I made a jig to sharpen the blades of planes, chisel and knives at a certain angle.
It's very easy to use.

Appreciate you showing us how its used before you build it. Often people do the opposite and the audience has no idea what is being built nor the particular purpose.

@tgirard123

When you were adjusting the sharpener, I kept thinking to myself, how is he going to push the blade on the stone because it's hooked to the rod in the back which is holding the angle. I totally missed the whole idea that you don't have to push the blade back and forth, you can go side to side as well. That was so cool. I'm making one of these today...

Great sharpening system. I would add just one small feature: the arm the tool gets affixed to could have a clear centre line marked along its surfaces to ensure accurate alignment. That's the only thing that could maybe improve this.

I was thinking that myself, or marked in 5mm increments.
@chadwickmayer2604
@chadwickmayer2604 2 года назад
Although if it were marked at say 30 degrees. It may or may not be a 30 degree angle depending on where the cutting edge is clamped in direct relation to the “length” of the arm to which the tool is clamped to it, and it hooked on the anchor point. If total length is longer or shorter then those numbers would be nothing more than reference marks.....

you have beautiful stones and beautiful cutting tools, but I believe that using the stone in that way creates micro pits on the stone itself and over time you have to rectify it. one-side-bevel tools, such as chisels, kiridashi and plane blades, but also scandi beveled knives are very easy to sharpen without any support guide precisely because the single bevel gives the right angle automatically. although I find the way of rubbing on the stone anomalous, I find your technique effective. the Bevel Box is very interesting. Greetings from Italy

The grinding surface should be completely planar, since the rotation of the arm is following a cone and everythng attached to it follows the groundplane of the cone. Also aligning the stone tangential and shifting it, is pretty efficient with regard to wear and tear of the stone. Really really nice idea. But sorry, I'm a German, I have some critique too. Or better said improvement suggestions. Your threaded rod and the mounting of the arm create a big play and your planar surface is compromised by that. The threaded rod is moving pretty badly, which you can see at 1:30 . To improve that situation, you could add two more rods in a triangle to guide the arm mount. Or you could add some kind of support beams to your rod. The other issue I see is the mount of the arm. The loop has a play by itself. The arm can move back and forth, which results in a non planar grinding surface. You could either work with a cardan shaft (which is probably more expensive) or you could decrease a bit of the play by adding a wedge into the loop. Please don't get it wrong. I do really like what you do. It's very inspiring. I just want to help a little. :)
@henaken08
@henaken08 3 года назад
Don't you think it rounds the edges?
@kleckerklotz9620
@kleckerklotz9620 3 года назад
@@henaken08 That depends on the loop mount and how well the user is able to move and pressurise the blade evenly. But it shouldn't round the edges if everything is fine.
