Just wanted to point out that Boneyard Lurker is already included in the Otrimi precon and that Pernicious Deed does not work with Unbound Flourishing because it's activated ability only gets copied. So the value of X stays the same. Nontheless a great video and some interesting includes for sure.
Elusive Tormentor is one I'm excited about - not about the 4/4/ for 4, but about its transformed state of Insidious Mist. Tormentor transforms discarding a card, which we can get back with Otrimi if we discard a mutate card, and its flip side has Hexproof, Indestructible, and can't block/be blocked. If you mutate something over it, the resulting mutated creature is almost impossible to deal with - and is no longer limited by the base power/toughness of the original card (which is 0/1).
Honestly what I'm gonna do with this deck is take it apart and make two separate decks. The first being a 5-color Mutate Deck with all the Apexes and the best Mutate cards of the set helmed by Surgeon Commander (and Child of Alara for the pods that won't let me use him because he's silver bordered). The second being an X focused Sultai deck probably helmed by the Hydra Legendary already in it.
Exactly what I have done with my mutate is 5 colour with RAMOS THE DRAGON ENGINE as my commander. An have flash mechanic with lot of hard to kill creatures to mutate onto
I've been thinking of grabbing this precon cause Mutate seems so neat. How good is it put of the box and how much will I have to spend to make it better?
The new polukranos works well in this deck being able to recur itself be a host for mutations and the counters stack on otrimi's base 6/6 for a possible 12/12 or 18/18 that can just remove a creatures by fighting them
But...what cards to take out!!! I've been staring at this deck for an hour and I can't decide what to remove to add in some of these cards that benefit from "X" cost spells and creatures!
Unfortunately, sets are set up a couple years in advance typically, so if something is popular we aren't likely to see it again for a few years. Exceptions would be if a mechanic is turned evergreen or is so massively popular they force it into something, but even then isn't likely.
One main thing people don't speak on when it comes to assasins trophy is that you don't only instant speed get rid of a permanent but you also shuffle their library which can mess with decks that manipulate the top of their library ruining certain wacky plays they're setting up 😂🤘
