Upcoming CT and Pet Scan | Dealing with Scanxiety Cancer Scan Anxiety

I have my CT and Pet scans coming up to see where we are on my cancer journey and I would like to say I am not worried, but scan anxiety aka Scanxiety is real. I am working on learning how to manage and overcome my scanxiety but this is my first round of scans post treatment and it is hard. I am hoping I will be able to calm the anxiety as time goes on but right now this is how I am dealing with my scanxiety.
I would welcome prayers and positive vibes please that results are positive!

I feel for you Melanie. I have the same situation recently and I have so much anxiety before a scan and after waiting for the results. I will have to do these tests for the rest of my life. My mom had breast cancer and had a double mastectomy and stopped going to her yearly check ups. She lost her battle because of it. Stay strong and keep scanning. You are spot on with the feelings I have.

I understand scan anxiety. I am the cancer patient spouse. I hyperfocus on the PET scans and the cancer marker (CEA). After I read the report I Google words and relationships between the various tests. Seeking some assurance of what the future is. Hang in there.

My son and only child is battling two cancers and he is palliative care…. I have followed you since the beginning and stand in awe of the grace that you are bathed in! So true. The only time my blood pressure goes wacky is when I go back for my mammograms. My faith is strong but I still think about recurring cancer even 14 years out.

While I can’t understand the scanxiety as I am not a cancer survivor, I do work in healthcare, and this channel has been supremely helpful in understanding what my patients are going through when I’m not seeing them. Dear Melanie, I continue to pray for you! We are believing with you. My son had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and went through bone marrow transplant. He suffered greatly but he made it through and hit his 5 year rebirthday a few weeks back! God was so merciful as he is in the minority to survive this type of cancer. Many he met were not as fortunate. He does as you, he lives from day to day in his new normal. Life has changed, but we all have faith and see how far you have come! You can’t tell me that prayers don’t work, you don’t give up! I can tell you are afraid, but all of us are praying really hard for you. My prayer was answered yesterday. Our daughter who has not talked to us for years and years, and was wild, out of nowhere wrote an email to us and told here she has found God. This is the only thing I prayed….”change her God and let her find you.” This is what she wrote. Remember, we are all praying for you so you can be well and happy again.❤✝️

Hi Melanie! I totally understand the truth about Scanxiety. Just did that again in March. I always get very anxious AND irritable, and don’t want to be around anyone, just before the next scan. My diagnosis is incurable blood cancer, and it always has a chance of returning, despite two straight years of treatment. You are also correct about nothing ever being the same once you have cancer. You do not stop worrying about it taking over again, even when you are stable and feeling well. We will have periods of stability and happiness, but we can quickly drop into the dark pit of worry and fear on a regular basis, especially before our frequent scans. I pray for a wonderful report for you, on Friday, and a positive meeting with your surgeon on Monday! ❤️🙏🏼 AND, stay away from your portal! 😂😘

Melanie, you are not alone. Scan anxiety is very real. Two years this month I have survived lung cancer & I am very grateful. You are so strong & brave. Waiting on scans does get better but worry is always in the back of your mind. I have middle back pain too & it can just freak you out thinking what if . Melanie it is hard not to think of all the pains. You have been through an awful lot. Try not to let yourself overthink. Anxiety is a horrible thing. Please just try to stay calm. My son has his scan on the 26th and yes, anxiety is starting to build. The shock of previous PET scan results have taken their toll. I've stopped watching so many channels and vlogs about cancer, the desire to live beyond it's grasp is strong. Sending prayers that god helps this beautiful mommy finds peace, and blesses her with good health from this point. I'm a 70 year old wife, mom and grandmother who has been on this kind of journey with breast cancer 20 years ago. That was not my first battle, for I was born with spine a bifida and had my first back surgery when I was 6 years old. I just had a second one 9 month ago which was a complete failure. The Dr said he could make me feel 80% better then I felt atm. I lead a pretty normal life and could walk but not very far, and now I can't walk without a cane or walker and in way more pain then before. I look forward to your updates and pray you are coping the best you can at th moment.

You really have been through a lot. It's so hard, so hard to find a new normal. My experience quickly, I had a near fatal car accident at work and DOA when the flight touched down. A horrible femur fracture along with other disabling injuries. Being a new mother with trying to adjust has to be hard. Scan anxiety is normal, horrible but normal. All I can say, try to find little things to be grateful for. A pretty dandelion, a beautiful baby smile, just anything. Sometimes it can push out some of the anxiety and dread we live with. I'm 12 1/2 years out and still haven't found a "new normal", I call them seasons. It'll shift, especially with a new baby. If you can, find those little things, a raindrop on a leaf of grass, a rainbow, just anything. I still have to. Bless you and your family. Please please let us know. God is with you all.

Oh, Melanie, I understand so much! I've been there and still are. It's about the hardest thing a person can go through. I'm old now, so the fear is not quite as bad as it was when I had young children. That's the worst! 😢 My prayers and positive thoughts are with you and for you. I clearly hear you on worrying of the unknown, wondering if the ache or pain is a recurrence of cancer. Trust me, I've been there. It does help to keep yourself occupied. Take walks. I'm a 9 year survivor of SCC tumor in the nasal cavity. It was stage 3. 6 rounds of chemo with 2 different chemotherapy drugs and 40 rounds of radiation. I can only pass on what a nurse told me when i was diagnosed in the office that day. She said "God will only give us what he knows we can handle." You'll beat this like i did! Take 1 day at a time. No Mel, the anxiety for the scans or the results doesn’t go away, doesn’t get easier. It’s very real. Take a deep breath and let The air exhale very slowly. when it gets too much - lay it in Gods Hands to share with you - ask him to help you with it! I‘m with ya Mel, we all are- praying and giving you strength patience and love. Keep positive - When the scanxiety escalates, tell baby girl about your home , everything that awaits her there, tell her all of your hopes and dreams - share everything with her, cry happy tears - she loves you with everything she is! Melanie you are such an inspiration, I cannot even begin to imagine what you are going through! Thank you for sharing, that takes a lot of courage in itself. You are always in my prayers and have been from the beginning. Your encouragement and strength in the Lord is such a testimony as to your Faith. God is with you at all times, He will never leave you or forsake you, never forget that. He knows your every emotion and what you are going thru, the good, the bad, the anxiety, every emotion. Scanxiety is real. My husband just got clear scans, 3 1/2 years post diagnosis. The stress builds up and builds up the closer you get. So hopeful for you that you will get clear scans as you move forward farther into your near normal. ❤

When I was told about my cancer, the first thing my husband told me when we left the Dr office was don’t go home and google everything they told you. That will get in your head and stress you out before you have anything done….that was great advice and I never looked anything up. Praying for complete healing for you ✝️⚓️❤️

Melanie, you’re such a brave soul. I’ve sent up a prayer that you get clean scans. So hoping the worst is behind you. I get scan anxiety too, as I think most who’ve ever had or have cancer do. I just pray and go for walks while awaiting for the results. Sometimes I get the results sent to my portal before the doctor appointment and opt not to look at them till the appointment but sometimes I do review them as soon as received…just depends on how I’m feeling in that moment. You handle your anxiety in the way that works best for you and know that scan anxiety is totally normal.

Anxiety is real. I have a PET CT on the 28th too. Unfortunately I have a node in my upper right lobe in my lung that is abnormal. I will pray for you as I do more so on Friday and the 1st. You have so much grace, honesty and courage when sharing. I am grateful to have found your channel. I always feel better after watching you.
