Great story. I've been eyeing the unlimiteds for a while. I took a ram in Idaho Unit 27-1, so I know so well this type of hunt is no easy thing. I've been on my bike daily pedaling a thousand vertical; next transitioning to wearing my boots all day long ... so when I get back into country, I can rock and roll! I'm pretty sure most people, and nearly all non-hunters, have no idea how even sheep hunts (hunt units) vary. There are hunt units that humble even the best hunters. I have respect for what you did.
Thanks. I've put in for 27 in Idaho the last couple years. Headed to Idaho spring bear next week. Still haven't spent the money on an unlimited tag again. It's in the middle of other seasons. I feel like money wise id have to do one or the other, elk mule deer or sheep. I keep wanting to scout in the summer. But never made it up there. To busy with the kiddos
I have a picture of our camp the night before opener at the trail head with your truck! Can’t figure out how to get the pic in the comment tho.. either way great video! It’s crazy Country back there!!
Thanks man, It's the Prolite model. I have about 6 different ones now til I got this one. I like the texture of the surface. It's not loud or slippery. The other one I use is the same material thermarest but it's like the base camp XL. That's what I sleep on near the truck. It just bigger. The prolite is only 1lb, about as light as they get, but it's a little bulkier than some of the others. The exped I have packs to nothing, but I don't like sleeping on it. To slick and bouncy
Nice work. How many miles do you think you hiked in total? Me and my buddy were talking today about doing an Unlimited in '22. Won't be that unit but I felt like I got a good sense of the work you put in. I'm a mountaineer and Backcountry skier, so this type 2 fun appeals to me.
Oh yeah after reading the comments don’t worry about selfish people who want you not to show the area that’s just plain selfish people it’s good to show people what it takes to get to hunt these animals it helps new hunters who dream of it . We all know the liberal anti hunting folks who own social media will take down these hunting videos in the future so share and enjoy my friend don’t let the selfish folks keep you from it 👊🏻
I didn’t see any. Supposed to be a bunch. The year before, there were really fresh tracks zig zagging in the snow where it was digging up ground squirrels during the night.
Don't you need a permit to film in the AB wilderness? I respect your passions for hunting and filming. However, this video is a great disservice to people who have spent years or even decades hunting and trying to figure out the unlimited areas. Good on ya for trying but, in the end the old saying goes. Loose lips sink ships......
I usually don't post where exactly, I meant it as I was going mention where I was because it's useless. I never got close to a sheep. If I would have killed one, nothing like that would be in the video. Also the kill location for all of them for the last 15 years are available online. I looked at that data before hunting. But it's pretty random where they are found. I didn't feel like I helped anyone location wise? Sorry for any offense I caused. I've gotten cussed out pretty bad on here by anti-hunters, and I never respond, but I felt this one coming from a fellow hunter. My plan was to go back yearly and maybe I could connect after 6 or 7 years. Just takes once getting lucky.
I know information is readily available in places and one can do some reading and figure a few things out. Your route shares more information than you may know. I know it's all hard work and in the end a hunter truly needs luck to complete the over all goal. I'm not knocking you for one second on attempting the adventure, actually if you really knew me I route for fellow hunters that would like to try it and continue to. The reality of it is less that 2 percent of people that try it are successful. Most never return after 1 season and there's a reason why there's not videos out there on it too. If you care to talk more you can email me or something. Good luck on your future endeavors. Maybe one day you'll stumble around up there and luck into one. I'll talk to you via email or something but not over the comments section.
@@jonasmt8588 I completely disagree with your attitude. It will be your attitude that sinks the ship not this man sharing where he's hunting. I absolutely detest self centered hunter's desire to keep their "spots" when it's on public land. We need people like him to help and share information and get more and new people into hunting. It's critical to the preservation of hunting. Learning hunting is a daunting thing for completely new families and hunter's. Your comments would have been better to keep to yourself. This man is teaching and helping the next generation and your on the comment section whining. Time to grow up.
@@cocheran don't bother with these meatheads trying to keep their "spots" on public land. Your doing a great service educating future hunter's. We need to help get new folks involved if we want to keep hunting around.
New subscriber here. Love your video and determination! We have a similar RU-vid channel if you want to check it out, "Hunt and Gather with the Chatters".
