There’s been so much rain this past summer, I figured why not make a rain walk video? Manhattan is always a good location to film and the Upper East Side has lots of nice historic buildings, so off I went. But, of course there were challenges. First, I get out of the train and it had stopped raining. I proceeded anyways, over to check out the 59th Street Bridge and get a shot of the Roosevelt Island Tram going by. Then around the lower York Avenue area I thought to myself “this isn’t a rain walk”. So I stopped filming and just walked around. About an hour later, the rain started drizzling and then it came down pretty good. This was when I was up around E68th Street by Hunter College. So, back to making the rain walk video…but NOW of course, random gusts of wind would blow the rain straight at the camera and hit the lens, since certain blocks have like a wind tunnel effect. Hence, water droplets on the screen. But hey, it’s an accurate added detail to what’s happening right? My route was pretty haphazard, just zig zagging around trying to capture the nicest architecture. I stayed mainly in the Madison, Lexington and Park Avenue vicinity, with a little bit of 5th Avenue also, to showcase the wealthy, historic architecture that’s abundant around there. Plus, you can see The Met and the Ukrainian Institute. The footage came out better than I expected, even with the rain blowing in from every direction. You get a very accurate depiction of walking in the rain around this prestigious area.
There’s much more to see than what I filmed, so I’ll revisit the area on a dry weather day and cover more ground. The Upper East Side, sometimes abbreviated UES, is a neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, bounded by 96th Street to the north, the East River to the east, 59th Street to the south, and Central Park and Fifth Avenue to the west. The area incorporates several smaller neighborhoods, including Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill, and Yorkville. Once known as the Silk Stocking District, it has long been the most affluent neighborhood in New York City.
