Really very informative video! I would be happy if you could please clarify my doubts 1) How long does it takes to complete a specialist program( laboratory and medical pathology) at UofT 2) Maximum no. Minors we can take with a) major b) specialist program
@kimm-ing2666
@kimm-ing2666 4 года назад
Hello Aditi, thank you for supporting my channel and make sure you subscribe for more content in the future! Specialist programs require 10-14 FCE and LMP specialist at UTSG requires 13.5 FCE for program completion. Most students will complete their POSt requirements in four years. However, there isn't a standard answer to your question because the length might change if one decides to take summer course or take a maximum course load during the year. You can enrol in maximum of three programs (POSt). If you are enrolled in three programs, one must be a minor. possible program combinations: eg. 2 majors + 1 minor, 1 major + 2 minors, 1 specialist + 1 major +1 minor. Note: this is NOT an exhaustive list of POSt combination because it depends on the POSt and # of distinct FCEs for your POSt combination. You should arrange an appointment with your college registrar for assistance, they will be able to look at your ACORN and provide you with academic advise. I also recommend you using the degree planner to assess hypothetical programs you are thinking of completing. Hope this helps, good luck on your upcoming semester! cheers, kim

My advice is to enrol first in courses with fewer space when enrolment starts. cheers, kim.

Hi! Thank you so much for the video, I am going to be a first year at UTSC and the process is so confusing! I've got a question, the program that I want to select at the end of first year doesn't have any specific prerequisites listed, except for the one I am automatically enrolled in. What do I do now? Should I use this opportunity to complete my breadth requirements? I've got one more question (sorry..), if I intend to take double majors next year, should I start looking at prerequisite requirements now as well? Thank youuu
@kimm-ing2666
@kimm-ing2666 4 года назад
Hello Linda, I hope you are doing well! Congratulations on your admission to uoft, im sure you'll achieve great things here! i understand it could be confusing for new students but dw im here to help! Regarding your first question, you should check if there is any 1st year courses you need to complete for your program requirement (go to UTSC academic calendar > choose program > under "program requirement"). Oftentimes, these 1st year courses are perquisites for many 2nd-year courses you need to take for your POSt. You should use the planner from degree explorer, it's useful in figuring out what you need to take. In terms of breath requirement, it comes down to how you feel about your course load because it can be taken throughout your degree. Secondly, I think it's a great idea to look beyond first year as you work on course planning! Ultimately, don't rush/overwhelm yourself because you've got time and it's important to do well in order to get into your program after first year. However, please consult program coordinator and registrar for professional academic advising since I am not 100% familiar with degree requirements at UTSC and I don't want to provide you with wrong info. I wish i could've been more helpful. cheers, kim

Hmm actually, 3 courses each semester (1.5 FCE) would be considered full time, although that’s gonna screw ppl over (super late enrollment times) unless they’re going to 4th year. Nice video tho 👍
@kimm-ing2666
@kimm-ing2666 4 года назад
hello ziyuan, I hope you are doing well. thank you for your feedback and support! Indeed, 1.5 FCE is the minimum course load to be considered as full-time. However, the main message i was trying to convey in the beginning was to explain the "standard" course load that most students choose to follow ie. students (including myself) who wish to graduate in 4 years usually take a full course load in Sept- April academic period. imo there are risks associated with taking 1.5 FCE/semester (might not graduate in 4 years, later course enrolment time for non-fourth year students as u mentioned, affects OSAP funding, cost-effective? and more....) Throughout the process of course/degree planning, I think it's super important to look beyond first year, plan ahead, while taking future goals into consideration (eg. UofT MD program uses wGPA formula for MD program application, so prospective med students must take a full course load in all years of undergraduate study to be eligible for wGPA). of course, everyone has different plans after grad and I understand some students choose not to take a full course load due to various reasons. again, thank you for your suggestion as I see this as a great opportunity for me to create related videos that will clarify unnecessary confusion. good luck! cheers, kim

@kimm-ing2666 4 года назад
You are choosing/enrolling in courses for the full year (fall + winter semester) I didn't take physics bc I don't need them for my POSts. However, you are open to more options if you took physics as some POSts require 1st year physics! It all comes down to what you intend to declare after first year + personal interest (imo) ! I made a video about the courses I took in first year, feel free to watch it (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e8Iw1PrS0L8.html).
