Today we are talking about how to highlights to your coloring pages. We will first chat about the basics of light and shadow. Then we will move on to looking at how light and shadow are impacted by different surfaces or textures. Lastly we will color a flower with highlights.

Hi Kim. Yes, this is a really helpful tutorial. Showing how the light casts onto an object and shows the highlights/shadows was Great! I consider myself moderately good at this but there IS So much more to learn. That is one of the joys of coloring, learning new techniques. I will def be watching this series, and saving them....The reflective light that you demonstrated with the yellow casting onto the avocado was fabulous!...Those are some of the details one can add to their page that makes the image come alive....My goodness that Holbien white is wonderful! You nailed it! I was looking for help applying natural highlights but also when to use a more opaque highlight such as a paint pen or gel pen. You gave me both! Thank you!! 🙏 Ps I’m so glad you showed us a flower in Hanna karlzon’s book. I am soooo tired of Johanna basford cults taking over social media so much that only her art shows up! I happen to be a new Hanna karlzon fan after many years of neglecting her art and I was struggling a little bit with the flowers in her books as of recent. You’re the best Kim!
