100 percent agree. I just met Adam at a Saint Asonia show and I will say he seems like he's doing better (mentaly) with saint asonia than he was with three days grace.
Love both EPs, they are fantastic. But his work that, for me, it's his best one post Three Days Grace is Saint Asonia's Flawed Design album. His best work since One-X, imo.
Adam gontier by far. Dude's singing is so talented - one of the very few that can perform just as well (sometimes even better) live as they can on any album. Gontier just has one of those unique voices and not many can replicate what he can belt out. I saw him live in April perform in Saint Asonia - awesome first ever concert.
Three Darkest Days! It was, it is, and always will be Adam! I'd love to see them reunite to do a tour. Have Adam perform his songs. Have Matt do the songs after Adam left. That's the only way. Matt singing Adam's songs just work for me. And I loved My Darkest Days!
You should do Breaking Benjamin next, I miss the old lineup because they were more raw. With a new lineup, everything just sounds way too overproduced. even though they didn’t contribute to the song writing, they were good live and in the studio.
Saw saint asonia a few weeks ago and Adam hasn’t lost a single step. The love they got when they did TDG songs was something else. He still has the same energy on stage and hit every not effortlessly!
As an over-the-top die hard fan of 3DG, I was turned off to Matt when he joined, felt so weird hearing them play. I didn't listen to anything until 2022 of the new 3DG albums. Quite frankly, Matt doesn't get the love and respect that he should get from fans. He stepped in on no notice to do a full tour, and every album he has released with them has slowly but steadily gone away from their original sound, and they have a whole new vibe with Matt. I've been to 6 3DG shows in 2 years. Matt in an incredible vocalist, Explosions was such a killer album, as the songs are written for Matt to sing to. Huge props to Matt. Obviously Adam, I mean probably the best rock vocalist, certainly of our generation, but maybe of all time to be honest. I think they should have Matt & Adam as vocalists, and write new music together. They'd go straight to the moon.
Matt was in My Darkest Days... and honestly, imo... I wish MDD did not break up. However, knowing that all of the boys in MDD have ventured out, some into country music others still in rock, have been successful in their lives since their split. Adam IS TDG. Like you, I haven't been into TDG since Adams departure.
I saw them last week in Nashville for the first time ever. Adam came out and sang the last 3 songs. So I got to hear both live at the same show. Wasn't even close....Adam far and away better. And the crowd went absolutely nuts when he came out. Ended it with Riot and the energy was off the charts.
I'm 100% in agreement. It's hard to see a successful band that develop such a passionate fanbase and then as the fans we have to see him walk away and the band continue, you don't ever feel the same no matter what they do.
This video appeared on my yt wall, so I was just curious and watched it. The first time I heard Three Days Grace was probably 2008-2009 and it was a song from One-X "Time of Dying". I was too young to fully understand the message, but I grew up with this band. Today I am different person and I can listen to and hear the words of their songs. These discussions about who is better lead singer, Adam or Matt, in my opinion this is completely unnecessary, but it is what it is and it will probably never stop. Let’s start with Adam, obviously he has a voice like no other and can hit the deepest part of the heart by singing, he is also an incredible human. Matt has a voice which can perfectly hit higher notes, but also smoothly sings the ballads and he is such a nice guy. Going straight to the point, both of them represents two different sides of 3DG. It’s not like "Adam is better frontman because" or "Matt is better frontman because", no. Both of them are good. Matt is amazing in his own way and Adam does it tremendously in his style. Both of them were with the band since the beginning, Matt co-wrote a song for the self-title album. There is also an age difference between them, so they had different influences that had an impact on the music they make. I think this video includes extended opinion about records which were made during Adam’s era, but there’s nothing about Matt’s era records. In my opinion "Human", "Outsider" and "Explosions" are not as similar as you think. There are three different histories, like "Three Days Grace", "One-X" and "Life Starts Now". "Transit of Venus" is in the middle of them right now, people love it or hate it, but it’s still a good piece of music. Why? Because each of the vocalist was/is telling his unique story. In my point of view, Adam made right decision for himself and for the band when he left. Because if you want to save something, you have to save yourself first. Then Matt came, gave the band fresh energy and they’re still there. Life is life. I won’t choose who is better, both are good. And both are the reason why this band is my favourite.
I'd think it'd be cool because I have a lot of respect for both of them and a lot of love for both of them id like to see Adam and Matt head the band together both of them as lead singers
The feeling I get is it’s basically like watching your favourite show for 10 years and the main character gets recasted mid way through and you’re supposed to just keep moving like nothing happened. Matt does fine. But Adam is three days grace and always will be
I absolutely love that take and I believe that is in my opinion one of the best ways to put it, absolutely. Matt has jumped in and did his own thing very well but like you said, Adam was a main character, you cannot replace that character with anybody that's gonna take his place period. Adam 100% agreed. All you got to do is get a ticket to Saint Asonia! I got to see them on tour with Theory of a Deadman earlier this year and Saint Asonia was absolutely amazing. Adam sang "I Hate Everything About You" and I can't even believe it- "I Don't Care" which are 2 of my absolute favorite songs of all time. 3DG nostalgia right there, would love to do it again! Adam with OG. great stage performance, vocals and played guitar on multiple songs. Matt has been there from the beginning since the Debut album. also having brad as the bassist matt was well aware of everything, because of Matt tho we still have 3DG. seen them in september and is was a good show.
I have some recent videos of the Nashville show on my RU-vid channel. Now I must say I totally agree with you on Adam is no doubt TDG. Yes, Matt is a great filler but Adam needs to somehow be back as the front man. That being said I don’t know how that will happen for how they will do it but that’s what I really hoping for. Like can Matt sing as background vocals or something? Or maybe he wouldn’t mind stepping down kinda like with what happened with Blink-182. But here’s the problem. His brother is in 3DG and I bet that’s the biggest hold up or issue that I can see from keeping it from happening. Keep up the great videos and rock on. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Gontier is the one i listened to as a kid. So the memories, the impact it had at the time is unreplaceable. Yet still have to listen ti the new dude. I will.
Both Adam and Matt are great, however, each are great in their own way. Matt joined 3DG and helped take them in a new direction and helped them evolve, something every band must do. Comparing Matt to Adam is like comparing a bagel to a donut. It's unfair to expect the same thing from the other.
Now, obviously, when you do a title and thumbnail for a video, you want to entice an audience to watch, but this is definitely not to bash on Matt or say he isn't good, I definitely believe he help the band go in their new direction we'll but for me Adam is my guy but I also it a good conversation to have because I know there alot of different opinions. Last thing, Adam has never stopped and for ROCK genre and post grunge, Adam proved he is supposed to be in the music industry to heal himself and others and he does.. i was a bad addict got put into a self induced coma for weeks.. many songs Adam wrote are about his addiction but music is amazing so people get to feel it however they need! :)
I remember for my 13 bday in 2005 my dad bought the psp which had just barely came out. It came with a demo disc and it had the song “home” and eventually bought the album. I was never brought up on any type of rock music but once I head that song it opened me up to all other genres and soon after started my emo phase lmao. A few years later when I was about 16 I become addicted to Vicodins which turned into oxys opanas and eventually heroin by 19. I didn’t even know anything about Adam being addicted to opiates until a couple of years ago. Pretty crazy the way life takes u sometimes

Adam and Matt are both so amazing, and it really would be something for both of them to be lead vocalists for the band. But in terms of deciding who is better, I think Matt deserves a lot more credit than he's given. I love them both equally, and it stings to see how many people shit on Matt.

I meet the band in the golden era (one x ) and i hard a hard time adapt to matt, since his first album with 3daysgrace was great but not that great, but when outsider came out i loved it, explosions is also great i no longer think about thrm being two split bands vocally but a whole family im glad matt is holding the band alive and eventho adam took a different path hes kicking ass with saint asonia
Great video, loved the background research you made. As with everyone, it is not even a question. I saw both Matt and Adam (with Saint Asonia) live and yeah... its not even close. The thing that I still regret to this day is when I was 16 in 2011 I was at the Uproar Festival with my dad b/c my dad is cool and also none of friends would come. But after bullet for my valentine it started to rain... and I mean pouring rain. They had to stop the show because of the wind and the insane rain we've just had. My dad and I were not prepared for that. We were soaked and we decided to leave thinking they might not even start again. At this point we waited a good 20 minutes under a tree stacked with some potheads (at least that was what I was thinking as a 16 years old). While in our way back we could ear Seether playing, but we still decided to go home. If I knew Adam would have left the band 1 year later, let me tell you that I would have went back completely soaked, frozen and I would have not cared. Thank you for remembering me this.
Thank you, I really appreciate the comment, again research online has to be taken with a grain of salt, because unless you're really talking to the artists or people that have been there, you never really know what is 100% accurate, but I love talking music. Just saw them live two weekends ago at Ridgefield Wa, I last saw them in 2012 with Adam.. One of the biggest disappointments all time, its not even close Adam is the man!! Matt seemed drunk and stagnant. Came home and found SAINT ASTONIA!! ADAMS new band!!
I've always supported Adam. It's like a landmark for me. Many 3DG fans have made the adaptation difficult for Matt themselves. After listening to so called life, it seems to me that he has just found his style and it already sounds more interesting than what happened before with his participation. But Adam is forever! I'm following Saint Asonia. Adam sounds like a man! He has grown a lot as an author.

I think Matt is the perfect replacement. Of course he cant sing Adams songs as good as Adam can, but the new stuff is good as well. But I have to say there are just better songs with Adam. Adam is one of the best vocalists we had in the last 20 years. But, Matt really isnt bad or anything, and Im happy that 3DG exists with him
I love Adam. I do. But he left the band. Mid tour. Left them behind. Matt had been around. His brother is in Three Days Grace. He knew the material. A month later, Matt stepped to finish the tour and play for the fans. I have MAD respect for Matt. Matt is the lead singer for Three Days Grace now. Matt is the future. I have been to concerts and trust me ... Adam said some shit about 3DG. I never heard Matt or 3DG slander Adam or Saint Asonia.
Adam Gontier moved to Saint Asonia to be with his brother i suspect in 2015 ironically his brother is also the bass player of the band tbh i think the both switched to be closer to family which is completely understandable
Adam, with that trademark rasp, was the soul of 3DG. Every time I hear Matt sing one of the old songs I feel like I'm in a screwed up episode of Black Mirror.
I'm not going to say that one is objectively better than the other but I will say that Matt has a wider range and that they were able to do more with their sound when he joined the band. All of us love Adam but I think we all have to admit that in retrospect we all knew that that lineup was on borrowed time. I think people still complain because they know Saint Asonia will never be as good as Three Days Grace or as successful not just because of the name Three Days Grace but also because the singer isn't the whole band. Saint Asonia will never have the catchy instrumentals that Three Days Grace have. People are more upset with the band for moving forward without Adam than they are for him ditching them. They put out some awesome music after he left that I could never imagine him singing

I still don't think it's the same and never will be the same without him. But everybody moves on and tries to do something better. Adam is the only answer. The stuff with Matt just doesn't feel the same. At all. Although now that Adam surprised us all and sang a few songs with them to show that the past is in the past, maybe I can listen to the stuff with Matt without feeling guilty, even if it's not the same.

Adam by a landslide. I was at the Shinedown show and had no idea there was a new singer. Boy, was I pissed. It felt like a cover band. Shinedown was amazing so I still left happy. Haven't seen 3dg since. Edit: I should say I like a few of Matt's songs. Not enough to entice me to see them again. I don't even know about the newest album.
I think nobody can replace Adam. I found not just the vocalist changed but so did there sound very fast. I like Matt aswell and I think it would be cool to atleast see Adam be featured for a song since he does have his own band to attend to.
Easily Adam because you can tell Matt tries to replicate certain aspects of Adams voice at certain points in songs and it just won’t ever happen. It’s not the same!

I agree that since Adam left, it is not the same! But Matt is great as well, he has his own style and let’s not forget he literally stepped up and SAVED the band. Is he Adam… no, are they still great…. Hell yeah they are. They even started with a bang, the first album of the Matt Walst era “Human” is a masterpiece, I enjoyed every single track from it!
I agree it’s definitely Adam, and he also showed up recently at the Nashville show and sang the same 2 songs with them. I’ve seen 3DG twice with Matt and I have to admit he’s a great frontman (think Jared Leto). I’m glad I saw them just a couple weeks ago and I’m also stoked to be seeing Saint Asonia next month!
While Adam did do the most work for the band and definitely made it feel nice to listen to all their songs, Matt is at least trying. If people really are still butt hurt about Adam, we can think of it this way. If 3DG couldn't find anyone else they'd just disband like most other bands do. Matt saved 3DG from being disbanded. Remember that next time you might wanna down cast Matt.
Absolutely. The video is not a intention to disrespect or undermine Matt. I absolutely think he is doing a great job at stepping into that role. But as the Three Days Grace fan, I think most people will always want to look back, whether it's this band or any band and always wish they could have back the version that meant the most to them and I think for most people that's the version with Adam. I felt so stupid when I went to the show recently in 2023 and 2024 and thought… that Adam sure does a great job. It wasn’t until looking through song credits on the new album, when I didn’t see his name that I had to google it… they had changed singers 😂😂😂 I couldn’t even really tell 😂😂 I felt like such a Moron

I'm Adam for sure but I've only heard 1 song with Matt. I loved 3dg in about 2010 in middle school just mainly listening to the one x bangers and that's about it, I hadn't kept up with them at all until just 2 days ago and THAT's when I find out dude has left TEN YEARS AGO so now I'm going down the rabbit hole of lore and modern non adam 3days grace music. It's ALOT to take in
It's adam, and it's no contest. By all means, matts a great singer, but when you are the heart of a big band like adam was, there's only so much you can do until you realise you can't replace Adam
I know what Adam went through with drugs cause I was like that to from 2010 to April 5th 2012 I’ve been clean since then but heroin and pills and coke were my main themes and drinking was on outside in front of ppl so they wouldn’t see the issues I was going through it’s not cause I was depressed but cause I was taking meds from surgery and I got addicted to them than once withdrawal hit me that’s when I got worse than that’s when darkness came into my life cause I would think nothing but bad things about myself and everything in life from lying to ppl and stealing from ppl I loved and cared for all cause I couldn’t stop myself no matter how many times I said I could just stop but nope so I want to rehab 3 times but the third time was it for me and since then I focused my life round my kids and everything in my life today so for any addicts out their don’t think u need to end your life cause u can’t stop u can just need to have motivation in your life and that could be anything just make things up as u go to schedule for your days cause the worst thing for any addict is boredom
Glad to hear you got through hell. People that have never been there will criticize, but again. Unless you've walked in, somebody like thats shoes. No matter what the addiction, it's tough to climb out of that hole, especially if it's a deep one, more power to those of us who have risen back to the top. It's not easy. Great video man, I will go with Adam definitely, he is my favorite singer and I think he really dares to try new things, Devaste from Saint Asonia is totally amazing!!! From new 3DG I like painkiller, and the best for me is “so called life” And for all 3DG all albums, yes, One-X What do you think about Saint asonia?
TDG used to be my all time favorite band when I was little. Obviously not anymore but I still look back at the first 3 albums and Adams voice and melodies still hold up. He is the only redeeming factor this band had. The riffs were always generic, the drumming was sufficient but not mind-blowing but Adams voice was amazing! I completely ditched the band when Matt joined because his voice was incredibly generic. I recently saw them live with Chevelle and let's just say If I spent my money just to see TDG I would be disappointed. Luckily Chevelle and Loathe did amazing but TDG was just corny with Matt. It's not that he can't sing in tune or anything, his voice is just bland and his stage antics were mediocre. I hope this band does like blink 182 did and if Adam returns they just give Matt the boot.
If you didn’t know the band members so it’s not a big deal, I grew up on Adam’s voice but i never got into the band story, I usually listen to the music but not becoming a fan, couple years ago I started to use pandora and Spotify, yes, new songs are different from the vocal perspective but music is still their style, so I figured out it’s another vocalist only when I visited their concert. So I would say people just get used to what they like
Adam of course is amazing I grew up with Adam being an 07 baby but I don’t think you have given Matt a fair shake man it definitely took some adjusting when I was listening to to albums in release order when I was really learning who artists were around age 9 or so when I was really getting into music on my own and listening to it outside of the car Matt has dropped some straight bangers with modern 3DG and he’s definitely come into his own with the band while also keeping that iconic 3DG sound
I don’t think it’s who’s better than who. Front man and or singer… they’re two different talented ARTISTS. They’re both great. Adam decided to leave.. so 🤷🏻

With him now out of the picture and somebody else filling those shoes (Matt), It's how do we compare the band now as compared to the one that we grew up knowing and loving with the original lineup. Adam never sold out and never will :) Even 2014 At the Palace in Detroit, Adam his voice is the best rock voice and never uses auto tune, only second mic with treble bottomed anmd BASS maxed.. amazing

I have seen 3DG more times with Matt than I did with Adam, and without a doubt Adam is a better writer, better singer, better performer. Saw St Asonia recently after having seen 3DG a few weeks prior and was so happy to hear Adam sing some 3DG songs. Sounded awesome!
