Forget mods, you can carry Dog's ball around and it'll attack enemies for you. It's pretty funny watching an invisible _(the model unloads)_ roller-mine casually, but slowly, destroy the entirety of Ravenholm.
- Only needs you for opposable thumbs - Frequently solves problems with violence - Constantly patronizing I'm pretty sure that Hunter is a cat rather than a dog.
They really are, i think the flying thing is cute too. A little reprogrammed manhack companion would also be adorable; how it would help you; i have no idea. Maybe it could help you make a salad?
In case anyone is wondering, yes hunters can instantly kill antlion guards with their charging attack. HOWEVER, antlion guards can also instantly kill hunters with their charging attack as well.
I'd love to see an expanded mod like this. Slowly turn the combine against itself until you're running around with hunters, dropships, gunships, and even maybe a strider or two. Just have a whole ass army of synths burning down the combine empire!
Better yet just get jolly to voice his own mod and have some colorful commentary added to this old title. He does die in one hit though soooo once jolly gets his own mod it’ll be a rage game as well much like the hardcore jolly mod only with a jolly follower that you can’t let die. Whatcha think ey?
Turns out that Humanity's place in the Combine is "being able to pick up small items and move them around", as well as quite possibly scritches for the myriad other races.
That Civil Protection officer wasn't making you pick up a can because he's a jerk, the feline hivemind of Overwatch compelled him to knock it down to begin with...
8:19 I mean, from the Combine's perspective, dogs are hunting animals bred by an alien race, so it's probably equivalent (if lacking in explosive rounds)
This reminds me that HL Hunters are such an amazing and iconic enemy design and everyone is sleeping on it. A horrifying 2 meters tall mass of raw synthetic muscles, claws, an explosive dartgun. A terrifyingly efficient balance of speed and firepower. I wish HL2:EP2 wasn't the only official game in existence that had them.
It's just so outright alien but still captures the synthetic feel of the Combine. The way they first introduced the Hunter was top tier presentation aswell
they are a synthetic copy of an existing creature. Striders are synthetic weaponized copies of an existing creature made using scanned data. Hunters could be either a synthetic copy of a different creature or even just a differently modified copy of the creature the strider is made from since they are similar. So in short they aren't cyborgs but synthetic clones of an organism that then were made into war machines.
@@fire_drake12.arc.24 Apparently one of older devs confirmed in one interview or another in recent years that these units are fabricated, and are simply based on designs of creatures The Combine encountered. Honestly, not my favorite retcon. I liked the idea of combine machinery being heavily augmented animals from alien worlds, but on the other hand its hard to explain why Strider's carapace deflects bullets and makes metalic impact sounds while doing it. So while it is a lamer explanation - it is the more consistent one.
I want a reverse of this mod, where you play as the hunter, and Gordon acts like Jolly in this video. People would keep complaining at how crap the AI is at solving puzzles
11:33 Jolly could've thought that the hunter was as clueless as him, until he shot the thing and then it realized what he was trying to do and assisted him in doing it. So it was still his victory.
Would be a funny meme to see in a puzzle mod. Make a really difficult puzzle and give them a certain amount of time to figure it out. If they(Jolly) can't figure it out by then, a Hunter wearing a collar with the tag "Huntee" in comic sans just solves it for you then fucks off.
Honestly I was expecting it to be a ruse, and you'd be jumped by a full squad of combine soldiers just like the Apprehension chapter in the OG HL1. Woulda been a neat twist. Just a super intelligent AI tripod, calculating at the exact moment that the best way to kill you, was to trick you into believing it was friendly after feigning it's debt to being "saved" at the start of the mod.
I mean, it's already a walking tripod-mounted machine gun that fires exploding darts and who obviously doesn't need you for anything besides opposable thumbs, which other combine already have. The best way to way to kill you would obviously have just been to bitchslap you when you had nothing but a pistol with barely any ammo, and then go about its day. It really has no need to follow you around unless it's just actively fucking around for funsies on both the Combine's Time and Dime, which would probably get it scrapped/recycled for insubordination anyways.
Some tarantulas keep pet frogs, the tarantulas defend the frogs from land threats while the frog eats wasps and other bugs trying to attack the tarantula. The hunter is the tarantula, Jolly is the frog. The hunter can solve almost any problem with inteligence and brute force. Jolly has opposable thumbs and can fit in tight places
5:30 IRL gas cylinders are built like that. When I was in welding school we had an acetylene cylinder catch fire once, it was perfectly fine once we got the valve shut off and blasted it with the fire extinguisher.
The mapmaker could have just had the hunter be friendly from the start and instead had the hunter just shoot the crate from a hole in the roof in front of the player, that way the hunter wouldn't attack the player and things would be less confusing. Overall, this is a pretty interesting concept. The map maker turned some of the most feared and often difficulty enemies in the game into helpful allies. It's also very nice to see mappers making use of the Combine gunship's unused belly cannon attack.
@Smug Bab it's the classic taking the thorn out of the beast, the beast can't just immediately love the hero, that would be ridiculous, first he has to help the beast in a time of vulnerability.
Awww Jolly finally got a doggo that ready to help him with puzzles xD Violence isn't the answer, it's a question and the answer is yes. If there's a puzzle and you can use violence to solve, why not?
Jolly being a pet for a hunter for 15 minutes straight Hunter: *managed to put oit anbattery from a car Jolly: *proceeds to force putting it back in* Hunter: maybe this wierd dog is not as smart as i thought
“Hunty kinds sounds like C**ty” Nah, that sounds both right. Back when I 1st played that infamous defence sequence in Episode 2, all those Hunters and Striders, I’d rather be back down the Antlion cave thousands of Antlion Guards (or Kings or whatever they’re called).
I've always found the hunters to be one of the more disturbing looking and sounding Combine. Though I feel I hate all tripods because I saw war of the worlds at an extremely young age.
Happy birthday! Thank you for making amazing half life maps. If you ever make a standalone Indie game or something please let me know. Your ideas are always interesting and original.
14:28 I thin’ this is wat happened: Hunter: HEY! HEY! Gunship: What? Hunter: Can you help out with a situation? Gunship: sure I guess. Hunter: alright explode that tunnel over there please. Gunship: Aight.
I've always really liked imagining enemies like these being friendly and helpful and nice, I really love this mod. and the last bit at the end with the ship helping out Jolly was really nice :3
Ah yes, the perfect mod that shows just how Jolly needs an ally to play these games. Even had a hard time blowing up a red barrel which frankly was amazing to see him fail that hard. Love you Jolly, never change.
Lmao this mod seems like an interesting idea! It's as if the synth's original conscience is still kicking somewhere and they're doing everything they can to rebel against combine orders
