Hi everyone I’m back with new content! This is probably the most detailed repair example I’ve done to date, I got the camera in closer than ever before, so you are practically seeing everything that I see when I’m doing my thing!

@@piter837 It's rare to get hail damage in the UK although I have done a few in my time which were damaged in another country. For deep dents you need to master using sharp tools to shrink the metal, otherwise you may need to use something like a PDR Hotbox, using an electrode underneath the panel to shrink the metal:-)

The old time masters that did comparable stuff with heavier gauge steel used in earlier cars almost always had to use heat spots to shrink that thicker metal which of course mean't a re-paint. You're at their old world craftsman level with far more difficult thinner stock to work with and end up leaving the paint pristeen. Unbelievable, until you actually see it being done. Kudos!

I have a few dents in my 208; most are conker-related and of no consequence, but there's a larger one on the offside wing which is unsightly, hidden mainly by the black paintwork. My suspension was making a noise so I decided to bounce the car to check if I could hear anything, unfortunately I opted to do so via the wing and not the bonnet... cue an indentation caused by my hand. I got most of it out via improvisation (I found a bit of thin metal, there was a gap under the bonnet, a bit of levering and it popped up) however I'm not comfortable with fixing what remains, which is about 40 to 45mm in width. Unfortunately, living in Harrogate means I'm scared to find out just how much somebody might choose to rip me off...

Thanks for the educational channel ! 👍🏼
@1st_track_dents
@1st_track_dents 4 года назад
Thanks for watching my content. The metal has a point of where it just stretches too far. Creases in general are the problem dents, some are removable but some are just too sharp. Also there are so many types of metal, so that always makes it more difficult, there is mild steel, high strength steel, advanced high strength steel, and various combinations of Aluminium, so you really have to know what you are working with. All the best!

@@1st_track_dents yeah things won't be returning to the way they were anytime soon, so we need to adapt. I'd just took a job in aerostructures in Feb, my big break, then BOOM - Coronavirus. Have been furloughed since, and doubtful I'll have a job going forward. Got to be positive though! Adapt! Would there be any chance of doing a video on features to look for on PDR bars etc before purchase? I bought a set from Amazon - I expected them to be s**t - but not THAT s**t. Thinking of making something myself tbh, if I knew the features/materials etc I reckon I could make something decent and usable!

@@PurpleHelmet Sorry to hear that, I've heard lots of stories of people who have had a real tough time through this. I'm sure you will bounce back and get back on your feet again. I think we have all learnt what businesses are more protected now from these types of episodes. I certainly have changed my mindset of what I am going to do with my business moving forward. I will also now be having to make all my own tools due to all of this. To be honest a basic tool kit can be made by yourself, it's just getting the right type of metal, that's the main thing, I've even been learning a bit on heat treating steel!
