I grew up in Edinburg in the 1950-60's. Highway 83 at the time was a three lane from Harlingen to Mission and was called the longest main street in America . The middle lane was for passing going in either direction. Needless to say there were a lot of head on wrecks.
I stayed there for a little bit once in my life. South Padres Island is GREAT on beach 5 with a girlfriend late at night romantically. Overall Mission, McAllen, Pharr, and Brownsville are great, peaceful, and friendly. Always growing and always something to do. To live a mediocre life and raise a family with love, warmth, and laughter is here all the way. Take it from me especially. If you ever have a chance to live here TAKE IT! Don't miss out or mess up the opportunity. Live long and live happily. See Ya!
One could confuse this for being in Florida, with all the palm trees lining the freeway. Neat stuff. The people demand that you release another video soon, kind sir!
I lived there from childhood to 28 now that I visit it has grown so much that I get lost because my landmarks are gone and new buildings have popped up but it’s still where I call home and I’m 62 now. Go Bears 🐻
The freeway is a lot quicker once you get to Mission. It does speed up travel time going to Brownsville & South Padre Island. I just wish the freeway went all the way to Laredo & intersected with I35. Its been 13 years since my last trip down there. & back then it was about 6 hours from where I live. I love looking at all the palm trees when I'm in that area as well as the beach.
Another great video!!! Good to see the McAllen area again! Been a few years since I've been down that far! Keep them coming!!! 5 stars and 2 thumbs up again! Mark in Iowa.
Finally getting around to watching this, in full. This video made me think of just how vast Texas' freeway network really is, and how many population centers the state has to serve. That was a pretty nice interchange with US 281; always wanted to see what this freeway looked like, since it's highly doubtful I'll ever get down there.
Its been 3 years since the last time I went down there...US83 freeway eastbound starts in Penitas and goes all the way to the international bridge in Brownsville
You may think that mcallen is big but its actually connected to many cities like the DFW metro plex but just a little smaller making that region really high with residence
If u mean the old bridge near downtown brownsville yeah but at los tomates there building a new bridge next to it which will hurry traffic 8 lane bridge possible
Ps traffic is terrible for real during 5pm to enter us 281 is terrible when comming from mcallen its all holded up from jackson exit but nice vid luv it i was in mcallen last friday
I miss when the RGV used to look like this and you could drive so easily to places. Now it’s ridiculous and I avoid the Highway. It’s growing too fast and construction will never be enough.
