I think I will just stick with my first plan a 64 mm turbo and a Sneed Speed exhaust manifold and do the second Gen swap and for what I’ve been reading a 64MM turbo is about the all around best to get the best of both worlds . So is this what you say too for a stock 5.9 only upgrades I have is a Fleece intank lift pump and a Fluid Dampner and I have 152k and factory injectors and I have 3 fuel filters the first one is a Baldwin 5 micron water separator with drain and it goes to a Cat 2 micron and in the factory spot is a Baldwin 5 micron which I keep for the water senser and drain so that’s it and I still have the factory intercooler with the plastic end tanks and I think that was the only year for that intercooler .
I like that it acts like a small turbo to spin up fast then change the vanes to spin up horse power and the big thing to me is the engine braking going down mountains you won’t have to touch your brake pedal. On my 1992 your only gauge you had when climbing mountains was your water temp gauge so when pulling a big loads the water temp would run at 1/4 marke on gauge when you get to a hard lugging pull you would watch your water tem and when it got to 12:00 on gauge that’s when I down shift and temp would fall to a 1/4 mark on gauge and back in the day whe gauges were real and not a computer generated number and that worked great but I don’t think you could use that on todays trucks and you can not lug these new trucks but the 12 valve engines you could lug the hell out of them and they wouldn’t slow down they would just get louder and I miss this big time on the 24 valve one of the first thing in owners manual says in bold letters do not lug this truck so that’s where you don’t hear much about that from anybody builders and repair shops and I miss the sound of a 12 valve they sound the best to me and I hate the rear mounted turbo and I would love to put a Sneed Speed exhaust manifold and have ATS turbo to speeded the heat out and turbo brake brake is the best on the market and if I wanted to I can get a Jake brake from cummins and they will put it on but the price is like 3 grand and it comes with a 3 stag Jake .
Just over a year with my 4000. No troubles going up and down the hills of Wa. No head studs, even on a tow tune. Next is pairing it with ATS add a turbo 6000. No head studs need according to ppei. Staying below 700 hp.
