Wanted to give a update, so I been using this for about 3 weeks now I do not run a protein skimmer at all I have my power head pointed towards the surface of the water so far I’m dosing 0.5ml per day with daily testing of my water to make sure. It’s worked amazing nitrates are now in check always keeps my water parameters more stable in my nano reef. I would highly recommend this product. My fish are behaving normally has not decreased my o2 levels by not running a skimmer I do run 2 pumps though for extra water movement and airation so your results may not be what mine are. I know a lot of people have said if u don’t run a skimmer nutrients will leak back in but so far they have not at all still keeping an eye on everything. I rather not have to get a skimmer if I don’t have to and if I notice something starting to act up I can pick one up was just curious on how effective it would be without one as well.

hey i love buying NoPox from you guys! y i have used it forever. i have been wondering if you can help me answer this question about it? I started using "Poly-Marine Poly Filter" in my sump, just to keep my water polished. Been wondering if the Poly Filter might be absorbing any Nopox i've been dosing, along with Red Sea Trace Colors? Is the Poly Filter a bad idea if i'm dosing these extras? Man i hope i haven't wasted all that dosing money!!!!

The stuff is poison, either acetone or iso alcohol. Not voldka. 40 gallon tank is pretty small. You probably put more in that you realized and killed them. The clowns are usually tough the shrimp die easier.

@Physics072
@Physics072 Год назад
You have so much hair algae its giving you a false low reading. Its using it up thus lowering the nitrates. You need to outcompete the hair. A bio pellet reactor will do it + UV filter + water changes. This stuff might do the same but not sure why people are killing fish with it.

Ive been using this for 1.5 years in a softie tank now. Only takes 2ml per day for a 250L tank so lasts forever. You absolutely need good skimming for this to work. Mostly for the O2 it provides for the water. Would recommend.

I used this stuff one time with half the recommended dose and it killed all my fish overnight. I believe this was because I also added bacteria at the same time and it used up all the oxygen in the water and suffocated them. I still feel guilty. I haven't used it since I am too hesitant.

You could dose 1ml at a time testing your water every hour before adding anymore go to red seas wizard calculator and you can find a ballpark of what your dose should be and just keep testing till it hits that spot then check levels again the next day before dosing again once you figured out your tanks routine you can figure out your tanks proper daily dose

My tank is new and I bought live rock and sand from someone shutting their tank down along with a few fish (3) My nitrate levels have gone through the roof. I’ve tried doing water changes and hasn’t really come down still between 80-140. I was considering trying carbon dosing to reduce it. Or is it still too high to carbon dose to reduce? I dunno what to do. Water changes are expensive and time consuming
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 года назад
Ultimately, you have to balance what's going into the tank and what's being removed through filtration and water changes. Carbon dosing is a great tool, but won't be the only key to successfully reducing your nitrates. Regular water changes are unfortunately going to have to be part of the plan. You might also consider additional filtration like a chaeto refugium to help out too.

@KlimovArtem1
@KlimovArtem1 6 лет назад
I used it for about 2 years, trying to get rid of algae, that was covering all of my rocks. I had a huge skimmer too. Nothing really helped. Yes, NoPoX helps to reduce nitrates and a little bit phosphates, but overdosing it can easily bleach your corals. Even having undetectable levels of nitrates and phosphates and bleaching corals, I still had lots of hair algae everywhere. Until one day I showed the photo of my algae to some friend and he said it’s bryopsis - really tricky kind. So, NoPoX does not help much in this case. I restarted my tank. Stoped dosing NoPoX, left only two little fish (decreased bio load), fewer rocks, removed skimmer and even GFO and treated everything with Fluconazole. The tank got super clean and healthy in just 3 weeks. Now about 7 months passed and everything looks fine, I did several water changes, started growing SPS and can give them brighter light than before - they don’t bleach. Nitrates at about 20-30 ppm, but my corals seem to love it, phosphates - undetectable, hair algae don’t come back. No NoPoX, not even skimmer - just some Chaeto in a sump.

NOPOX is basically the old White vinegar & alcohol carbon dosing method rebranded, just google DIY NOPOX learn about this & how to make your own much more cheaply. I feel Redsea were a little misleading with their marketing of this product claiming it contained special blends of carbons & organic bonded elements which made it far superior to the traditional DIY formulas.

Avoid dosing this to a new tank as the bacteria you're wanting to grow to manage ammonia and nitrites will need to utilize some phosphate in their reproduction process.

I cant get this to lower my nitrates below 10! They shot up to about 80 when I added a ton of frags and then feeding with reefroids. It ititally lowered them down to 10 but wont go below that. I started feeding nightly red sea reefenergy plus nightly so maybe thats why but it claims to not up nitrates. The directions are so unclear. I dont have the directions that came with the bottle but on the bottom it says . >10 no3 >1 dose 3. What the heck does that mean? Sounds like greater than 10 but why the greater sign and a 1? Says same thing below that line. I dosed 6 a couple of times and now I am wondering if thats why my fish died, although one had microscopic dots and cloudy eyes. 3 dead now ,no spots, just lack of color and one fine. I am doing a water change and stopping the reef energy except for maybe 2 x's a week. Just sucks cause I am going to quaritine the one left and keep tank fishless because the one had spots. I had that fish for over 6 months though! so confusing. I have avery good skimmer and 36 gallon plus about 10 in the sump. so thats about the dosage for that amount but daily for weeks might be the problem. Most people I dont think tank weeks and stay at 10! I think I will chuck the bottle and order a new one fro m you guys!

@KlimovArtem1
@KlimovArtem1 6 лет назад
Mason Roberson any carbon dosing solution can be used only with a strong protein skimmer. Not just because of depleting oxygen, but also to remove the grown bacteria. When they say that NoPoX feeds bacteria that turns nitrates to nitrogen gas, it sounds like a fairy tail to me. Such process can be done only in extreme low oxygen environment, like in a deep sand bed.
