Definitely a question with many, many answers depending on who you ask. For me, I love to experiment with different chords and progressions in my free time and with music I write on the side. I super appreciate intricate and “different” styles compared the the normalcy of CCM. But I also feel there’s a time and place for simplicity (especially when it comes to music that presents the Gospel) for few reasons…but the main reason being that I think overcomplicated instrumental parts can sometimes distract from the message of the song and also the sing-ability of a song. Some of the most powerful, congregational songs (in my opinion) are simple melodies that rely heavily on voices coming together, with the instruments complimenting the moment without overpowering.

I asked Sir-Mix-a-lot on twitter how he made the low bass sounds on "Testarossa". He replied! He said detune the 808's kick drum and stack them on top of each other. I'm not sure if this applies to the sound you are trying to make...

This isn't technically sub bass though, sub bass is the inaudible bass tones that you feel.

@@xxheartbrokexx100 no it's from 20-60Hz so right at the bottom range of what you can hear, this is sub bass.

Nhk Log I’m sure it would sound a lot better when mixed how it would be during a service. He had the bass louder in the mix for demonstrational purposes.

No it’s not dude it makes it freaking slap.. you don’t use the bright tones ever. The soft low end ones sound amazing.
