only an issue with this version? Someone should check the Universe 2.0 reissue… Also, not sure if you know this, but the fronts of his shins also open up to put stuff in. :3c I noticed several people who reviewed this missed it so I figured I’d mention it.
I have the OG Armada Unicron and the "Amazon" one. Both are fantastic but that black one... Sexy as hell! I do want it. As for the perfect stand, look for the Throne of Chaos. It's just perfect... but discontinued since years and rare as fuk. Glad I bought it at the time!
Found this one at a Walmart literally for $20 when it came out which was insane as I'm sure the original Armada one was somewhere between 80-100 Canadian when it came out. No ankle issues with mine, but the knee ratchet on both I think right sides gave way, the plastic piece inside snapping in half which makes for very lose knees unfortunately. As funny as middle finger poses can be I always pose him rocking out with devil horns. Gotta love full finger articulation.
Same! Except I got an orange one for $20 at Fred Meyer and Walmart let me do a return/exchange and got this black one, which at the time was full price.
I can tell you, it’s not age; it’s just a problem with all of the Unicrons. I have the Armada one and all those issue you have were present with mine when I got it brand new in the early 2000s.
This version is from 2004, from the energon toyline , the original was from armada 2003, universe 2.0 have a reissue from armada on 2009 then 2010 remold
I have the orange energon unicron (I think the 25th anniversary version) and I am willing to pay scalpers for Haslab unicron… I just straight up can’t afford it 😪
i hate to say it, and im sure others have also pointed this out, but that big gap on the front is due to a mistransformation. there are actually a few small pegs on the bottom of the planet mouth that peg into some small holes on the bottom of the feet
Armada Unicron is better than Haslab Unicron. I said it and I'm not taking it back. (Also you can fix the loose ankles by literally just using a screwdriver on the ankles. It's that easy, I did it for mine and it has never had this problem again)
So this Unicron's got God Gundam's Godfinger from G Gundam, eh? 😏😏😏 Would be nice if those lights were better/brighter, because they're pretty lame as is. I dunno. I'd personally have to hunt down that green Unicron Takara did.
