Upgrading my Interior Trim! - Carbon Fiber Wrapping my MK6 GLI

The MK6 VW GLI interior trim needed an upgrade from its stock trim. I completely refinished the original silver trim then wrapped it in a high quality carbon fiber vinyl! This video will show the start to finish process from filling in the grooves with plastic epoxy to painting, sanding, then finally wrapping the trim.

Looks great! I also did a carbon fibre wrap on the interior trim in my 16 GLI. That piece by the headlight switch is a real pain in the ass to get off for whatever reason!

Dude, it has so old look ) Sorry, but those old 2D carbon wrap was popular more than 10 years ago ) You should use 5D carbon or newest forged carbon film!

Nice job! But it's not necessary to paint them first. I've done 3 Jettas with no issues.....the trim in my jetta now is wrapped is gloss black.....You want a challenge? Wrap the trim around the head unit....

Did you have to sand down/fill the plastic trim before gloss wrapping? I want to gloss black interior but I don’t want the textured plastic showing through. I considered purchasing the carbon trim stickers to lay over the top of the plastic and then gloss black over the top for a clean finish 🤞

I did. I sanded it down, filled the grooves with an epoxy, then sanded it again with finer grit before painting. After you paint you can do a wet sand to get a very smooth finish before polishing

I got the roof rack from a VW dealer. VW stopped making them so they’re harder to find. I got the Thule air faring at REI

i'm just curious, why did you spray paint it if you just wrapped it after?

Purely because I wanted a more “finished” product underneath the wrap

@@kylebward I’m not too knowledgeable about carbon fiber, so like, if I spray paint something pink, and then put the carbon fiber on, will it be pink? 🤔

@@xiaqpaix4 since this is a carbon fiber vinyl wrap it will completely cover the pink spray paint and you wouldn’t see it. With real carbon fiber it is dependent on how many layers you epoxy on top!
