A common lower back stabilization strategy, particularly for athletes, is extension dominant. Being able to unlock your lower back and move it independently from your pelvis and thoracic spine is important.
This exercise helps individuals and athletes find a better position and relax the lower back. I like to use it both before and after activities like sports and weightlifting.

I just wamt to ask one question...is forward bending is good for low back?

Great question! A common myth is that forward bending is not good for your lower back. Spines, like all joints, are designed for movement so forward bending is good for your back. However, it may be a movement that is sensitized, especially if you have had a previous injury. The exercise demonstrated here would be safe for your lower back.

How long after a microdiscectomy would you recommend a patient wait to do this? L5/S1

is it an exercise you d recommend to give more flexion to your lower back ? i m 34 and exercise frequently over the past 10 years, between gym and surfing, but I realised that I cannot flex my lower back if i were to try to touch my toes. What flex is my upper back (huntchback effect), my lower back is totally flat, no curve happening at the lower back level. Not sure if related but it s been 9 months have chronic lower back pain (did all the CT scan, MRI, Xray and nothing shows)

Hey Mat! Thanks for the comment. This is a movement that is safe and effective for promoting some flexion into your lower back. Another great way is to lie on your back and bring your knees to your chest and give them a big hug. Hope they help!

@@OMNEchiropractic thanks ! yeah the big hug unfortunately creates pain in my spine ... feels like a big bruse that has been here for 9 months... very frustrating, seen chiro , physio, done multiple exercises but no improvment (neither get worse)...

@@matrevel9938 Then try this one and then use the big hug as your baseline to monitor progress. If that movement becomes easier to perform in addition to less painful, then you are likely moving in the right direction.
