I know the water sipping is funny but there's a reason for it. Being a quizzer, I know how obsessed quizzers are with not missing even a syllable of the question especially in a buzzer quiz. The few seconds after answering is the time you relax a bit, drink water whatever. Also it's gets very exciting during a quiz so you get a dry throat and thirsty.
