UPDATE: Legion 5i Pro REVIEW UPDATE 2022 12th Gen Intel 

I strongly think the AMD will have better battery life. I have updated everything and triple checked that all software and firmware and bios are up to date. Such a shame. I assume with video playback, editing, photoshop or light gaming it would be even worse. Both units I had, had similar battery life. You could potentially get an apple 140w charger and that does keep it charged during light use, but charges as a pretty slow rate.

I've been really impressed by the quality of the Legion 5 (2021 non-pro) I bought a few months ago, so hopefully these are early production niggles they'll sort out. Your video prompted me to check it over really carefully and it has none of these issues. I've not tested the battery life properly, but using battery saver makes a huge difference and prevents the fan running under with normal usage. It's a Ryzen 5800H with RTX 3070.

How is the fan sound when running on turbo/at max settings, any chance you have a decibel reading on it? Seems like a lot of the 2022 laptops (all brands) are showing to be pretty loud.

In my country(ID) seems the AMD gen 7 lineup will still have insane price. I might lean to Gen 6 5800H-3070 for $1700ish here(its expensive here,yeah ik). Should i just buy or kept hoping for amd one?

Now I'm confused again. I was going to order one today, but was confused BETWEEN 5PRO and non pro. Bothe are currently same price only 4 quids difference and exact same specs like your one. Which one do u suggest?

I don't know if that is actually coil whine. On my legion 5 pro all I had do to reduce the noise was to put pressure on the chassis in certain place

Oh well, I’m awaiting this exact configuration for Monday. Will def check for coil whine and the trackpad. What often happens with new machines is windows having weird indexing tasks going on in the background. Maybe after some time things will sort out and you get constant benchmarks.

Interesting, I got not cool whine at all. On the other hand my Dell XPS 9500 has the worst coil whine I ever experienced.

What do you think I should go with? Asus Rog Strix Scar 15 2022, or this? They seem quite similar, but the Lenovo is noticeably cheaper. It does have its QC issues though. Hmm... 🤔

Lenovo definitely has QC issues like you mentioned in your first video, I've got last year's 5 Pro with the 5800H/3070 and been through a number of problems with their customer service, having it shipped back and forth and in general not using it properly for 5 or 6 months (worst customer service experience I've had for sure), which was due to some screen artifacting, badly placed screen frame, backlight bleed (which persists, they say it's from IPS technology, lol...), after having it shipped back to me again, it seems only backlight bleed is present so I just gave up sending it for repairs. Did you manage to find out what is causing the fluctuation between those CPU scores in Cinebench on your original unit? That is definitely odd. On another note, did I see clearly in the video that you got 164 FPS at 2560x1600p on Ultra in SOTTR? That is insane if that's the case, I get 100 with that resolution and graphics, thought the 3070 Ti would be a much closer match to the 3070. Lastly, I know this is not a benchmarks channel, but could you test AC Valhalla at both 1080p and 1440p? I've tested it on mine with the 511.79 drivers which seem to drastically give me a lot lower FPS than 497.09, I wonder if the 3070 Ti is affected by that too.

Would I be able to add any extra SSD to it? Or it have to have a specific configuration?

Luckily mine has come with almost perfect build quality and no issues, pretty much no light bleed which is the thing I'm happiest about. Guess I've got lucky with this but I'm really happy with it!

How disappointing Lenovo.. I was looking to buy this similar machine myself. Those quality control issues are worrisome for the price consumers are paying for. My question is what other brand would you consider? Asus ROG, Alienware m Series or maybe an Acer Predator Helios 2022 models?

Hmm..I guess look into Strix G17 more... (around same price here), Legion 2022 doesn't seem like will be available here for quite a while... No product registered yet For India (psref lenevo). & Can't be bothered with QC at this price range. & Strix has 16:9 QHD DCIP3 Colour Space but lower brightness ~300 16:10 QHD would have been nice i guess i will make it up with 17.3 inch, 300 nits is fine for my use case. The 6900HX seems to be same performance/price class 12700H My old 15.3' laptop seems to be more or less the same size as G17 so... 😅

I ordered this laptop version but with RTX3050 Ti from the USA, it will arrive next week. It comes with 230 watt adapter which is smaller and lighter than the 300 watt.

Why the result is different is that when you get a labtop of the same modell if you are lucky you can end up with a overclockable CPU/GPU that get a little more power then the other one and that make the system special but it can happen to that the system screen not good or the build qualty is bad it can happen to that you get a replace model of the same model but it dont have the overclockable CPU/GPU and the screen is perfect and the qualty is best. Its also rare to finde a perfect labtop with the best overclockable CPU/GPU and good qualty of the same model of a labtop

Hi you should do the shadow of the tomb raider test with dlss off and at 1080p highest settings as most other reviewers test at that setting for better comparison

Have you switch the dedicated GPU to intel Intergrated GPU? Lowered the refresh rate on the display? Edit windows power plan settings to use battery saving mode? There is an option in the charging and battery section i believe to decide how much processor power the laptop is using. One more thing. On lenovo legion, people have found out that the Main battery drain actually comes from RGB sofware. Specially lenovo legions Corsair ICUE rgb software, uninstall that piece of crap software.

Thank you for the review Can you update the drivers and firmware and see if the battery life stays that bad?! It's a shame, I was really planning for buying the 2022 Legion for university. However, 1 and a half hour battery life doesn't even cover 1 class duration at uni :( and I have to carry that humongous charger with me all the time. I wonder if the AMD version is better ( I lose thunderbolt 4 but heck at least it can survive more than a hour on battery)

You should use hwinfo to check what component is drawing how much battery and also the overall drain rate in watts. I have Legion 5 '21 (amd r7) and I get between -12w & -13w during general use (browsing, youtube, music, etc) and I get between 4-5 hours of use (makes sense since I have a 60Wh battery and 60/12=5). Note: When not in active use the nvidia gpu should report '0' for all values in hwinfo, including power.

I had mine for two days and called Lenovo now to return it. Battery life is horrible. Even with all energy saving modes on (quiet mode + hybrid auto mode with completely turned off/ejected GPU) you can see the battery drop constantly. Lost 10 % within 25 minutes sitting in Explorer or Discord chat doing nothing. What annoyed me further more is that there is no fan control. The fans kick in at 36 degrees and you reach this within a few minutes of browsing. LegionFanControl and other methods from last year worked only with AMD and not Intel. I do not get why you can’t have a zero fan mode so that the fans only kick in when the system reaches 50-60 degrees so you can do light tasks completely silent. Speakers are still mediocre. Build quality was good for me though. I may look into the AMD variant later but I am thinking a Zephyrus G15 would be better for me.

Can you please download HWinfo and post PL1 and PL2 values from 12700h in performance mode? It seems that there is a "bug" that the preinstalled Windows is limited to 95W PL1 and 115W PL2 .. after installation of W11Pro with original source not recovery BS i had 115/135W and get easily 18600... with 95W limit i only get around 17300. Also the fan seems to be somehow affected because i dont have any problems with the fan. What is true... NO usb-c power supply works with this laptop. I tested Dell 130W, Apple 140W, 100W Noname, HP Dock 120W, Apple 96W, Lenovo 95W ... all dont work and are limited to 60-65W.. Also if you use USB-C the TDP is jumping around like hell which give you the results you showed in the video. With disabled Turbo Boost it works waaaaaaay better. With disabled turbo and only iGPU on battery i get 5-6 hours battery life with full brightness doing only office task and webbrowsing. Video playback gives me around 3-4 hours... With less brightness on Display it may last longer.

Maybe is that Flash Sale thing. Maybe They do flash sale at the lunch of a new product to get rid of the units that have faults for less? and hoping customer will accept them if not they will replace. I was Just about to order that but i didn't due to that video. So thanks for saving me £1600 :-) i think i will stick to my 2018 macbook pro and upgrade my desktop pc instead.

DDR4 is as fast or faster than DDR5 still. You can get 64GB for £250 and 32GB for much less than that. No need for a DDR5 upgrade. Check comparisons online.
