How did she manage to get hold of the drugs while sick in hospital bed? They were provided to her by the same people who went on to arrest her, just to spite her and humiliate her on her deathbed. All this for her song she always insisted on playing despite threats, strange fruits
She was murdered! The FBI instructed the hospital to refuse treatment she later died! You should also bring up the fact that that particular agent had a strong hatred for blacks. But if it makes you feel better to say her death was due to heart failure and drug addiction then by all means do so🙄
Yes,,, I’m totally obsessed with her story. How damaging drugs are (I speak from experience) yet how brave she was but yet all everyone wants to focus on is her addiction!

You are all right, so much left out, the focus was on her Heroin use and not on her extraordinary creativity and delivery. Not to mention her freestyle blues. I love the blues, it's part of the South and was created to relieve the abject misery of being a slave and it continued and created some of the best masterpieces and Billie was a masterpiece.
There is so much information missing from these 10 "facts" that I'm hesitant to even call them that. Incredibly misleading. There is far more story attached to them all. This made her seem like a dull and pedestrian musician when in reality she was a hero with more heart than the whole of the authorities harassing her. This didn't even scratch the surface.
It’s ironic how the US government did all that to suppress a song about lunching black people. And the song is know known world wide... that line in the movie when she told him your grandchildren will be singing my song has never been so true.
This left out allot of information. She was targeted and because of her history of drug use the police put it in her face after forcing her not to sing in night clubs. After being admitted into the hospital, She was getting better and the police again was ordered to stop the hospital staff from treating her and then she died.

You forgot to add that her father was never completely absent in her life. She loved him. He fought in WW1 where his lungs became severely damaged. Years later, after being refused health care by racist white hospitals, he died from complications due to that war injury. Billie, who only 22 at the time, was devastated. That same year, her idol, Bessie bled to death because white hospitals refused to offer her the life-saving care she needed. She died en route to the Black hospital which was too far away from where the accident occurred. Again, she was devastated. Billie Holiday hated racism and despised racists. She made this clear in song and speech. For that, the US government tormented her and drove her to an early grave.
