The WORST Umpire In Baseball Just Retired 

I started watching MLB last season. I waited for a team to pick me. I happened to watch Liam Hendriks first game back for the WS. When he walked on I got out of my chair, I found my team(Aussie). Lucky me.

baseball news and rules and the like (not highlight compilation) makers need to band together. closecallsports is having the same issue. I'll donate to a fund to hire a lawyer to write some letters and such to bring attention to MLB.

Does anyone find it funny they’re all of the sudden striking RU-vid channels, when this year, a majority of content is talking about how bad umpires have been? And now the perceived worst one just retired out of nowhere? Something smells of rotten salmon.

Probably not completely up to him I’m betting. With all the bad calls and backlash from all teams and the public, MLB probably had a play in this and maybe he will be some type of sum or compensation + retirement pay.

I think the upcoming election had a lot to do with him retiring mid-season. Having a poster boy for the failure of DEI is a bad look for Biden and Democrats.

I mean he was never consistently terrible. He's below average at worst, there have always been double digit numbers of umpires worse than him virtually every season. If you think he was bad enough to get fired, they should throw out the bottom 40% every season by that standard.

Unions are important for job security. I think we have to look at this more than just a few bad apples

@@evanmarlowe4722 While that is true, Baseball doesn't exist recently put out a video saying "Angel isn't as bad you think," showing that there are like 15 active umps with worse stats than Angel.

@@evanmarlowe4722 it's not just about accuracy. It's also about egos, trying to be the centre of attention, screwing up and having absolutely zero consequences. Just look at the Boone ejection a few weeks ago or when the ump made the manager pick someone to get thrown out. That is unacceptable.

Someone doesn’t know unions are independent contractors and each one is completely different. Also easy. Angel Hernandez isn’t a liability to the MLB the same way a woman beating rapist is. No more, get Aroldis and all other disgusting filth out of this respectful game.

He statistically did get significantly better year over year, as basically all umpires have, was never in the top 10 worst umps of any year

He did get better. He was also never exceptionally bad at any point in his career.

CB or CJ Buckner. Believe me, he's almost as bad as Angel is- was.

His game calling combined with his terrible ego and treatment of players/lack of accountability is what made him the worst. It was everything not just one thing

@@iTalkStudios Fair. I still don’t think he’d be public enemy #1 without the attention he garnered from the lawsuit. He had become a distraction to the game, absolutely, but there are umpires who are quantifiably worse for the sport based on their impact to individual contests. I do think it’s good that he’s gone due to the bad PR he brings, but for a sport whose fans tend to be intensely data driven to call out one guy for a bad attitude seems weird. Even in ejection rates, which seems like it would be a good measure for unwillingness to deal with criticism, he’s pretty middle of the pack.
