When I worked in a nursing home here in Germany, I had an old lady whose surname was also Haarmann. And one day another old lady was talking cr*p about Frau Haarmann and said something like "She should be ashamed with a name like that." I was like what the hell, this was SO long ago! The german movie "Der Totmacher(1995)" brilliantly depicts Haarmann talking to a police psychiatrist in 1924. Large parts of the moviescipt are direct copies of the original transcipt. It is hard to came by, but findable and very much worth it. It shows just how human a beast can be - or how beastly a human can be. I know from medical school just how closely swine anatomy is to human. I’ve also read articles about cannibals referring to humans as “Long Pig”, so the detective may have had a head cold but I wouldn’t have been too quick to dismiss his observation of the meat as obviously pork rinds! Admittedly I like pork especially bacon but I have no desire to discover just how similar it tastes to human, I’m satisfied to take the cannibals at their word and leave it at that, thank you very much! Another interesting episode, your channel about old crimes is fascinating! Sincerely, Doc PS, there are 206 bones in the human body, if only 500 remains were discovered, that is an alarmingly large amount unaccounted for, which causes me to wonder if 20 murders is too conservative! Sounds like his room wasn’t just a murder scene it was an abattoir…that gives me the willies!

The "Haarmann-Lied" (the childrens song you've quotet) was indeed very popluar even in my childhood in the 1990s. In fact it was the first song ever I could sing by heart. According to contemporary accounts published in British newspapers, Haarmann left a defiant final statement that included instructions for his headstone. He said that his last meal would be coffee, hard cheese and a cigar, after which he would curse his father and go to his execution as if it was his wedding. (My source for that is "Man Bites Man: The Scrapbook Of An Edwardian Eccentric" by George Ives, a compilation of news clipping from the first half of the 20th century and fascinating in its own right.)

Exactly. He was most likely just a normal gay boy, possibly a crossdresser or even trans, and just wanted to enjoy his life with lovely dresses and girly things he saw all the girls his age were doing too. There's no doubt that the military school abused him, because they're all abusive and always has been. Instead of letting him be himself (or herself, of course), they would have forced horrible tortures on him as a way to "toughen him up." Child abuse like this always ends up destroying the child to the point of murder. While his crimes are horrible and he deserved punishment, the adults in his life who forced torture onto him deserved worse than what he got. They're the ones who made him what he became, and they're the ones who truly murdered all those boys and men. He was an unfortunate child who had his dreams of just enjoying life crushed early, and of course turned cruel from it

So this is hindsight extrapolatation, comparing the appearance of a man who was found to be evil to the appearance of an evil man based on an insignificant physical similarity and an actor who played a fictional evil man. Rethink your processes, this is basic think taken to an extreme.

Well documented. I am just always amazed and saddened when I hear that police swept information under the rug or didn't believe someone who they deemed to be less believable. The women knew. Maybe if they had been given the respect they deserved several other men and boys would not have died in 1923 and 1924 before he was caught.

Well, this is some story. Can you imagine knowing him or living next door to him. This was a very sick man.

Great story, just one thing bugged me. The word preceding means previous in sequence, but it was used at least twice to mean following or subsequent
