Some additional info on source/availability would be very much appreciated - this is the same core system as used in the +2010MY cars (different GUI obviously), so would love to know if the supplier has that option...
Thanks for that info@@L663 very helpful. I spoke to the guy and I'm one of the unlucky ones with the 2010-2012 system that currently only LR can update for €450. From 2012 onwards it changed and can be done like your one, pre 2010 it's DVD... The 'joys' of LR ownership :(

You don't have to have the car running for 3 hours to update it, I updated mine over 4 separate journeys, as long as you leave the thumb drive in the connector it will just pick up from where it left off, and yes when it's finished take your thumb drive out and lock the car and let it go to sleep.
Yes - I agree that letting the update run as you drive is the best way - as long as you dont need the nav on your drive ( or use google maps on your phone for those trips )
For me I like using Sat Nav especially for fuel, local restaurants whenever I am travelling or overseas, for that it’s actually priceless. Your phone is a good options but in my opinion it can be limited to what it finds, in a local vicinity. The factory fit Navigation has much more depth to its capabilities. So going back to your original question, it’s worth every penny, even just for the fact that it has the new roads, and updated details such as one way systems, etc.
@@TeeGoRex thank you this info i have a 2011 d4 and to be honest the sat nav is not that good i tend to use google or tomtom on my mobile but if i can get a update i will but im not going to pay £170 its just too much for me to use every now and again thanks again for your feedback
fester Adams Totally agree with you... However I do believe that the update on your model year vehicle would be much less that what I paid. It maybe worthwhile looking into the prices Land Rover are currently charging. As I find the Previous model vehicles tends to be the ones with the special pricing applied to bring you back into the fold.
The real amazingly bad thing is that despite the media unit can connect to the internet via phone, those rocket scientists from the IIT at LR did NOT manage to figure out adding an IP stack on the car that could pull all this over the internet....🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️....just sitting in my car and watching the update "..."

Hello, and thank you for the video, very infomative. 2016 RR here and i am considering an update, once 2021 maps come out. Did you see any noticeable difference or updates, is it really worth it on an apparently old system like that, or best use a navigation app on your phone?

Is it possible to change the Traffic Sign Recognition region? I import my Car from US and I use in the region where the sign is the same as the one that use in UK
heyy !! need info regarding maps for indian region, for the L494 Sport as i have a SE variant and i didnt get the navigation and the dealer is unable to procurre it when asked and he now claims it has to come all the way from UK ad he cant make a request for it, and Im in dire need of maps. is there any way you can help me with this ? will be thankful for it

Are you putting it in the correct USB ? I have not heard of the USB update - you could take it to a dealer and ask them to update all your modules and see if this helps
When the system wanted to shut down could you not have just started the car for a minute and that would have reset it. Or maybe not. Useful video though. Maybe saved someone having a stroke when the naps didn’t appear.
Yes we were somewhat restricted as we wanted to do the video indoors with the battery charger connected - but as we concluded this may not be the best way to do it !
Hey, I am facing since two weeks the issue that my map ist lost. I see everything on my system and the position as well as the street is located fully correctly but no map is visible. Instead of the map a black screen appears. Does anyone had this issue aswell? Does updating the map solve this? Would be great to get remarks on this as the dealer told me to come for an inspection that is massiv costing (21 pages inspection plan on this from LR). I just forgot to mention that I am driving an LR 4 from Nov 2015 (2016 model). The link to purchase the update at 120 GBP is serios, or? Thanks a lot if someone could help!
I have not seen this problem before - search the forums - but i did have a problem on my Nissan Navara recently - see recent videos - and i updated the map software. As you say the GPS is clearly OK as it has your location - make sure you move to a new location and test this as sometimes it stores the last location
Hi I have a l405 2014 have just the black screen on my nav also after having a car play box fitted. The box was faulty so couldn't be fitted but I think it has done something to the screen as maps are Intermittent. Could you advise what you think the fault would be in head unit or screen circuit board ?
Did you manage to fix yours? I have the exact same issue . Black screen and map shows occasionally. Driving me crazy trying to find out what the issue is.
@@markalufc I actually found a solution for mine. A local Range Rover indy garage did a Nav Software update for me. It fixed the issue and has worked well ever since. The CarPlay unit definitely did something to it which is why we needed to do the a software update. I paid $175 and it is worth every dollar !
