Great Haul Vin! The artwork in that Conan graphic novel looks beautiful! I have never heard of that american gospel book it looks interesting. I've been reading The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride it's Barnes & Noble's book of 2023 I recently picked up The Enlightenment: The Pursuit of Happiness 1680-1790 by Ritchie Robertson It is a beast of a book I plan on reading it for March of the Mammoths. It would also qualify for quarter 3 of historathon.
I found the Chernow Warburg book a few weeks ago at a local library annex. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the stuff I find there too, especially when I get a chance to visit immediately after they've restocked. I'd pay good money for that Poe edition. Nice finds, VIn.
Great book haul Vin! The "Tales of Mystery and Imaginations of Edgar Allan Poe" looks great as does that gladius on your wall. Do you have other replica swords from the ancient world?
I am currently reading Ron chernow’s book grant. I like it so far. I have Hamilton but haven’t read it. It doesn’t have a cover which is a bummer but I bought it at a library sale. I picked up grant for the month of the mammoths read for march. I am also reading gods and generals by heft Shaara and I love it. Also I am doing a reread if I, Eliza Hamilton.
Nice acquisitions. Hard to go wrong with Conan or Poe. Haven't read Hamilton yet, but I really enjoyed Chernow's biography of Grant. Oddly enough, I thought the Civil War years made for the least compelling material, probably because it was very familiar territory for me. I think Chernow's upcoming book is about Mark Twain. Considering how fun the Twain portrayal was toward the end of Grant, I would think the book has a lot of potential. Have a nice weekend!
Chernow would have done well to co-write with an MBA who understood finance, because Ron certainly does not. I have the same comment about his book about the Warburgs.
