Really enjoyed this. Loved the (very relatable) background stories about being obsessed with little details in uniforms and logos and no one else getting it. My friends think I'm nuts but it always makes me feel a little better to know there's others out there who think like me. Looking forward to future episodes.

Haha I feel this exact way. My friends think mono black is a great look and whenever I say I don’t like it that much they look at me crazy.

I started listening on apple podcasts, then switched over when you mentioned there was video on here, came for the podcast, stayed for that Thrashers pennant! Really enjoying this, can’t wait for more (especially any hockey content). Good luck with it!

Expos fandom really helps if you're a bit older - my sports awakening happened in the late 70s, and trust me, the Expos were a much bigger (national) deal in the early 80s (pre-BlueJays, obvs). I grew up in the prairies (Saskatchewan), and in 1981 when the Expos qualified for the playoffs (Google '1981 MLB season' for those weird details), there was serious excitement. Our Grade 7(?) French class was pre-empted for the famous Blue Monday game against the Dodgers :( I'll never forget the sight of our teacher Mr. Hamonic wheeling in the AV cart so we could watch the game in its entirety (this only happened one other time - the first Space Shuttle launch, also in '81)...

Loved it! I've been reading Uni-Watch and Sportslogos since they both began and have enjoyed going to the sites for my daily news about logos and uniforms. 'I get it' and I'm so glad more people are becoming fans of these two guys and their respective sites. Can't wait for the next one!

Even though Chris’s background is more sporty, don’t think we don’t see the Brannock Device behind Paul

Thanks to both of you for doing this. I too, have always loved uniforms & logos. Before the start of every sports season I always wondered which teams were going to have new ones. Now, because of you & Paul, I know well ahead of time!

Digging the new podcast guys...but I think Unified needs a theme song of some sort. Suggestions anyone?

Chris, can you somehow convince Paul that purple is an acceptable colour for sports uniforms? When used properly it looks great. Examples - Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Ravens, vintage LA Kings, Arizona Coyotes, and one of my personal favourite uniforms of all time, the WLAF and NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy.

Really happy to have seen that this was released, it made me super happy to hear about other people with the same sort of relationship with uniforms and logos.

Special guests could be designers of certain logos (new and old) - maybe once a week?

Promising podcast, uni heavyweights unite! Sorry I cannot help myself, but technically the OHL Marlboros of 1989 wouldn't have had any affiliation with the NHL Maple Leafs at the time. Prior incarnations yes, and of course the AHL Marlies of today do. No offence Chris, just an 'obsessive' note in the spirit of the podcast - distinguishing hockey's major junior leagues from minor leagues was something I was frequently/nerdily doing on the playground as a kid!

I thought Ballard owned the Marlboros!
@michaellogue2615
@michaellogue2615 3 года назад
@@SportsLogos That's a good point, although the Marlboros junior team's affiliation with the NHL Leafs ended in 1967, they did continue to have the same owner (Maple Leaf Gardens Ltd, aka Ballard) up to 1988. The Leafs retained ownership of the Marlboros name, and as you noted the uniform were identical at the time except for the crown / wordmark swap inside the logo!

About the relationship between the Expos and Québec, they were Popular when they started and the beginning of the 80's. At the end of the era, the team wasn't good and the onwer wasn't interest to keep the team at Montreal. And the fact that hockey, more the Montreal Canadiens, is very popular in the province. The Montreal Alouettes (Canadian football) and Le Club de Foot Montréal (aka the Montreal Impact from the MLS) have dôme difficulty to have the same attention from the population and the media.

You're absolutely right Patrice, and when I re-watched this for the first time I thought to myself "but you forgot about their earlier days!" when that bit came up. Though I didn't say so, I was specifically referring to the time period when I was following baseball, from the early '90s right up until their end.
