@@SKYRGRLoft Columbian? I didn’t know Washington DC had a team in the World Cup! (Seriously why does this happen so often with Americans? The country’s name is COLOMBIA!!!).
The goal against Ghana was class. That cross pass was supurb! Respect from an Aussie who supported the Yanks till we finally made it in 2006. Clint Dempsey was awesome to watch
Well the US as a whole, doesn’t really care about football (soccer). It’s treated more as a novelty than something to be proud or excited for when they do qualify and play. Most nations love football (soccer) and put their heart and spirit into their team.
Man the 2002 team was so good. If we had a prime Lando Donovan I believed they could have been a legit contender to win it all. To this day, I've never rooted so much for something in my life like i did for the US during that 3 world cups run. (2002-2010)
Banjo yeah that hand ball missed hurt. And if they had got the possible red card with it US may have very potentially won that game and gone to semi finals to play South Korea which was a very winnable match to try to get to the finals to play Brazil…..which wouldn’t have been very winnable lol, but still runners up would have been awesome.
I know. The 2006-present team always plays terrible in the first 40 minutes, then good in the last 5 of the half. Then they suck in the first 35 minutes of the second half, then they pull a goal out of their ass in the last 10 minutes.
Eric Wynalda could try that free kick 1,000,000 times in his life and never hit it. Must have been the magic of the Silverdome, but he somehow hit this bullseye from a long way out with good bend and pace.
Mexico is the most consistent team in the last 28 years of World Cups. Consistently mediocre but consistent nonetheless. What I mean by that is since 94 they’ve been on a 7 straight World Cup qualifications streak and 6 straight Rounds of 16 (but nothing past that stage). The only reason they’re not 7 for 7 is because the 2022 Qatar WC hast been played yet. So yes, USMNT did get to quarterfinals in 2002, but failed to get out of the group stage in 98 and 2006 (and didn’t even qualify for 2018). Mexico went to Round of 16 in all of those Cups. It’s weird.
@@AlexRN Mexico has reached the quartefinals twice as hosts while USA has reached the quarterfinals and the semifinals as non-hosts. Twice as impressive for USA. USA is the only country in the world to medal at the world cup that is not from europe nor south america.
The goal against Algeria was almost scored first by arguably the greatest US player, only to be scored by arguably the greatest US player. Just think Dempsey & Donovan got to play together on the same team, and both are tied for the USMNT in goals all-time.
USA will be back in 2022, Christian Pulisic is one of the best players in the world at the moment. They may not win the WC in Qatar but they will make it to the knockout stages.
Rob Finlay lol idk how much you follow soccer but pulisic is absolutely not one of the best players. For a us player yeah he’s really good but he’s not even top 100 player in the world probably Although he’s still really young and can definitely become great
Maybe... but the US team sold its soul to Klinsmann six years ago and Donovan was just the first casualty of that debacle. The rest of US are finding out what that feels like this year... I don't blame Donovan in the least.
Then again he is the leading scorer against Mexico for the USMNT, so he can sort of support whatever country he pleases (because that's what the beef is really about). But that's a cool story, Hansel.
Not really. Compared to most big footballing nations, US Soccer and the MLS are only recently becoming competitive and sustainable. The MLS and soccer here is still inits infancy, eld back by the popularity of football, basketball, hockey, etc. So that point is pretty moot, IMO.
+Caleb Block Yeah that's an awesome goal. Puts a rocket right into the roof of the net. If the keeper makes the save, he's wearing a Petor Cech helmet for the rest of his life.
McBride was such a beast, we haven't had a great striker like him since 2006. Davies came close but that car crash cut his career short sadly. Sargent is showing a lot of potential though.
Would take McBride any day at this moment. The US dosen't have quality forwards right now who play for good clubs in Europe. Sargent has potential, but he needs to toughen up a bit. But he is still young though! I am also unsure about the goalkeepers at the moment, but at least the US now have quality defenders and midfielders. McKennie, Pulisic and Adams is the best players the US have right now.
+Emma Stokes Hands down agree, Flyin' Brian McBride is my all-time favorite American player. The ONLY player the US had that could consistently win challenges in the box and direct headers on goal. Landon Donovan is probably the best all-around player USA has had, but McBride was always my favorite.
I really thought we were going to make the semifinals in 2010. Just seemed like destiny, especially the way we scored in extra time against Algeria just to make the final 16. Ghana was a good draw and we had such a great chance to win that game, and then Uruguay would have been the quarterfinal opponent, a side that was very beatable, as evidenced by the fact that Ghana should have beaten them and blew the penalty after the Suarez red card. We couldn't have asked for a better draw, really. Just couldn't get it done.
@@viksinha5410 Did you even read what I wrote? Uh, yeah, they were beatable. That was a wide open part of the draw. They got lucky to beat Ghana and Ghana was hardly some power, though they were a quality side at that time.
@@tonyhughes110 Actually Ghana were lucky to come close to beat Uruguay. Uruguay missed so many glorious chances in that game; they should have had at least 3 goals.
+Aaron Figueroa Biggest mistake was putting Keller back in goal. Not sure why Friedel wasn't back (he was great in 2002), but instead of going with a new keeper (Tim Howard named the backup keeper) Coach Arenas brought back Keller as the starter who was a hot mess in 1998. In 2006 he was also awful. Keller is the worst US World Cup keeper all time, even worse than Meola.
You mean back in the day in 1998 when the US finished in 32nd place (aka LAST place)? Or in 2006 when they floundered in the group stage? Or back in the day when they failed to qualify to any World Cup from 1954 to 1986? The USMNT has never been particularly good in World Cups, except maybe in 2002 and the fluke of a third place in freaking 1934!
@@donf4227 under the current rule it’s not offside if the defender makes a deliberate play on the ball. To me that looks like a deflection and not a play, but I guess it could be interpreted as the defender sliding in and “playing in”. I don’t know, hard to say
@@buccos2324 To me it looked like the defender made the play on the ball, and it deflected off the US player. Hard to say what the correct call should have been.
Last 4 world cup champions Italy vs USA 2006 world cup 1-1, 2009 confederations cup USA vs Spain 2-0, 2015 friendly Germany vs USA 2-1, 2018 friendly USA vs France 1-1. The USA does good against world cup champions
I didnt know but I was 9 in 1990,I just watched matches of Cameroon,I didnt know the U.S. participated but they managed very well on the picth. I began to know the U.S. Squad from 1994 which was a good team ! The U.S. has always played well actually!
Ian Darke is a wonderful announcer and commentator, love it. How could you not feel the passion he helped evoke? I enjoyed his coverage of Euro 2020 this year...
Will the US have another training camp in January 2024? I saw they had one this year and I’m really new to the whole FIFA international stuff and what the US doesn’t doesn’t do.
Those were good years for US football. It was our style of play, north American, more style than Mexico and we could have won the cup we had the teamwork
"They're excited in Columbus ..." We still are. Too bad Precourt is in Garber's back pocket to pull the rug out from under us. #forshame #savethecrew And oh look, the one good thing Michael Bradley did in his entire career. Dick.
Here's to a new Era of US soccer.. 2002 seemed to be our best squad. Crazy how loved Donovan was then but has turned into a buffoon since being left out in 2014. Put the US on the map as a respectable country, clutch goals in big games. And now cheers for Mexico.... Heres to a brighter future. Pulisic and Weah era is upon us. Hopefully they don't ever play in the MLS
Man that 2006 USA team should have done sooo much better , might be the most disappointing World Cup for me because after making it the the quarterfinals in2002 and having literally the same team just more experienced we shit the bed big time in 2006, the writing was in the wall after the first game when we got smashed by the Czech Republic
2:29 This goal is on a worlds greatest goals compilation? Right? 2:46 ........................................................................ RIP Escobar. 3:39 Good football leading up to the goal.
Great video. It's weird how we used to be so much better in 2002. Out of respect, you should've edited out Escobar's own goal, since he was murdered because of it.
