UPDATED FOR 2021: How to Write a Story in Medium

I am writing for Medium for at least a couple of years and I haven't even thought that there is a such thing as "subtitle" when you click the "T" button. Seriously, was not aware about it at all. I've typically added the subtitle later (during the "publish" phase"). Great tip!

Hi, Zulie. I just wanted to say titles should go in upppercases because that’s the norm for the English language. It’s not a Medium preference, it’s the proper way of writing in English. Regarding prepositions, it is actually a rule to lower case words that are 3 words or less, such as “and”, which is not a prep :). Regards!

Hi, im new to medium! Can we really earn from medium?

I was under the impression Medium doesn't like previously published articles and yet you've mentioned here linking your article to your blog if you've published it on your blog too. That's great news you can link your article but I'm just a little confused of what is or is not allowed on Medium on the subject of previously published material. Surely Medium would prefer original content wouldn't they? 🤔 I took a bit more notice of medium a couple of years ago when Google searching my photography from Pexels (I'm interested to see how people use the pictures or art) it lead me to a few writers of poetry who had used my images... as a writer and narrator of poetry I'm now curious as to how well poetry does on Medium. I can see in terms of claps it seems reasonably popular, but does Medium consider poetry something they will pay a writer for, or is it considered a bit too short compared to an article? Also, is it best to only publish poetry, or just articles, or have a mix of content? I would like to publish some poetry, various articles on life in general or writing and also post information about photography and why I choose to make my photography available to use for free (that's a very over heated subject with a lot of photographers!) But would that be seen as a little confusing on Medium to have such a mix of content? I think I'll be saving your videos about Medium in a playlist, because I probably need to watch and rewatch them all to get my head around how best to use the site. Though, i have some questions: I noticed that when I clicked the button "add to publication" 'no publications available' popped up! Do you know the reason why i don't get the list of the piublications like shown on your video? Do I have to add any publications to publish my story or I can just push the button "Publish" when it is ready? Do I have to click somewhere in order to get paid from medium?
