I hear what you are saying. Watching all these successful watch dealers videos at shows, with clients, on the phone with other dealers, all you hear or see are Rolex, AP or RM ad nauseam. Love seeing the complicated, traditional, well made historic watch brands that STARTED the watch industry over a hundred years ago.

Adrian, not all people like RM…doesn’t make them haters if they don’t like RM. You buy and collect what you like. I own a Greubel Forsey and FP Journe so I can afford high end watches but I would never buy an RM…because I don’t like them…not because I can’t afford them.

Many years ago, I was invited to participate in an artist workshop for several weeks in Long Island. Roy Lichtenstein was a visiting artist. He made clear that he wouldn't judge artist's work based on a single example. "I want to understand what you are trying to achieve before I can know how successful you are." Similarly, with a mature watch collection, there needs to be cohesion and purpose.

I love learning about watches that were made in limited production, or for a short period of time. My seiko 6217-8001 is only as rare as it is because it was only made at Suwa for 9 months in 1967 before the manufacturing moved over to Daini.

Icing a Patek is never a good idea. If it is factory, that is better, or a piece like the Timeless Treasure by Jacob & Co which is the Iced out king of all, but it was designed to be that way and it is more of a piece of Artwork. second half of this video is very cool.

I had a Chopard Luc vintage, ultrathin yellow gold, one of the most enjoyable watches to wear but I had to sell it when I parted way with my ex. I couldn't find one for the price I sold it nowadays. 😢 I tried a 1937 Luc classique with intent to buy it was very tempting but I didn't like the date on this particular one...

Rainbow on a lighter metal for sure. White gold, platinum, etc makes the rainbow colors pop more. Yellow or rose gold kind of feels like the case and bracelet are competing for your attention with the rainbow pieces.

Incredible collection and diverse as well. It’s pretty wild how this hobby can draw you in and buying watch after watch and before long you quickly realize you’re justifying spending astronomical amounts started at $200 up to $2m but in his defense he’s made great choices in watches that will retain or appreciate in value but obviously to someone with a collection like this they couldn’t care less about resale How cool would it have been if you could go back to your middle school self balling with your mark echo drip (it was fossil, Casio, citizen and seiko for me and my buddies and tell him one day you’ll be rocking $2million dollar watches. I don’t know if it’s even possible but did I hear you say that some outside guy placed a custom order for 20-30 precious metal rainbow royal oaks do you need to be influential or have done a ton of business with them in the past? Or do you just need to have the money up front? If anyone can place a customer order and have enough money they could make a killing by controlling the markets supply so that means after you leak a couple to the public and wait awhile you could basically name your price I realize that if they have serial numbers black listing is a possibility I’m not sure if the limited production have them or not albeit they will still be recognizable

Also I thought the 10 day power serve was pretty wild innovation still is but I had to know if it was close to being the longest and was even more shocked to see Lange had one that would last a little over a month and vacheron makes one with a 65 day that’s absolutely insane to me albeit the complications are different
