It's very disconcerting to know that I have clothes in my wardrobe that I bought new in the 80's, that would now be considered vintage! 😂 I wish they still fit me. My oldest dress that I wear a lot, which still fits me, is a maternity pinafore dress that I bought when I was pregnant with my daughter - she will be 30 in July! It's just so versatile.

When I go to outdoor events where you might sit in the broiling sun in the South (such as a Scottish festival), I’m grateful that my ancestresses instilled in me a desire to shade my head with an umbrella. My daughter looked at me oddly when I pulled out an umbrella until I opened it over our heads and, voila! Shade! I know all those other hot people were jelly...

OMG, I NEEED to make a Steampunk themed carriage parasol! A tram does count as a carriage, doesn't it?
@catherinejustcatherine1778
@catherinejustcatherine1778 3 года назад
It is certainly public transport.
@saymyname2417
@saymyname2417 3 года назад
Yes, a tram is an electric carriage for mass transportation. And since these modern age carriages have quite big windows the sun may be hot and also blinding at times. A parasol is, therefore a great thing to have even for a short distance travel. I am not sure how your fellow travellers would react if you open the parasol inside the tram, though...
@johannageisel5390
@johannageisel5390 3 года назад
@@saymyname2417 I knew it! I have already carried a fan in a tram in hot summers. Time for the next step. Oh, with a small carriage parasol, you just need to be a bit cautious to not hinder/bother/poke anyone. A large parasol would be extremely awkward to open in a tram of course.
@saymyname2417
@saymyname2417 3 года назад
@@johannageisel5390 - I, too have a fan in my backpack in the summer time. It's a cheap, ugly thing for one buck from a Chinese store but these work wonders! And yes, a small parasol is ok imho if the teain is not too full but still Idk if people understand it's against the sun.

That black velvet skirt is going to be so very perfect for the autumn and winter. Plus when it gets close to Halloween, all it would need to be a rocking Elphaba closet cosplay would be a black shirt and hat. I'd love to see the edits to previous projects - I think it is really hard to find examples of how people have fixed or tweaked things to get the fit perfect sometimes. And that is something I would like to improve on in my own sewing.

The skirt reminds me of something I got when I was very first getting into steampunk back in 2012 and i just needed a long skirt. I found a long skirt at Goodwill that was wayyy too long for me in a size 6. Cut off the top part, got rid of the zipper, added wide waistline elastic, and there you have a size 20! Far from historical and I do wash when necessary instead of dry clean because it's polyester so I don't want to spend money on it!

When I was in my 20s, I found a corduroy skirt that my aunt wore when she was in her 20s. She had a 24 inch waist, I did not, but, it had 4 small pleats and I was able to stretch the waistband to 28 and a half inches! I loved it ! Wore it for several years, until I got married and had my first baby. Sadly I have never seen 28 and a half inch waist again. Oh, well, wonderful memories, cause I looked fantastic!
