I went to a "sensitivity training session" at the bank I worked at. The lecturers told us that people were offended by "micro-aggressions". When we asked what these were they said they were involuntary muscle movements in your posture and facial movement that were used subconsciously and that we should avoid using them because they made some people feel threatened. I/we the class asked how they suggested we control subconscious/involuntary muscle movement and these assclowns just stood up there and gaped at us. I don't know if their brains had just emptied out or no one had ever asked them this before. The class pretty much went downhill from there, and this is all filled with investment bankers on 6 figures who usually manage to tow the company line and keep a straight face during corporate bullshit speak, they gave up and closed the meeting after about 15 more minutes of being roasted with questions. We never heard from them again.

I work in software development. This stupidity is everywhere. Slave gets renamed to replica or agent, master to main, blacklist and whitelist to denylist and allowlist. Doesnt sound like a big deal but everytime a piece of software changes their wording you have to change your code in some way, which can range from "done in 30s" to "we need a series of meetings to discuss the implications of the change"

Its also "dont be polish" bc every every noun and every adjective describing a noun has an inherently assigned gender. A great example is when someone tried ask ChatGPT how to say "non-binary" is in Polish. And Chat replied "'Niebinarny' or 'Niebinarna' depending on the person's gender."

When I was in college I was in charge of a group project that had both men and women and I referred to the whole group as "guys", I said something like "ok everyone knows what to do, let's do this guys". One of the girls pulled me aside and talked to me, she said "hey I know this might sound weird but thanks for saying that, it made me feel like I was one of the guys", she genuinely felt great that I wasn't giving her special treatment. I will never stop using 'guys' to refer to a group of people I'm working with

My buddy works at a large tech company and was telling me about the blacklist/whitelist thing. Asmon is right; these people make these problems so they can "fix them" and when it comes up in a performance review, you can point to it. And they do specifically ask you during your reviews what you've done to "advance diversity, equity, and inclusion".

The gendered language thing is so stupid considering how many international languages are literally based on assigning genders to objects. For example: my Latino friends would rather be called an actual racial slur than to be referred to as "Latinx". Because it insults their heritage by being confusing, it comes off as very demeaning and out of touch

This has been a thing for ages in software development, Master/Slave was pretty much dropped years ago for the connotations.

I would love to see their reaction if they discover that (like in every arcade game that can be paired. no Joke) master and slave were terms used to connect two identical devices back then.

The "do not assign a gender to things that have no gender" is worse than you thought. For example, nearly every European language (other than English, how convenient) has gendered nouns (ex. In German, the words 'the pizza' is Die pizza and is gendered feminine, and 'the cheese' becomes Der käse and is gendered masculine. Isn't this just actual cultural appropriation?

So basically I can't use my native language to write code, subtitles or anything in unreal, cause it is grammatical and wordwise impossible to write names of things, because in polish all nouns have predefined gender and verbs and adjectives are changed to align with noun gender and there are no non-gender forms of them.

I do know in the first part for instance when I was in university in the US we would use a root control for animation sometimes called Master control. When I came to EU for university they basically said that we shouldn't use "Master control" and call it something else so just use root or main now lol. We also would call it the god control, not sure if they dont like that anymore either.

Had one of those meetings before at a company I used to work for. I just chuckled the entire way through, one of the lecturers asked why I was laughing and I was like "Why do YOU get to infringe on our free will, and tell US how to behave? Personally, I'm highly offended that you're forcing me to constrict myself to guidelines, and I feel as though I cannot express who I am to speak my truth." They started to panic, and then the older guys started to catch on and also expressed how these "guidelines" were actually just corporates way of restricting workers into mindless drones, and how they prevent us from thinking freely. It was hilarious to watch these people panic, if we're supposed to be inclusive of everyone, we're supposed to include people who have a difference of opinion, hear their truth, and change the rules to benefit everyone right? One old guy was even called "sir" and hit them with 'did you just assume my gender based on my own physical appearance, and your own subconscious bias to what a MAN is supposed to look like? Isn't what you just did exactly what you're telling us not to do?" Then half of us just walked out of the "mandatory" meeting, went back to work, and we never had one again. The next day all the pride flags around the office, which I didn't have an issue with. Were taken down, no more ACAB, no more rainbows, and guess what HR saw a 60% decrease in workplace reports. Glad I left that company though, a couple years later during Covid it got right back to being political, and it became a major issue.

I work in Europe for a multinational company and we had training on exact these things, these keywords, a few years back. There's some common dictionary that is the source of all of this I feel. The whole company wasted maybe 10 to 20 hours per each person on this.

So basically, don't code using most Latin-based languages, since everything has a gender (furnitures, places, animals, etc)

I'm a programmer and most programming teams share their code with software called "Git"; already way back in 2020 the ppl behind Git renamed the default branch from "master" to "main" bco the word's association with slavery - what a time to be alive, it's like real-life comedy & satire.
