We return to the Ardennes forest and find evidence of the German attack that happened here 75 years ago. Clear traces of this armoured attack are still present in these woods today. The US troops got ambushed and had to fight back hard.

About it. Im his youngest son at 50. He would be 100. Now. Hope they all get to rest in peace now. , my wifes dad is still with us in good shape at. 94 yrs old. He was tail end of ww2 last 6 weks or so. With big red 1 , then stayed as outside door honer guard at Nuremberg trials

I fully agree. Last year I gave one of my grandsons my metal detector as I no longer use it. I also gave him some of my finds from way back in the 70's. They were ww2 stuff like we see here. The only difference is they were found on English soil. possibly dumped as excess after the conflict but may also have been at some point, in the possession of the local home guard . They were scattered in a ploughed field in Bedfordshire, Arlesley, to be precise. Both hand grenades I found were deactivated, charge and detonator removed. I've sent links to grandson where the finds I gave him match what these gents here do. I just hope it kicks off a spark of interest in our joined up history.

My dad fought there as part of the 12th SS-Division. He was 17 years old and knocked out two tanks in close combat. On the retreat he was badly wounded and his life was saved by the Americans. Even after 60 years he really got nervous when he heard the noise of a tracked vehicle live a bulldozer.

My uncle was there with the US 75th Infantry Division. He did not share a lot about the Battle of the Bulge, with his kids. But later on he did share with his brother's and sisters. For both sides it was "HELL." Stay safe during this crazy COVID19 virus.

Great video! Really enjoyed this one. I like to read books and study the Ardennes offensive. Seeing the terrain really makes one wonder what the German command was thinking about how the area could have been successful for a major armor offensive. I can only imagine how many relics have been unearthed in the Ardennes since the end of the war. Many still waiting to be found! There is also a possibility of encountering a land mine or grenade still in the area. Would be cool to see some guns Unearthed in a future relic hunt.

@@mdww2battlegrounds True! You guys are living the prime time for hunting ww2 stuff too. Here in the states, it was like that back in the 1950s and 1960s for hunting our Civil War battle fields and camps. The old timers only hunted for big signals...cannonballs, artillery shells, guns, belt plates, etc. Some of it was just under the leaves. Now, all those big signals are gone. The battle sites are off limits, etc. People like me are just getting scraps like individual buttons, bullets, etc. In places that have been hunted with metal detectors for 70 years.

Interesting your theory about an ambush... ! In that terrain/landscape... it could be true ! Somehow... like in the famous french 'bocage'... I'm curious... how... those natural landforms can be seen from the high... I also found several 'trenches'... and I still wonder if they are natural or... 'made' in WW2... ?! Sometimes I think they were made by soldiers in WW2 but... 'enlarged' by the rain... they became kind of 'drain channels'... Now... they look too large and deep to be... former WW2 'structures'... trenches, in the very well known form that we know it . But... who knows... ?

I've been watching your videos for a while and have enjoyed them tremendously. I'm in Washington state, USA. I don't know if you are still doing these videos as of 09/2020, and that's what I'm asking. Are you? Thank you for doing what you do. I had several members in my family that fought in both Europe and the Pacific. It's nice to see were they were, and in some cases, died.
