Floor insulation - since you have some of it left, you might consider installing the rolls flat against the bottom. It should not matter if the joists are uneven. This will give you an air space with the insulation on top and bottom... which should significantly increase the R factor. I've seen this done on other floor applications. Will also help keep the bugs out. Love your videos. Greetings from Brookings, Oregon.
I would tape the edges of that bubble wrap insulation. Not that the gun rack isn't nice enough but crooked branches would look cool too. thanks for the video.
I don’t know if this is entirely applicable, but the people who live in the very isolated communities in northern Canada do not keep their rifles in a heated building in the winter. The moisture in the cabin when exposed to a sharp drop in temperature can cause the rifle to malfunction and prolonged exposure to a humidity environment can also cause rust to the metal components, as well as severely dry out the stock due to constant swings in humidity level, just like the effect on solid wood guitar bodies.
This is what I like about you: Wildly amateurish carpentry with a soupcon (I don't know how to spell it) of O.C.D. + a pile of perfectionism, blended with a goofy philosophical mind set! There! I said it. Been subscribed long time.
Just a quick idea, try a putting a gutter an downspout on one your buildings. Then bucket/barrel under it for water. Maybe a screen over the top for chunks. Rain water makes a great shower feeling...
Kind of agree with Patrick, another layer of that insulation and glue the edges while you're under the cabin would improve the R factor and seal out the bugs. I really enjoy your creativity!
Ryan -- who says these upgrades are unnecessary? I can picture learned archeologists from future millennia examining rare plastic tokens bearing the previously unknown image of a ringworm, and speculating liberally about the civilization that used them . . .
Those Ringworm Coins are going to be cropping up everywhere there are coin operated machines, so get ready for the notoriety, and then of course the jail time. I love em, I love em, I love em! You do excellent work young man.
Another great Saturday morning. Coffee and Ringworm. When are you going to build your solar bank? That would be a cool project for you... and save you some gas generator time.
You have become my Saturday morning viewing go to . 😊Very entertaining young man. If you get time to skirt the underside I bet the temps will be even better. Something to consider
Water down any color latex paint. Apply with cloth then wipe off immediately. Repeat to desire effect . it makes cool cheap colored varnish. Then poly over it.
You know what you can do? You can draw around the edge of it of your gumbo machine. Then route t head out toward ships down in there enough that it won't fall out or off
Cool. I made a gumball machine out of mahogany in highschool wood shop. Basically a vertical and slanted hole and then a big dowel with a hole slanted that would drop candy as you turned the dowel.
You probably did not notice but the limb you used for a brace on the M&M dispencer made it look like an optical illusion. It looks like it is suspended from the wall by a limb. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You could put two small dowels to fit on each side of your stud then put a screw under the the shelf in the stud!! Just a though! I do enjoy your shows!!
love the perfect lower case "r"s (for ringworm, I am sure) you put upside down to hold your rifle. Can't wait for you to make the "cheese" dispenser as cool as the candy dispenser.....a must have in the woods...but hope the bears don't sniff it out!
Love watching your channel. It's the reason that I wake up early on Saturdays. I'm actually going to start building on my off grid property this summer. You have alot of good content
Sorry Ryan, I just couldn't reach from where I am sitting....Ontario Canada LOL!!!:) -I'd have to get an invite, hint, hint.... yea... i Get it! 😄👍 Hey that first pass with the router looked like a Charlie Brown Smile! Every cabin ought to have a gumball machine!! You have a gift of cutting out the R&D on a project with very few prototypes -if any!
I've never used glow in the dark filament before, but they say it will chew up your nozzles if they aren't hardened. I've also experienced in the past that your drive gear will also get chewed up if it's not hardened. Just a little tip if your using a lot of glow in the dark filament. It can slowly degrade your print quality due to the wear on the mechanical parts.
With the live edge on just one side, it's too bad you didn't mount it with the coins on the right. If you think the oil base poly a little it can soak into the wood and seal it better and still give it that great look!
Question: have you considered adding gutters to your cabin to capture rainwater? It may supplement your freshwater source without the need to drain the swamp to refill your tanks?
I thought I knew almost all of the great guitarist in the world I had never heard of Derek trucks so I had to Google him Man !!! I listen to midnight in Harlem was blown away thanks for turning me on to him Will be listening to more of him 👍❤️✌🏻
Ry, my guy, we need you get the puppy asap, I kno it's a burden of sorts for you, But the customer is always right..and more important than ur needs lmao, and please get you a proper solar power setup Also put some felt on the gun mount mounting surface keep the piece nice
Why don't you try making 1 x 2 boards and put those on top of the part that sticks down on the bubble insulation underneath and just screw them to the floor joist would be a lot easier than using Staples
With 3d printing, could you start a coin, stop and add a washer, then finish the coin? I could see where that printer could eat up some free time Take care Ryan
GosH you could make wooden plates like a cafeteria plate be a big hassal n I duno what youd use em for or serving trays for your parties I always liked wooden bowls for salads n things. Or there arev emersion heaters to heat buckets or even tubs of water but they are electric and expensive we had gas ones in the army for heating 50 gallon barrels n I think they us gas or diesel fuel for the field mess or kitchen w gas stoves.
Now just add another layer of the bubble insulation spaced about 1 1/2 -1 3/4 apart and your R value will increase so much you won't even believe it ! As a hint , I just ripped some 2" rough cut strips from scrap material to hold it in place and did a triple layer on the skirting on my camp and at well below zero F I can now run around barefoot with no issue now. In hindsight three layers was likely over kill and I realized 2 probably would have sufficed . Of course originally the main floor had been insulated with standard insulation, but sense I added the skirting and bubble insulation the second Winter my floors went from around 40-45 F normally to nice and toasty on well below 0 F days. I swear by the "Refletix insulation" and in the 3 Winters I've been here at the High Mountain Homestead I reduced my firewood consumption by well > a full cord the second and third year just from using that insulation and I only heat with wood . Big Plus,, it's just so darn easy to work with too ! You think the single layer did wonders for you Ryan, try a second layer with a dead air space in between and you'll be astounded by just what a difference it makes,,who'd a thunk it ? I like it so much I am using it on my new 26X30 steel garage and even after using only a single layer so far as a vapor barrier ,,as you did, it made so much of a difference I just can't believe it. I'll never use regular insulation again after using the Refletix insulation. Bonus part is that , bugs, squirrels, and mice just don't touch it and it won't hold moisture like any normal rock wool or pink insulation does,,,,, IT'S FRIGGING AMAZING STUFF !
Great fun watching you puts around the cabin on these “unnecessary” improvements! You’re craftsmanship just continues to improve. Not surprised that the bubble foil improved your heat loss. Excellent!
Maybe you should make some coozies for your water buckets using the reflectix insulation. Should keep the water from freezing and also catch the sweating. You could put some felt in the bottom. Love your videos!
For the mancave a wood block vice and some peg holes in a bench. Find a couple of used rigid solar panels and mount them near the cabin. Even in bad weather they will generate some power and trickle charge the Jackery's. On a good day they'll be banging. Cut down on the generator.
