I was so happy to see our little heifer standing up when we revisited her today. I am still very worried about her. I am treating her for scours, but her feces is almost purely hemorrhagic. Definitely a strange presentation outside of my normal calf scours experiences. We will keep you posted!

The wind blows here because it sucks somewhere else. I fell out of my chair laughing. Kansas USA... You know the wind constantly blows in Kansas.

Conversations with animals can be so funny. You're a regular Dr Dolittle! "Hi momma! We're helping!" "mm. .......mmmMM?" (like a "and who are YOU?") "Drink up son!" "MMMMMmmmm!" (agreement moo. she approves) I refuse to believe she didn't have some semblance of what you were doing and saying and reacting accordingly. You're a great vet! Hope I can find someone with your care and love of what you do for my preceptorship ^_^

Long before antibiotics or much of anything to treat scours our old vet taught us to take some colostrum from a fresh cow and mix it with fresh manure from our fattest shiniest cow. Drench with that mix. Looks like that little guy could use a little of that treatment. Or a little cud from a healthy cow. ( Much harder to get!!) Now days there's probably an easier way to get the good bugs into those little rascals !! If it sounds nasty just watch baby calves, one of the first things they do is stick their noses in a fresh cow pie and lick their noses. Colts do the same thing. Nature's way of introducing beneficial bacteria.

@EnochtheCowVet 3 года назад
Hello Mary, colostrum is so very important! This fella received 2 liters of colostrum a good friend of mine had saved and frozen. Thanks for the awesome comment! Foals absolutely self inoculate from their mothers feces, very much like a probiotic, I reckon calves probably are similar, I just hadn’t thought that one through or been taught it! Cheers! Good old natural yogurt is good as well! Thank you!

If we had doctors to care for their patients as he does I mean you can tell his heart is in it. I had a doctor who went on maternity leave her replacement was so obnoxious and to ask a question it was like you slap him like Will Smith they end up closing the clinic cause everyone found other doctor to go to because of his super bad personality !

May i give you a tip? 😶 I think that it's best to invest in a so called 'dead cat'... That's to block wind noice. Since you oftentimes are out in the elements and the microphone can't handle the windy conditions, understanding what you say is no Bueno 😉😊 But I do hope that the calf pulls up out of the down spiraling it took..

@Hannah125i
@Hannah125i 3 года назад
Probably unconcerned about cross-species disease transmission, so preferring not to contribute to local landfill - gloves can take 5 or so years to break down, maybe more. If he thought he may be at risk of anything, he'd wear them. I never wore gloves working with dog blood samples when I was in vet path, but always wore them working with samples in human path labs.

Could it be caused by parasites?
@EnochtheCowVet
@EnochtheCowVet 3 года назад
Brand new calf… too young for parasitism. E. Coli usually strikes within two days of birth, or could be a congenital issue. I will hopefully revisit tomorrow.
