I think it’s about $30 too much. It’s a lot of effort to reverse engineer something and then take that and manufacture a device and write code to emulate it. Then support it with firmware updates etc. They deserve a good chunk of change.
If it was an option when buying your new car, you’d be paying $200-$400 and not even thinking twice about it. How is the audio delay on video? I know Bluetooth typically has a lag where the audio is out of sync with the video.
I finally got mine to connect to my C8 and love it! Every time I get into the car now it automatically connects and it's been worry free. I think it's a little overpriced for what it is but overall I'm glad to have it. The 2021 C8's come with wireless Carplay and it's a shame that this didn't dome on the 2020 models but it is what it is. This at least brings me up to the newer version of what GM offers.

Its over priced for sure. most i'd pay for a wifi adapter for carplay for my truck is $50. i have wifi lights in my house for $25 and this seems to have a little more in depth software and coding behind it. $50 should be tops. Don’t buy, it doesn’t work. Setup was great and I updated to latest firmware but it was all downhill from there. Device is very slow to connect on startup and then drops connection frequently. When it does work it is very slow. When using the phone it has a delay that is so bad it is unusable. Save your money.
I would pay $160 alone to be able to CLOSE the little compartment by the shifter where the carplay USB port is... buying this right now. Having wireless carplay in our other vehicle is so nice - I miss it on my car especially on short trips. I find myself using carplay less in my car because of the hassle of dealing with a wire everytime I get in and out.
Good review....Got one of these CapPlay2air on sale during Black Friday for $99 US.... Still a lot of money I know!! Appreciate your insight into the shipping taking a long time... It helped set expectations for me. The other portions of your review were good and I'll let you know if this functions as well in my Audi Q5.
Doesn't seems to be a rip off as really there are only a few of this adapters out for sale and this seems to be the only one that actually works fine. As more of this get created and get more reliable or cars actually start adding wireless carplay as an option this will get cheaper. I have a 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia and I hate having cables around, more like my OCD than anything but is a gadget I love. Now is actually cheaper as is only $129.
Thanks for the review! I did buy one of these dongles and have yet to get it connected. The first time I tried briefly it took forever to recognize my system and I basically gave up as I didn't have the time. I plan to try it again, but having a new C8 Corvette, I looked at this dongle as a means to keep my phone in the wireless charging pocket and still be able to have my phone connected to Apple Carplay. Unfortunately Chevy will be offering wireless connection and it's a hardware not software thing that will prevent 2020 C8 owners from getting through OTA push. This dongle will take care of that issue I get it installed. Hate connecting to charging cords etc... Oh, per your video and the connection, each car will show up in the Bluetooth as a name specific to car make or brand. Yours was Volks I believe and mine for my car 'Chevy' and a few digits.
It would be interesting to know how your phone would deal with a modern wireless carplay in terms of lag/latency/delays and then compare to the older VW wired-carplay with the carplay2air.
Wireless CarPlay without wireless charging has little value imo. Maybe if they bundled this dingle with a wireless charger, I’d be willing to spend some money. Plugging in your phone isn’t $160 hard
I’m currently looking at a wireless CarPlay solution not simply for convenience, more so that my phone isn’t on charge all the time it’s plugged into the car, and over time damaging the battery health.
Anyone else get a 1-2 second delay when changing songs? (Precious/next song) it doesn’t matter which method of changing songs I use, I still notice the delay (using steering wheel control, head unit and phone) I don’t see the delay if I use the lighting cable connected to the car.

Too much money being that my car already has CarPlay. It also took too long for your phone to even connect. For that price I’d need for it to connect immediately.
I would pick one of these up just to save battery health when using car play: I use it a lot and with my old phone i lost over 20% in one year because of it (an iphone 12 pro, not some old phone)
@@TheCenterLineAuto that is literally better: battery degradation happens mainly when a device is charged too much, i drive a lot (sometimes even 10-12 hours) and keeping my phone plugged in the whole journey is very bad for battery
Ah I totally misread that. I thought you were talking about battery draining with usage. You’re totally correct about battery life and capacity. Since it’s not being plugged in/used all the time it should help with overall battery capacity/health.
hi, connecting with2020 audi mmi plus. i have iphone 8 with ios 12.4 and dongle firm is the latest. listening to music with apple music getting like 2 sec delay when i skip songs (to me not perfect but bearable), when using waze/maps/google maps all looks good - BUT...navigating and listening to music TOGETHER.......too many music disconnection and also cracking sound (impossible to listen to that) and the map colors get real weird. im not sure if that has to do with my ios ver. trying to contact the company...they did not respond yet. ***** anyone suffers that same?
you do realise IF this was an Apple product it would still be made in probably the same or a similar factory with identical circuits? Maybe they would make it white plastic so it would stick out like a sore thumb.... Mind you I love Apple products, oh and it would cost way more. Because it would say designed in California.
@@TheCenterLineAuto There is a significant delay while on a phone call. Music is fine as you will not notice the delay. Sometimes Spotify will cut off at 10-sec mark on every song. Other times it will work. Steering control etc will work. For me, the delay in phone calls was a deal-breaker. Customer support does respond but they have no solution to the problem. The technology is out now and hopefully, there will be a version 2 that will be better.
would it be an issue if i buy it now for my current phone, then installed it again to the new iphone 12 when it comes out? just making sure if it has a reset setting.

I’m no music quality aficionado so I probably am not the best person to comment on audio quality. Also not sure if it works with aftermarket systems. Their website only lists factory systems from what I can see.

Hey since your a finance dude I have an 09 a4 prestige it’s in very beautiful condition but I want something newer/fun I’m thinking an s4 b8.5 or an s3 2017 and up or a b9 s4 cpo but it’s so expensive I make 2k a month I’m 18 what should I do I don’t wanna be making huge payments on a 40k s4 I was also thinking a fully loaded a4 2018 but those are hard to find any suggestions I’m an Audi fanboy so no I won’t consider any other brand
So I would recommend sticking with the car that you have or going with a b8.5 S4. This isn’t a knock on your age or anything, but if I knew what I know now when I was 18 I would have done things a little differently. Try to stay away from depreciating assets as much as you can. A B9 S4 still has a ton of room to depreciate whereas the b8.5 has probably already had most of that taken out of it. I’d also recommend putting some of your income into a 401k if you haven’t already started doing so. At the age of 18, time and compound interest is the biggest asset that you could ever have. If you start now and stay consistent, you’ll have a ton of money in the future. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you and sorry for the novel.
I bought the carplay2air which was great when it worked, which was most of the time. Then it just stopped working. I contacted the company who asked me to send them a bunch of videos of what wasn’t working, which I had to upload to youtube so they could view it (what a hassle). They couldnt give me any advice on how to fix it so they asked me to send it back (I had to pay for shipping). When the second one arrived, that one also didn’t work. They say they won’t replace it again. Bunch of pricks have taken my money and screwed me over with this POS! Not happy 😡🤬
