Per Lek, they can only keep her till she gets better, at which time she has ro be returned to the owner who allowed her to starve, endure horrific injuries to her head due to a hook & God knows what else. The woman asked Lek to save her & return her when she's better. Lek agreed (out of the kindness of her heart). This is an utterly frightening situation. Heartsick!

You don’t want to see the videos on the abuse elephants go through by their owners to make them do what they want them to do to earn them money 😡it will makes you sick to your stomach😥, the cruelty by some heartless humans😡😢🥺

@Bored Lady The stories of what actually happened vary among her owner & others so Lek isn't sure. She WAS severly malnorished though, part of which was due to the fact that the woman couldn't afford to feed her appropriately.

@@mariebrady8475 Agreed. I made the mistake of watching part of the horrofic "training" (torture) process. The agonizing methods used to break the spirit of these poor young animals is beyond imagination. It clearly explains the surrender of these magnificant animals to domination.

@@vblackwell3347 it was on not a mistake watching that video. It takes pure courage and compassion to look at such horrors. Once the darkness is seen than one can take that strength to in act the change that is needed. If only everyone had the courage to look at the horrors.

Indeed. Not wanting to sound negative or to present more work for the team but it will help if quality of audio can be monitored and adjusted in the moment of recording. It's very frustrating as many of us out here are hanging on your every word, you good people, so this is meant as a kind and constructive criticism. Thank you very much. We are following the lives and stories of these wonderful creatures just like we would a gripping series on the telly or a great book that you cannot put down. What I'm saying is ... that we are invested in this because we are all of us growing to love these elephants.

I have had difficulty finding a video that explains, but as I understand it, she was attacked by a bull (elephant?) and she fell and was lying on her side and also not eating prior to her rescue. She has wounds (not infected) from the attack, pressure sores (like bedsores) from lying on her side, a dislocated joint and fractured bone, and severe malnutrition. She also has wounds on her head, face and ears, from the elephant hook used to direct and control her. She was a working elephant, possibly dragging trees or other heavy hauling.

I was wondering the same thing because it looks so extreme and even after a couple weeks she was still favoring it. I’m curious if Lek and her team of health care providers think this will ever be restored to what it was before that fateful injury. Let’s all pray extra hard for Mai Mai. I can’t imagine what her life was like before Lek rescued her. I’m grateful the other wounds and healing but her right back leg is very concerning. I hope I am overreacting and that she experiences the miracle she deserves. God bless everyone caring for her, praying for her and financially keeping this glorious place solvent. 🙏🏼

There's got to be a specialized vet somewhere in the world that can help this poor elephant. I hope one will come forward out of love and help this poor abused elephant. She must be in so much pain. She needs surgury to repair her leg. Maybe someone could come up with a lift of some sort that can lift her back legs off the ground for a while and get the weight off both legs and relieve some of the pain she must feel. Her left back leg is suffering too from trying to hold all the weight. Thank you to all of you there who are there for support, love and care of these animals. God bless you all!
