@AlexBanzea I just wanted to say thanks for the content. I've focussed on the Jobava London for a couple of months and your videos have really helped me progress. I like the "3 actual games" format with the sort of moves that you actually encounter in real games. Too many courses focus on typical GM moves but I don't get to play a lot of titled players at my level! Keep them coming...

In the last game, near the end, with your queen attacked by his rook - but the rook was pinned by your rook, and he took your pawn with his queen, attacking your queen - wouldn’t you take his rook for check, he’d have to take back with his bishop, then you take his queen. That leaves him with just one rook and a bishop against your queen and two bishops and other rook - an easier ending with less chances for black. You got my votes (for different categories, not because I voted twice).

Game 2 is crucial. Everyone and their mom plays e6 and pins the c3 knight around 1000-1200 elo. All the cool looking games where you chase opponent's g4 bishop never actually happen, because white's light square bishop always winds up blocked in by pawn chain. And if by some miracle it's not blocked in, they often just put it on d7 or e6 lol

Alex for the WIN! And another Win! and Another Win! Alex has become the Meryl Streep of Chessable. Though I haven't started his actual courses I've bought, I've listened to hours of his youtube videos. The best "take away" thus far has been his advice to "cool it" after securing an advantage. I'll leave the "dating scenario" similes to him but after finding an advantage, often I's get too aggressive and blunder it away. Now, if I remember, I sit back, trade when appropriate, and let the advantage ... what phrase did one chess player said, "...speak for itself."

Good to hear that the Jobava course will be more focused. I definitely felt overwhelmed with all the variations in your London course. While I do appreciate how indepth it is, it makes it harder for me to train and remember the key lines. I think having the pgn available for indepth study on the side is a great compromise. Basically train and learn the key lines and have a reference on the side when oddball lines pop up and we want to see what you recommend against them.

Alex, when I was a young kid (72 years ago) and my bother and sister were getting into mischief, I remember the phrase, “ut-oh, here comes mommy with the wooden spoon.” So when I saw you mention the wooden spoon on one of your videos, I got a big smile on my face - knowing the specter of the “wooden spoon” crossed generations and cultures.

Great explanation of a very strong opening. *_Can I please ask what is your best intermediate (1400-1800) recommendation against d4 as black?_* Back to the jobava, I love it! Its not as easy to play as the london for an intermediate player like me because it is not a system and you have to react more accurately to your opponents moves, but you do an excellent job of breaking down the lines and making them logical so I can work it out for myself instead of having to memorise many moves and I am starting to see good results, especially in rapid 15|10 where I have more time to think. So we have the caro kaan against e4 as black but I would love to see your in depth analysis of your best recommended response to d4 (unless I am dumb and you have already done this). I find the Kings Indian very complex to play after the first 10-15 moves so I have been trying the dutch because many d4 players dont know the lines well but I don't see many GMs playing it so probably it's not very strong even if it brings some easy wins! Do you think the polish (b5) has good potential as black because again it might not be the strongest opening but many d4 players have no idea how to play against it? Thanks a lot Alex for your great channel. I always leave a like 😁👍
@michaelrichards5363
@michaelrichards5363 5 месяцев назад
That's a good question. I don't like playing the King's Indian Defence or the Pirc either. They seem weak against the Austrian attack and the Four Pawns so I would like to know Alex's best overall D4 response too. I have tried the standard stuff like QGD and even QGA but as an E4 player with white I don't like to play 1. D5 as black either. I sometimes transpose to the French Defence but the opponent has to play 2. E4 for this to work. I agree that Alex explains things very well.

I enjoy your quirky patter - you have a wicked sense of humour. I have had the pleasure of working with many absolutely superb Romanian geoscience folks over the years several while I was on contract in Albania many years ago. I am a 69 year old wood pusher who still struggles to get into the 2000s - I keep remaining blind to so many dumb blunders when in winning positions. I try the puzzles on Lichess and generally get to a round 2200 before falling back again from silly mistakes. But in rapid games I struggle to get much above 1600 - I just think too slow - or too fast... I have enjoyed your Jobava London material - and I have quite a lot of fun (and wins) with what I have learned - I still struggle a bit to find the best responses when someone with black does something funny - I just have to get better at understanding that my moves really do depend on just what my opponent does - and moves have to make sense in every new combination. (I get there after embarrassing myself enough times!) I have a good mining friend ten years my senior and we have fun laying aided by some fine scotches. (I do not think that improves our games - but it is fun nonetheless!) Keep up the good work and keep that sunny attitude too.

Its a more tactics driven and less memorization from what ive heard.
