I enlisted on Friday 09112015, I ship for boot on 04182016. Both of my parents are marines, my grandfather, and his brother. Time to earn the title, and carry on the tradition. Can't wait, every ounce of pain will be worth it. Semperfi.

+Vera official Best of luck to you. I earned the title forty-five years ago at the age of 17 and I am still proud to this day to be a Marine. Did you realize yesterday (10 November 2105) was the 240th birthday of the Marines? This is the ONLY day I celebrate as my birthday. Once I earned the title I discarded my biological birthday. Never, ever give up and you will earn the title also!I am a teacher now (mathematics) and my students love hearing about my experiences as a Marine. However, I don't talk to them about my two tours in Southeast Asia. But I do talk them about pride and serving my country and defending our way of life. Semper Fi.

Marines are the only one where you have to EARN the title. In Air Force basic, you're addressed as airman. In Army basic, you're addressed as soldier. In Navy and Coast Guard basic, you're addressed as seaman. In Marine basic, you're addressed as recruit and you are addressed as recruit until you receive your eagle, globe, and anchor at graduation.
@Cid100000
@Cid100000 10 лет назад
They used to be called Airman at Air Force BMT. That was way back in the 80's and 90's. I graduated BMT January and they called us Trainee's until the day of graduation.
@SulfurousJesus
@SulfurousJesus 10 лет назад
I was never called a soldier in basic. My platoon guide refered to some of us as Soldiers and he got put back in place. We were recruits too. (Army)
@gtarules1
@gtarules1 10 лет назад
Matthew Brunette - WRONG! You're addressed as "warrior", "private" (Yes, even if you were a Specialist (E-4)) or "boot" in BCT for the Army, at least we were when I went through. Never were we called soldiers until we graduated.
@shockofhyperbole
@shockofhyperbole 10 лет назад
The only times at RTC I was ever called sailor or shipmate were the day after battle stations and the day of pass in review. Every other day I was "guy" or "recruit".

It's a mistake to join the Marines, or the military, period until you do your own research. Ask yourself if you really want to serve at all, and why. Then, check out every branch and make a choice. I'm glad that I went into the Corps.

Holy shit, the letter the one marine was reading in 4:37 came from me. I was writing to some marine in Iraq who i didn't know as a school thing and i told him that it must be hard being there and wished him well. I believe it was mine because i wrote with a pen in cursive formatting, and i drew a U.S. flag with some big soldier wearing a helmet and me (the small guy) right next to him. I looked at that a few times and wondered if that was my letter, and it looked exactly like what i wrote back when I wrote it.

Highly unlikely, its pretty much undoubtedly a prop the director of the commercial had someone make. I dont think they would legally be allowed to show your letter without contacting you first and having you sign contracts and consent forms as well as paying you.

Michael Estrada And I think you and whoever was ignorant enough to blindly vote your comment up should take your own advice (no offense). You can start by actually re-reading what I said and actually watching: { *Semper Bye: U.S. Army First-to-Fight--NOT the usmc* }. You LITERALLY have to type it in in order to see the video (complete with links). The rumor that the usmc is first to fight is just treasonous anti-Army propaganda. To find out why the usmc puts out treasonous anti-Army propaganda, please LITERALLY search: { *Never Faithful; the Rivalry Between Our Army and marines* }. Thank you.

@Ncistonydude 10 лет назад
I'm sorry but I never thought I'd do this (trust me I love the Marines more than any other service branch in the US Armed Forces but here is where I draw the line trust me when I mean they're my favorite) but I believe in Afghanistan aside from Delta, Army SF, SOARs and CIA the 10th Mountain was first conventional boots on the ground in Afghanistan. Marines came months later when the Army and Air Force setup bases there. Bougainville Aussies were already on ground Marines came months later after Guadalcanal. Iwo Jima sadly USMC wasn't really the first to fight they were first boots on ground but USAAF and USN were first to fight in that battle. Also in the Philippine Campaign USAAF and the Army were first to fight there as well. You were first in the fight in many battles but not all of em'. As much as I love you leathernecks there are times where you have to admit you are wrong...
@AGNOSTIC_incomprehensibleXIV
@AGNOSTIC_incomprehensibleXIV 10 лет назад
Michael Estrada Links to who? The usmc??? The usmc lies. President Truman knew this. It's why he compared the usmc's propaganda machine to Stalin's. The things I reference on the other hand have neutral links or can be verified via neutral sources. Why not just at least watch the video and then point to where I'm wrong? Are you afraid?

FallenApex Keep my country safe - and this is the way? You are sorely mistaken. War does not keep your country safe. Wars and the people who fight them make our country less safe and kill thousands of people. The only benefit ot having a military is to defend having a country at all. Yet the country is not more safe - as they say there is a blood cost with freedomnd the borders of a nation. If you wanted to keep our country safe - you would be in the room when our politicians make the decision to either go to war with a country or work with a country in peace. If you want to make our country more safe - Find a way to get in the room where people make the decisions to kill and change their minds.
@gkornegay
@gkornegay 10 лет назад
gammer79 So in your mind killing people makes our country safe? Killing american soldiers, women, children, and other people of other countries makes our american soldiers safe? Great logical debate you must be having in your mind. So what is your math? For every dead American marine you save 20 American Bankers? 200 American Soccermoms? So I guess when Russia or another country responds with a NuclearBomb it will only target that one marine then right? Yep - Wow - you make so much sense

Way to cut the ending off. Lol. I want to join the Marines. Back when I was around 7 years old, I wanted to join the military. I didn't know why though, nor did I know how I wanted to join. When I turned 13. I began to learn much, much more about the branches through gaming, believe it or not. Yes, I admit, Call of Duty was one major influence for me wanting to join. But as I grew older I learned to differentiate game from reality. Learned that Call of Duty over dramatized and over exaggerated, even glorified bloody and horrible wars. I had developed the ability to tell right from wrong through gaming. I wanted to fight for those who could not protect themselves after the age of 13... because I myself was bullied to near suicide. It felt horrible to go to school every day and not have the guts to fight back or, like myself, be trained not to in any way. I began to develop neutral feelings, and gained the ability to judge not through my own eyes, but through someone else's. The ability to see the world through my friend's eyes... my family's eyes. Even my enemy's eyes, or people I had never seen or known. This key ability gave me the inspiration to learn the laws and start to study the systems our nation was founded on... hell I'm reading this and it kind of makes me feel pride and in a sense brings tears to my eyes. I started off as some spoiled brat at 7 years old... who wanted to join the military because I liked war and guns. Then I became a competitive gamer at 13... and learned the branches... learned to truly feel for those who suffered. Learned to feel what others felt by simply closing my eyes and wearing their shoes for a split second. Learned the laws of the land and developed neutral judgement... to better solve things without resorting to violence or even touching the idea of a weapon. And now... after all that stemming from some spoiled kid, I grew up to want to fight for a nation that not only let me be free to learn these things, for a nation that beat me to nothing until I had forced myself to get up and never quit no matter how close I come to failure, for a nation that openly encourages the dreams of everyone and their mother. I want to join the Marines because I don't want to fight for myself. I don't want to fight just to keep people safe. I don't want to just fight to prove to my family that I can stand above failure, but because I want to fight for what this nation was founded on. Not just some stupid cliche thing like "I want to fight to keep my friends safe", granted that is true, but I want to fight to keep the amendments safe, and the constitution, to keep the Bill of Rights from being erased. I want to fight to keep wars from erupting. To use the weapons of today, as a last resort to stop mass destruction by the weapons of tomorrow. I want to be the ambassador that every Marine is trained to be, whether it be overseas, or in our community. Some say gamers grow up thinking war is glorified and awesome. I was fortunate enough to learn ahead of time that war is cold, brutal, and unforgiving. No matter who wins, someone somewhere always suffers and pays the price he or she is never supposed to pay. That knowledge is enough to fuel a fire that only recycles this entire comment. An endless, constant reminder of what I was. What I became, and what I *AM* destined to be: A U.S. Marine. It's time I gave back everything I have been given in life. To receive is a good feeling... to return is a feeling unparalleled when met with just a smile and a thank you.

DCM88 I am aware. I noticed that even some of the things on ArmA are dumbed down a bit and unrealistic. I guess the only way to truly experience it is to do it and not have any 'experience' from games. Although... I will admit... I did learn quite a few things from CoD like the geneva convention and what not, and ArmA, like map grids and coordinates and how they work.

Dude sorry to burst your bubble just being a marine isent going to accomplish all you just said and even the idea of bringing up a video saying you learn schematics and the Geneva convention? ha what? typically people who say they want to be a marine or solider don't talk about it or glorify it on the Internet they just do it I myself have many friends in the armed forces and not one say stuff like that? sorry bud but games or even movies don't portray the true horror of war

American Anarchist I'm glad you learned morality, however, nothing in the military is like a game. I served in the Marines for 14 years from 2001 to 2015 before I was medically retired. Realize that if and that is a big "if" you go to combat, you might be taking the lives of real people. You may also lose brothers and sisters. The people you fight against, although they are the enemy are brothers, husbands, sons, daughters. Some of the people are just kids. When you have urban combat, you may have just killed a son and then when you go house to house or the family sees you take the life of their loved one, you have to deal with that. It isn't pretty and it hurts bad. It stays in the back of your mind like a parasite that never goes away. You have to look that mother in the eye and tell her that you are sorry you just took their sons life because he ways firing at your humvee and the 50 cal just made his head into a canoe. Combat is dirty nasty and urban combat is up close and very personal. Make sure this is what you want to do with your life, talk to a recruiter and be prepared to be trained to take a life. Anyway, I bought a home when I was stationed in Beaufort S.C., which is where Parris Island is and if you have any questions feel free to message me and I will help you in anyway possible to get you ready. Just remember boot camp isn't a game to these DIs. They know that someone in their platoon may become a basically trained Marine in boot camp, go off to MCT or SOI, hit the fleet, get a 48 hour stand by notice and go off to combat and may never return. All the Marines that have dies protecting this great nation was trained by a DI and they have to live with the fact that it is going to happen. They care about each and everyone of the recruits that want to be there, because they are responsible for your life and responsible for how you are trained and they do not take it lightly. Again feel free to message me if you need any questions answered. Good luck and I hope you decide to join and become part of our special brotherhood.

For a while I have been thinking about joining the Marines to be put to the limit to acquire discipline to create brothers To serve my country... I have been pampered like a spoiled brat Sure I may be an eagle scout sure I have many community service hours But I want to do more for my country to truly know what it means to wear that uniform to know what that salute holds within... Then I looked up the policies regarding ADHD and Asthma. Now I know how Ephialtes from 300 feels. All this love for my country... and no way for me to show it.

Only 8 weeks for basic because of all the diff types of mos and shear number enlisting. For infantrymen or even rangers the training continues after basic. The army isn't wasting money teaching thousands of cooks and mechanics 5 extra weeks of weapons training and combative training they just going to teach everyone the basics then depending on their mos they will receive more later. Rangers get a lot more than a reg marine. Infantrymen get about the same amount but I will agree compared to a marine a infantryman will be less disciplined. Your 8 weeks to 13 arguement really doesn't work because its just the army being smart with its money.

So If you have any questions or comments and would like to talk about t I can tell you everything I know and all the advice I can give to someone in your shoes because when I was 19 i felt like something was missing in my life, so I Joined and never looked back! and the marines got bailed out by Rangers in the 2nd battle of Falluja...the 2nd highest casualty rating since the battle for the city of Hue, South Vietnam. Marines at times only served a 4 month rotation in to the battle fields of Afghanistan, vice 15, then 12, then 9 month rotations as the US Army. The point is, its one freaking team...when you need help you look to your left and right lines and get it done and if you think you've got heart for either, there is a member of the cadre that will test that heart...every second. Marine forces are traditionally "expeditionary"..that means smaller for mobility..its their mantra...secure for larger forces...but in each war, they were used as required for durations....so its modified mission for many reasons. The Army also has Rapid Deployment, the 18th Airborne Corp and Rangers can be anywhere in the world in 18hours from the call...thats their mission too, not just for sand-people...but all reasons and options....they both serve the rapid deployment features. No one has the advantage...they share dual or Joint roles...thats partnership.

I'm looking into joining the marines but my parents disagree but I want this, I want to become apart of something and join something bigger then myself and live to defend my country.

This video is very motivating, I wanted to be a marine for so long. Then I noticed there's a training harder than the marines. I felt like I needed that, I have 2 years. I'm a sophomore, ready to go to bud/s. Marines have tons of honor. I just felt I needed something more.

War will kill us all. We must learn how to live WITH each other. Instead of fighting to show who's superior than another.

I watch this every morning to get motivated and every single time I start crying less than 30 seconds in. I have so much respect for them it's unbelievable. It's like I'm watching my future on video and it's so perfect ❤😍😁😁😁. Me becoming a marine is going to be the hardest thing to experience in my lifetime but it will be the most rewarding experience once I make it into bootcamp and I'll come out a United States Marine. I will protect you all in a couple years with all that I have to give . Thank you for making this video. Thank you to all who have served and all who will continue to serve in the future . The few. The proud. The Marines.❤💪🇺🇸 Which direction are you running?.....

I don't like seeing people argue which branch is better than the other or which one takes "the guts." I think if you serve in the military, regardless of which branch, you deserve the up most respect. I can't wait to serve in the military. I want to serve in the army and then later become a marine. The military life is what I want and I can't wait for it!

I spent a year and a half in training and schools before going to my unit. No walk in the park but best thing I ever did. Somebody has to do it, might as well be you! Do you have what it takes? Most don't!

I cracked up at 2:28. Tyranny, injustice, etc.. yeah, we have that in the U.S. right now! Where are the Marines to stop it?

February 23, 1977, I remember 5 or so of us milling around the DC airport waiting for our flight to Charleston. Only the clothes on our backs and a large manila envelope in hand. An old lady asked where our luggage was, being motherly. One us replied we wouldn't be needing luggage where we were going. She asked where, and we told her. She gasped and crossed herself. Thanks Lady, now the reality hits. At the wooden receiving barracks we were met by a Gunny Green. He had Combat Aircrew Wings and a DFC ribbon. After graduation I mentioned this to my, Uncle a Ret M/Sgt. His standard reply for all such subsequent inquiry was a simple yes I knew so and so. in 1986 I was building AH-64A Apaches and was working with an inspector whom I knew was a Ret. Gunny. By now the weather had gotten hot and I to do a Torque to Witness. Jesse spotted my tattoo. He asked me when I served, 77-81 I replied. He said he was 57-77. I said that my uncle had served 54-74. What was his name he asked? James Aloysius Hegarty I said. He said "What!". I repeated myself. He described my Uncle perfectly. I asked where he knew him from? Laos 1961 he replies. Air America contract. My Uncle was shot down and barely survived 30 days. He was rescued the same day his Father (Grandfather to me) Died. He did not tell us until 83' why he was not at the funeral.

The biggest mistake I made in my li9fe was not joining up when I was young enough. Not I am too old. Don't make the mistake I did, join NOW while you are of age.

I just came across this site. And yes the training has changed. I went in 90 and came out 94. 1st Batt 1097 back then I had Ssgt and Gunn Sgt telling me about the old Cor ways. There is no old U S Marines. They have evolved in too a smarter fighting force. Still weapons and hands are our tools. But the Marines have become more reliant on technology smarter and faster. The need to haze and beat people into submission those days are over. Yes moms and some dads don't want to hear about there kids being beat to death by other recuirts. And yes I saw a guy in my platoon get a blanket party it's horrible. It was the greatest feeling receiving my eagle,globe and anchor I had tears in my eyes! Congratulations to all the future Marines.
