Speak French with Confidence with my 4-step methodology: bit.ly/3qMPU7L
There are SO MANY ways to express one thing. But wouldn't it be great to know the French way of expressing what you're thinking, rather than relying on an English translation? When you live in France, rather than just pass through, you have a richer experience speaking like the locals. And of course, you can't use the local lingo without having heard and understood it (unless you're an actor). Here I go through 5 (of 10) unusual but useful bits of French language that you will hear and can use every day. These aren't necessarily taught in your classes, but some will come up just because your teacher won't know how better to express it!
Part 2: • MORE UNUSUAL BUT USEFU...
Let me know in the comments of any other useful expressions you know of.

It always makes me feel better when I not only get my point across in French but I do it in a uniquely French way. What's your favourite Frenchie saying?

Very engaging, when you were explaining about J’arrive. It made me smile because my mom in law was on her way to ours and she sent a text saying J’arrive, I then ran outside to welcome them, needless to say they were actually on their way! Thanks again Alex.

I use “est-ce que ça te dérange?” (Does this bother you?) very often - and so do my French family. I find it a useful way to check in about what I want to do - like “ça te dérange pas si je fasse la grasse matinée demain matin?” (It won’t bother you if I have a lie in tomorrow?) I always tend to find the person says “no, not at all!!” but it’s very useful for politeness.

Very good examples and explanations. I was reminded of ""s'en sortir" , a good one and quite common in my experience, but I have not used it myself 😎

How long have you been in France Jay?

@@FrenchinPlainSight I wish I could say I was still there. I had gone to school at University of Rouen for one year (I was lucky to be in the advanced American group and was placed in with French students for all courses. A language challenge, but so good for picking it up) Before that we had been in Paris for a month. I've been back to France a couple times. I keep up the language by reading, listening to songs (a good way to remember grammar and GENDER! Learn some French songs by heart; and I watch French films all the time, new and old ones.) Of course there is nothing like living there. I had lived with a French family while in school. They knew very little English and that was also great for me: they had 2 children close to my age. I socialized with them, picked up slang, useful expressions, etc. What you are doing would be a dream for me. It sounds so great....I'm sure it's not easy, but a worthwhile challenge. I'm older than you so I'm pretty much settled about all that now. Learning a second language is one of the best things anyone can do. I also know Italian and some German.

Je me disais que translated word for word means ´I would say that…´ why change the meaning to ´I was thinking ´? Thanks
@jeffreykay2340
@jeffreykay2340 9 месяцев назад
For ´je me demande si je peux acheter ça ´ why not keep the word-for word translation because it makes sense, and why say ´could’ when using the word ´peut ´? Thanks

PLEASE PLEASE DONT FORGET to translate your examples …. Just say it in English. Don’t assume we know and everyone can use repetition no matter how advanced.
