We made the most of the winter to tackle some of the boat work that would have been a lot more difficult while we were living aboard. During two trips to Brixham we worked on running cables for and install a new high output alternator, as well as making some other upgrades to our electrical system to keep it cool during our next season of cruising.

You guys looking for those cables made me laugh as it brought back many memories from my time living on boats.

Ah, the classic "lose the drill bit down the hole" part of projects 😂

Can’t decide if I like it more or less than the “drop something in the sea” part of outside projects 😅

Top tip for pulling anything through conduit. Tie some string to a plastic bag, and “suck” the plastic bag through the conduit with your handheld Dyson. I promise it’s a game changer!

Nice, I'll have to give it a go! Are you ever worried that the bag will get stuck somewhere?

@@DelfinoDiscovers I tore up a carrier bag to a size I thought appropriate for the conduit. Tie the string around the middle of the bag so the “tails” of the bag are sucked first into the pipe. You can trial with a small piece of conduit first. If the string is light, a tiny piece of bag will work fine. Then pull a bigger string with the light one.

pipe/hose + string + cotton ball + vacuum cleaner = no yellow rod

I feel your pain. I lost a ring spanner behind the headlining on our last boat. Still there 3 years later when I sold her.

Seems to be the way. Once we chartered a small yacht in Barcelona and I swear there was a dozen screws rolling around in a void underneath the bed

Looks fun lol..could you not have just run the mouse string in the conduit or even the cables before you installed the conduit rather than pulling in situ?

I do enjoy a lot of the boat projects 😅 I could've run the string for sure, but not so sure about the cables. Getting those conduits or large hoses in place takes quite a bit of wrestling (at a certain point in the video you can see that I have to pull it through in a specific way). I wouldn't have wanted to do that with a bunch of heavy copper cable inside the conduit as well!

@@DelfinoDiscoversI feel your pain! Just running a 50mm cable for windlass through corrugated conduit and its not fun eh lol

I have an array of magnets for retrieving dropped tools. You can get quite creative with them sometimes. 😄 I like the look of that suction pump. Would you mind tell me the make of it?

We sadly didn’t have a strong enough magnet to get it back out, we did try with the one that came with our mousing set but it was way too weak. The pump is this one from Amazon (the 500ml version) www.amazon.co.uk/SMOTIVEPRO-Suction-Automotive-Transfer-Capacity/dp/B08W4CS2Z9?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1N2IL57N5NKRO

That's a very tidy yacht... That's the biggest syringe I've ever seen... How did the water get into the cavity in the first place...

It’s right next to one of our water tanks that has been leaking and the bilge so hopefully it’s that and nothing more serious!
