Our 1995 Fountain 24CS project boat needs some serious restoration on the gelcoat thanks to many years of neglect. The gelcoat is faded and oxidized badly. After doing some research I determined I wanted to use Glidecoat's products as they seem to have a great reputation and the prices were competitive. So I got their 30 foot boat restoration kit, and we set off polishing the Fountain 24 with all our might.
We ended up using the heavy cut compound, the nano compound, the nano polish, surface prep, and finally the Glidecoat ceramic coating. The end results speak for themselves! The boat looks stunning!

Beautiful boat! I did this back in June on an 18ft white/blue bayliner. I couldn't imagine doing this on such a large boat and such a hard color. Amazing results.

Yeah boats are a lot more surface area than cars. But I think the gelcoat is more forgiving than paint so that made it easier.

Looks good, A quick suggestion. Don't use too much of the heavy compound. That's why you have to blow it off and you clog up the pad. Get some speed into the pad and be gentle, and just lest the pad break the compound down so it can do its work. Cutting a gelcoat like this is in many ways like cutting a single stage paint on an older Ferrari. Only difference is that here you have a lot to work with, on an older Ferrari you burn though the paint in no time🙂Also on softer surfaces like gelcoat and soft paint, try going straight from heavy to a finishing compound. They cut so easily that they can often be cut with minimal effort once the oxidation and such is gone.

I would not recommend anyone use a plain orbital polisher if you don't know what you're doing. Use a random orbital polisher with at least a 9mm throw.

I'm thinking the cut & polish, plus clearcoat, should give the boat another 1-2 mph top speed by cutting down on surface drag. Please check this out next time on the water!.... Provided you treat all the wetted surfaces, at minimum the back half of the bottom/the planing surface!!

I can tell you are car guys... should have watched some video's on gel coat. Definitely needed a wet sanding. May look good now but to truly fix the coat needs a 1k sanding. Then you can follow up with that kit of yours.
