It's a shorter review this week! Despite episode 9 technically covering 4 chapters, it actually only adapted 3.5, making it the episode to tackle the least amount of material yet. Despite that, there's plenty of awesome stuff this week - what was your favourite moment? Let me know!
Honestly this episode was pretty good to me, obviously I loved the Kenpachi and Unohana stuff, but also Shunsui at Central 46 and even just Ichigo and Renji interacting were very very nice
the part where she says "How dare you admire the enemy amid battle!" gave me chills for the rest of the episode and a few minutes after, what an amazing job
@@ysyear for me it was hearing her basically says to kenny she prefers when she doesnt speak. As her scar aches from hearing kenny's voice. That moment kinda brought back a flurry of flashbacks to all the times unohana mom'd tf out of kenny. The pure tolerance she has shows. From a pure blood lust craved serial killer to the delicate yet scary authoritative healer who seemed as she could do no real harm. But I hope the english voice acting is as great as the source. Truly great skills.
Unohana being the first kenpachi will always be my fav plot twist in bleach. And I still can't believe we are watching it after so many years, I feel like I'm a kid again
For real. None of my friends watch Bleach, so it’s so fun to watch his videos and see another fan who’s really excited about and genuinely likes Bleach. :)
The transitions between the two demons and their lieutenants impacted the fight between the two kenpanchis greatly. Isane crying and yachiru seeing Kenny's eye patch, all of this along with the music that played at this part of the episode made it so tragic and sad.. It really showed that this wasn't just a simple training match but a death battle where one will die and the other will significantly grow from it
"How dare you admire your enemy amidst battle?" Is such a rad line it just goes to show how abnormal Kenpachi is. In a real world fight humanizing your enemy is one of the surest ways of weakening your mental fortitude, that may be one of the reasons for the shift from Yachiru to Retsu Unohana, whereas Zaraki Kenpachi is the kind of guy that would kill *precisely* because he admires you.
This is retarded weeb shit. Read storm of steel if you want to know how a real warrior thinks. Much cooler to admire an enemy and overcome that admiration and experience transcendence by vanquishing that which you admire.
The episode ending on unohana mentioning her biggest sin is perfect since it adds and creates a lot of excitement about their backstory, their fight, her sin.. I have been in awe with the animation so far and I believe her bankai will be animated gorgeously.
I love the way that Yachiru's movements are animated. Slow, methodical, graceful. A true predator stepping through a dance of certain death. This anime is a blessing from the heavens.
Unohana is not pleased about this fight. She's tortured, physically aching and remorseful toward what she did to Zaraki. That's not a turning creepy smile. It's a ghost. She's in hell, and she no longer has any reason to hide that because only Zaraki will be leaving. She also knows what will be required to remove Zaraki's limits and restore his strength, and she pities him for it.
Well said. In a way, Yachiru Unohana "died" with Retsu Unohana. There's no other way she could suppress her desire for bloodshed; for all we know, Tenjiro may have treated her mental health, as well, causing her to finally experience empathy, which causes Yachiru's "death". She's just making a cameo to help Zaraki.
Now anime watchers know why almost every soul reaper is afraid of Unohana, despite having a sweet smile. I’m also glad they moved the introduction of Oetsu Nimaiya to later episode instead of cramming it all in one.
It also explains why Aizen and that one arrancar decided to leave rather than deal with Unohana. Aizen knows it would a rough battle and the arrancar just let's Unohana do her medic things to stay alive
@@alvin081988 Uh I can't think of a few options. Either he didn't had the info that Retsu and Yachiru were the same person (I mean her personality and role shift is so absurd that it's a plausible assumption for me) or he didn't had any personal capable of dealing with her atm. Unohana should theoretically be only one tier bellow Yamamoto and Ywhach said that only himself could deal with Yamamoto so the number of Sternritters that could deal with her was limited and he rather used them to havoc the rest of the Gotei 13 instead of concentrating too much resources in a single person
This episode probably has the best pacing so far. The decision to hold Oetsu’s intro for later was very smart and the overall flow didn’t feel rushed at any point. Episode 8 felt a little crammed but there was a lot to unpack if we’re being fair.
I strongly expect the final scene of the Season to be Uryu being revealed as having joined the Wandenreich, to bring together all of his extra scenes. It's the single biggest cliff hanger they could have in my mind.
@@ericaung9015 When they went to the SK palace. Ichigo was fighting 1v8 as he went after Yhwach only to find out who he was with aside from Jugram, Uryu.
Bro your dedication is absurd. i've seen almost all your videos, you are my Light when it comes to Bleach. Your eyes shine when you talk about it, the passion you transmit is overwhelming! Your job is LOVED here overseas in Europe, keep it up my friend!
I hope they give us the best fight yet, I think they will and thats saying alot because Yama vs Yhwach and Ichigo vs Yhwach were already incredible. This is just a pure savage battle. The choreography of the sword play and movements will definitely be spot on. I hope they do Unohanas Bankai justice too.
I really love the fact that Unohana is THE first kempachi( I was shocked when I saw her face going from nice person to bloodthirsty psychopath ) and the fact that she is the only one to tech Zaraki the art of the sword is something else. Can't wait to see the full fight from beginning to end.
I like how they show her face in Muken, it's practically a jump scare. She looks so different from the gentle and motherly healer we've come to know, I think it works really well cutting straight to it. It's like you blinked and then realized she's already stabbed you through the heart.
Such a power gap between the new and old head captain. I can't get over it. It is like a 6 year old being told to play in the nhl because ovechkin retired
My favorite part of the fight is the sound design, just the OST aligning with the movement of the battle. Especially the part when Unohana gets pushed back and a cloud of dust follows her trail and you hear the music become very eerie and sinister along with her stance.
The Zero Division talking scenes are not going to get as much quality as Kenpachi vs Unohana. It’s as simple as that.. They probably had two separate teams working on the talking & action scenes respectively.
I remember Aizen destroying Hitsugaya back during the Soul Society Arc and I always wondered why he didn’t want to mess with Unohana. It all makes sense now 😅
One of my favorite details is how Unohana’s scar is always present in basically every shot of her, rather than the manga where it’s still obstructed a lot of the time
You know what would be amazing, splicing shots of kenpachi vs unohana with shots of kid zaraki vs yachiru all obito vs Kakashi style. The would be fucking incredible. Of course, would absolutely love an explanation on wtf her bankai is. That'd be nice too.
Tite Kubo said earlier this year that he was working with the anime team to create the visual of Unohana’s Bankai so I’m really looking forward! He will probably tell them what to show, how she fight with it (maybe new anime fight scene?) what color he want etc… We will have the staff for next episode really soon so I really hope we will get talented people next week. Thanks for the review as always.
I think the next episode should start with flashbacks of Unohana and Zaraki and be devoted entirely to their fight. Like Yamamoto vs Yhwach in episode 6.
Waiting on DBS to start back up been a GREAT last few years in anime, the big three taking over one piece, Boruto (Naruto) and now bleach having the tybw animated with DBS right around the corner, it's surreal as a 90s kid seeing the classics still dominate
It's a shame that Unohana didn't show anything in the arrancar or soul society arc. She could have fought alongside Yamamoto for the last time. Honoring the old times with her comrade.
Lmao, they placed buff Kon like that without any context, except for that little scene where Ichigo sees for a brief time that Kon is in the 12th Division it's just completely random, at this point they could literally remove him overall and it would make more sense. Second weird thing, i think showing Unohana in the OG flashback with that wicked look so clear was kinda destroying the overall surprise. We knew in manga that she waqs there in the old times, but see her real personality like it was in the manga was kinda more surprising. Other then that, it was actually a good move to get rid of Oetsu segment to move it to the next episode.
"Sakuranosuke" (総蔵佐) is the _correct_ middle name of Shunsui. "Souzouza" is a mistranslation in the manga fan translation. For Japanese names, the correct pronunciation of the kanji is unknown if not indicated. In the original Japanese Bleach manga, the kanji are normally accompanied with furigana that is written in hiragana to indicate the pronunciation. But in Chapter 520, Shunsui's full name isn't accompanied with any furigana so there was no way to correctly deduce the pronunciation. Then, Chapter 649 came out and Katen Kyōkotsu calls Shunsui by his middle name 総蔵佐 along with the furigana "さくらのすけ" (sakuranosuke).
"And seeing those luscious-" Me: He's not going to say what I think he is, is he? "bowls of food" Me: ...yeah. The food. Of course that's what he meant. Nothing else luscious in that scene...
i belive the writers want the anime to have a good pacing between action and relief , exposition points so one dosen't predominate too much last week ep was a relief exposition ep so they made this one have more action in the 2nd half. next ep will feature the entire kenpachis fight and the rest of 122,123. if the anime is too slow then people lose interst fast in it and get bored, so you need a good mix between action and everything else
19:23 Not seeing char-sama is still bugging me. Where is Aizen's Chair. This him being strapped to a pillar is annoying me, I want the chair. Especially when the chair is detrimental to the thoery of why Aizen got stronger.
feels like they're taking their own direction and trying to make the most sense out of the manga content by piecing it together in a way which makes sense. I think we can all see that the last arc is rushed after the 1st invasion ends and maybe Kubo just kept filling pages with stuff trying to move the story along as fast as he could to the end. The reason I say this is the awkward pacing we see in the manga itself and how many fights end off screen.
I think cour 1 ending with the Yhwach/Zangetsu reveal would be a good move for the anime. It leaves enough space for Everything But The Rain arc and also hype up the next cour by dropping one of the most shocking plot twists in the series.
14:00 no,it doesn't seem inconsequential. To me,it reminds me just how thorough and 4-dimensional Kubo is as a writer. He has a very balanced knowledge of what his fans want BUT also what his story needs.
Unohana's monstrous side being revealed will always be the most jarring revelation of the series even with the telltale hints. No one would suspect such a kind angel of mercy and healing is a mass murdering psychopath. The actress was great in swapping both personalities.
There are many more 'jarring' revelations, especially regarding Ichigo's true power. What did Unohana actually do the whole of Bleach? She did nothing with the Arrancars, did nothing with Quincy, and just trained Zaraki and died.
I think the English translation for Unohana's poem comes across as pretty simple, but if you know a little Japanese it comes across pretty poetically. The poem is 戦い こそ すべて (tatakai koso subete) 戦い or tatakai simply means battle, すべて or subete means everything, but the こそ (koso) basically emphasizes the thing that precedes it (tatakai or battle in this case). This is a pretty general explanation of こそ (koso), but there's not really an English equivalent for it. Probably one of my favorite poems thus far for its conciseness!
In a way, Yachiru Unohana "died" with Retsu Unohana. There's no other way she could suppress her desire for bloodshed; for all we know, Tenjiro may have treated her mental health, as well, causing her to finally experience empathy, which causes Yachiru's "death". She's just making a cameo to help Zaraki, just a ghost. Fun Fact: the characters for "Yachiru" literally translate to "8,000 Styles/Schools", refering to her vast knowledge of Zanjutsu.
I love that you praise the voice actor for Unohana. She is voiced by veteran seiyuu Hisakawa Aya who is probably best remembered for voicing Mizuno Ami or Sailor Mercury from the 90s anime adaptation of Sailor Moon. Picture Unohana saying "Mercury Star Power Make Up" and it's whack lol.
I might be alone on this one, but even with Unohana admitting he was stronger than her back then, I don't think that necessarily means that he would have won without a doubt. If you think about it, Yama's raw reiatsu was more powerful, but she was still considered the most skilled and dangerous. Feels like the same principles would apply. Regardless, I love both characters and love their arc.
She was not the most skilled and dangerous. Kenpachi means strongest in terms of killing thirst and raw fighting power (sword fighting). She is nowhere near Yama reiatsu or overall power. Zaraki was also kenpachi for a long time, and lost against Ichigo without mask/bankai.
I like the theory that Mugen only has 1 floor and Aizen is somewhere with chair-sama watching these two going at it while thinking "sure glad I dipped when she inspected that fake dead body of mine"
I predict Episode 13 will have a post credits scene of the conclusion of Prinz Von Licht which will be moved to AFTER 542. I also think the Captains training should largely be moved to the Second Cour. Maybe a small cameo would be fine but I think by moving their training to the Second Cour it would give more breathing room and it would help build up hype for the second invasion especially if the Captains training is juxtaposed with the Sternritter.
MRTOMMO2304 there is a scammer using your profile picture and name. He's sending people links and telling them they won a prize. He's trying to steal peoples information.
This fight is cool and all, but Everything But The Rain is what I'm really waiting for. Really hope they nail it, because for me it's one of the peaks of the series.
My hot take prediction: Episode 10 will be all about the fight between the Kenpachi, and Episode 11 will cut out some of the comic relief stuff, and will be all about Oetsu and the passage of time and their rigorous training over 3 days.
18:39 never noticed that he had a iPhone until now. XD I think the first cour will end with the yhwach talking about the Quincy song poem and complaining the last words that were cut out from the beginning of the first episode. I’m pretty sure that’s were it’s going otherwise they wouldn’t have shown it like that. But that’s just my opinion and who knows how they’ll end it. Just got to wait and see.
There are three types of women in action/fighting anime: 1: The weak women who simps over the “strong” guys 2: The strong women who are highly sexualized (big boobs, etc.) 3: The strong women who aren’t sexualized but has to pay the price for the men to rise. It’s hard to find animes where these types of women doesn’t exist. It’s quite sad how sexist and misogynistic these action animes are.
I hope the next chapter is mostly based on the Kenpachi battle with it beginning with their fight in the past. Maybe they could give us more insight into Unohana's Bankai as well. Hopefully.
I think episode 10 will go as follows: we start with Nimaiya segment up until Ichigo and Renji about to fight the asauchi. I think it could be covered within the first 7-10 minutes easily. The rest of the episode will be Unohana and Zaraki fight, their flashback, long awaited Unohana's bankai and the episode ends with Zaraki killing her and hearing the voice of his zanpakuto. Then the end credits go and we see post-credit scene with Nimaiya saying that Renji passes while Ichigo doesn't. Episode 11 may start with Ichigo being in shock and Nimaiya sending him to the human world. Then we see the opening and Everything But The Rain portion starts. As for the ending of part one of this arc, I think we do see how Ichigo finally obtains his dual Zangetsu and then says the line. But I thing the final scene will be Yhwach assembling his forces for the second invasion and revealing the new Sternritter - Ishida. And that will be our cliffhanger untill the anime continues.
so they planned to make us waiting for another year or 2 after 12 episodes? Isn't TYBW arc was suppose to be long-runing anime? They could just cut Bo**to entirely for hiatus until the manga has enough material to animated and focusing all budget to Bleach last arc instead. I don't expect Pierrot will drop the anime for hiatus especially since the anime was kinda near end already and fans being hyped to see it. Like getting cut content from the manga wasn't bad enough😭
As much as I am particular in crticizing animation in anime, the voice acting is a major part in enliving the moments in a story-telling show, and Bleach proved to be one of the best series to have vero good VAs. And of course it's Unohana's who wins for this episode
They say there should only be one Kenpachi per generation. The current Kenpachi will have to be killed in order for the title to be passed on. If Unohana was the 1st Kenpachi, why is she still alive? How did the 2nd Kenpachi get the title if she is still alive and even moved to a different squad? Can anyone tell me please. Thank you.
I really feel like they always had issues with fight interruption since there the only fight currently I really hope they have most of the fight uninterrupted and now flushed out.... That reveal of unohuna being the real kenpachi def could of used a sound n dark background music when the lol changed all just my opinion but regardless great episode as whole....and best and darkest season yet
I love how the people laying out the anime have to be huge Bleach fans. They read the source material and figured out how it should laid out to now cause confusion, while still staying almost identical to the source. As much as I loved reading it when it first came out, the anime is being put together so much better, and I'm hoping the final battle will get a little more love than Tite got to end it.
I hope for next episode the vast majority of the episode is just the battle between the kenpachis. While the last 4 minutes is the intro to Oetsu Nimaiya where we are left with both Ichigo and Renji looking confused. overall I love how they rearranged these chapters.
15:25 he is also older than Ichigo (or at least I assumed he was older dispite him looking the same age, in my head it’s kinda like looking at an elf and thinking they are the same age because they look the same age as you) I always assumed that most of the Soul Reapers were quite a bit older than our hero’s from earth even if it’s only like 50 or so years older than Ichigo of course when your life is measured in thousands of years what is a mere 50 years. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we all die is quite a fitting line here.
The next episode is the animal's time to shine. If they take the time to flesh out Unohana's bankai and its function, it will show us that the showrunners will give us everything we need in the coming battles/storylines.
21:47 I've seen plenty of reaction videos from anime only fans and I can guarantee to you: The same bone-chilling effect that panel gave us is the same bone-chilling effect that frozen frame gave them. The more I watched people experience her face, the more it made sense to me.
Did zaraki ever fight Yamato to test his limits or did Yamamoto only show him kendo style? If unahana was too weak for him as child then he should have fought Yamamoto at full strength in the same place so his spiritual pressure doesn't destroy seritei
Though I'm a long time bleach fan im ashamed to admit that I don't really know what a gikon is. Could ya do a vid explaining all that and mod souls too?
"I don't know why the animation quality shifts between a comedic set piece where a bosozoku pomp man is wearing a fundoshi and one of the most anticipated fights in the entire series "
I had no issue with the animation shift between what is essentially now 2 different storylines. What Ichigo and Renji are going through isn't as dire as what is happening in the Muken or the rest of the Seireitai. And I think the less hard animation style allows us a visual cue of that difference in severity?? I don't like that word, but can't think of a better one right now.
30:00 maybe did she heal him? ( i know its filler) but when regai shinsui and ukitake fought yama, unohana was insta healing them after yama would fry them
So Zaraki is around 1 thousand yo or at least quite ancient himself too as well since he met her when she was still captain of the 11th. The time line seems off.
i hope they expand the soul king's time in the show. that line about the soul king being into ichigo really threw me off since its never addressed again. i thought it was a translation error, and while i think the translation i read was still a bit wrong based on the way tenjiro says it here, the translation i read made it sound like the soul king was in love with ichigo stating "thats why he fell for him", i still feel like this is a plot point that needs to be addressed if it was going to be left in.
Didn't they completely skip over Rukia, Byakuya being in the hot spring too?! And renji's pineapple looking hair. There was a lot of comedy in that hot spring scene that was totally left out. Sad
My fav line 今のあなたには力がない The translated it as “right now you are weak” BUT really it’s more like “Regarding the present you, power doesn’t exist!” I was SCREAMING when she said that and she was so COLD BLOODED!
