This involved a ridiculous amount of design and planning, expensive materials and tedious assembly/finishing, for a stupid glue caddy. I LOVE IT! 😎🤘🏻😍

I love the details, like how that underside chamfer becomes a sort of compression ferrule when glue is added which helps keep the handle from pulling out.

I think so too. The mix of materials. The ideal blend of perfectionism, "good enough", and gorgeous aesthetic. An odd mix of descriptors I know, but I can't improve on it.

If you split it on one side, and then run a screw through it, the relieving one of the cut sides of threads, it will clamp when tightened. Thus not needing fr someone to hold onto it.

I bet you love using that thing now! I used to not value the quality of my shop stations/accessories/storage but it makes for a great pleasure when you really spend time on something that you'll use forever. Then you integrate it into your work flow, and no more thinking in that department! Ps. I have had a very exciting idea for a invention/project. Maybe I could talk to you about it sometime?

Perhaps add a small magnet to lock in the drawer gently, to keep the contents don't go flying if you move the glue-caddy too quickly? That would be my only concern about using it. Anyways, nice project! P.S. I miss the sawing sound effect.

Agreed. In general woodworkers are not set up to work with metal, and metalworkers look down their noses at woodworking. I love it when people are able to intelligently use both. (Seems a lot of other people do too). Also see Pask Makes and Scott Turner for other interesting mixed-media projects.

My experience with CA adhesive is the short term holding power compared to wood glues. CA adhesive are good for initial tacking if wood glues are used along with the CA for long term bonding.😁🛫

I have found that CA glue is very fast, but not very strong. Particularly with shock, and particularly with shear stress. PVA/wood glue is better at both. Also - CA glue adheres so quickly, that I think it has a weakness - it doesn't have time to absorb into the wood grain like wood glue does. For this project though, it doesn't need to - the amount of surface area is more than enough for any load this will see in normal use, except for anything catastrophic - like dropping a heavy load onto it from 1m+ above. In that case, the timber structure isn't up to it either - so the choice of glue doesn't matter. So - why use a less convenient glue.. Edit: I have not found that CA glue holds stronger when new than old - or that time has any effect on strength, but that's purely anecdotal, I haven't tested for it specifically. What have you found?

You can dowel it up off camera, for when the glue inevitably lets go. Not saying the glue is not good, but it will let go eventually.
