US Mint & DC Comics - Coin & Medal Series Announcement - What Are Your Thoughts? 

It’s interesting to see the various comments in the assorted videos across RU-vid about this subject. Very demographic related (I.e. as a rule, older folk hate them). My only comment about these is put the clad coins into general circulation so people can find them in their change to create interest.

I think the mint has "jumped the shark" and now is the new Franklin Mint.

I agree with their decision. Coins are always reflections of their time in some regard so avoiding pop culture as a rule doesn't seem right. I also agree with another who shared the idea that the Mint should produce real heroes from history. Explore never before struck historical figures that history has decided are heroic.

Hi Ben, this sounds like it would be good for some collectors. I would select the silver versions non-colorized with a reverse proof with some security features similar to the Britania. Batman, Superman, Aquaman, and Flash

Leave it to the US Mint to start making comic book coins when the past decade of comic book film dominance is just now coming to an end.

This seems tacky to me and I will likely not be collecting these, especially because they will probably be expensive and a poor investment.

Agree, they are late to the game, so it’s unfortunate they are “playing it safe.” I don’t wish for a failure on this series, because it shows a willingness of the mint to expand its customer base (and that’s what we need in coin collecting) - I’m more so worried the response will be underwhelming, so the mint will retreat to the same tired designs they’ve been peddling. I, too, would love to see something more artistic. It would be amazing to see coins/medals that are designed in the style of true Americana (both nostalgic and modern/futuristic). The mint needs to remember that coins are about telling stories and expressing ideals, values, and virtues. Tell stories that have real meaning and that people care about, or keep losing ground to other mints that know how to create something real.

I'm holding off until I see the proposed designs. Some the come lately have not "struck my fancy".

Total nothing burger in my view. It will be overpriced crap with no quality control, just like every other mint product.

Right now I'm not terribly happy with the US Mint. It is my own fault, but I reacted to their notice that came out around July 1st of price hikes for silver coins. I quickly ordered the special edition proof set and the proof Morgan and Peace dollars. I assumed that I was getting a better price on the 2024 coins. They arrived quickly and of course, they were 2023 coins. I already shipped them back and hope they arrive safely, but it was a bother that I didn't really need!

I do like it, for I collect comics and coins, I loved it when Canada did it, and I Loved the Marvel from I forget Somoa? Oh yeah Green Lantern/Green Arrow and either Black Canary, Robin, or Super Girl!!! A gold coin for children's cartoons? Brilliant. Save up your paper route money, Timmy! 😂Although... a Batman coin minted in silver and clad with ruthenium would be kinda badass. Or how about Howard the Duck? 😎 I would personally like to see a rock n roll series, starting with Elvis (because everything starts with Elvis!), and continuing with the likes of Chuck Berry, The Ventures, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Springsteen (if we must), KISS, Billy Joel, Van Halen, Metallica, etc., etc., to showcase America's real contribution to art and culture. Of course, the Mint would inevitably screw it up, Rock n Roll HOF-style, and put Dolly Parton and Jay-Z in the series, so maybe they'd better stick to cartoons.

Hi Ben, It is disappointing that the silver pieces will not be coins. That might keep me from collecting the entire series. I do think this program will be a big hit. It could have been better if the silver had been monetized. *>>-->* 🦉

I'm an old fogey I suppose. Could care less about any of the newer stuff. Perhaps Batman might capture my attention though.

Not interested in the DC thing, I would love to see a modern liberty head something design instead. And I agree with you 100%, the Roosevelt dime needs to go!

Just another group of 'tokens' and other issues that will be hyped on Infomercials for outrageous prices, but will already be sold out at the Mint.

I don't mind. Maybe it will spark some new creativity. I'm all for losing the presidents and going back to Liberty and new artistic designs. We don't need to redo past designs. There has to be a few good artists out there. They all can't have lived in the past.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool would be a nice reverse design. And if they are going to go to DC hero type coins would think they would do US sports team coins first like Basketball, Baseball or NFL. I'm from NZ and think jumping to DC is a bit far and wide. Keep to something Americans are more patriotic and supportive of would be way better. Make sport commeorative coins if you going to go away from the norm. Any American who gets a nobel prize, Medal of Honor should get a coin made after them automatically.

They should do the original 7 from the Justice league. This will be overpriced though. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and Martian Manhunter

I have no interest in these. Stupid heros are definitely not my thing and I suspect they will be high mintage and over priced.

The cent and the dollar bill should cease production. Dollar coins should be pushed to circulate in lieu of the dollar bill.

I'm afraid many of these will end up sitting on a table at the flea market. The idea is quite trite. Even a theme of North American animals would fare better in my opinion.

I'm not interested, plus I'm sure I'll still need coins to fill out some series... plus I'll be excited about the 250th birthday quarters, nickels, dimes, etc... getting a Batman medal is kinda boring compared to those!

I think the mint is late to the party. It's going to be a flop in my opinion. Why medals and not silver coins? I'm done with the prices and the quality of the mint. I agree whole heartedly that the mint needs a redesign on circulating coinage.

Absolutely late in the game as numerous mints out there already have comic book characters. I won't be spending money on this series, especially since it's gonna start off WAAYYY overpriced. Secondary market in a couple of years seems to be the best chance of getting this series at a price closer to spot.
