BJ opens the box of the new Trumpeter 1/200 USS Enterprise CV-6 aircraft carrier kit.
This is an impressive kit of a massive aircraft carrier with plenty of fine parts for detail and heaps of photo-etched parts.
USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a Yorktown-class carrier built for the United States Navy during the 1930s. She was the seventh U.S. Navy vessel of that name. Colloquially called "The Big E", she was the sixth aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. Launched in 1936, she was one of only three American carriers commissioned before World War II to survive the war (the others being Saratoga and Ranger). She participated in more major actions of the war against Japan than any other United States ship. These actions included the attack on Pearl Harbor - 18 Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers of her Air Group arrived over the harbor during the attack; seven were shot down with eight airmen killed and two wounded, making her the only American aircraft carrier with men at Pearl Harbor during the attack and the first to sustain casualties during the Pacific War[3] - the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, various other air-sea engagements during the Guadalcanal Campaign, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Enterprise earned 20 battle stars, the most for any U.S. warship in World War II, and was the most decorated U.S. ship of World War II. She was also the first American ship to sink a full-sized enemy warship after the Pacific War had been declared when her aircraft sank the Japanese submarine I-70 on 10 December 1941. On three occasions during the war, the Japanese announced that she had been sunk in battle, inspiring her nickname "The Grey Ghost". By the end of the war, her planes and guns had downed 911 enemy planes, sunk 71 ships, and damaged or destroyed 192 more.

Thanks Nelson! Yes, the kit is well packaged but Trumpeter has a way to go to match Tamiya with the boxart and package colours. The kit itself is first class. Big kits need big space and huge patience from the builder.

I've just enjoyed watching your unboxing of the Trumpeter 1/200 uss Enterprise. Have you done any follow-up videos of the actual build? I would like to build this model (ideally the CVN 65 in 1/200 scale) but make it radio controlled for propulsion. To see how the kit goes together would give me an idea of how I could build the kit but have access to the motors, batteries etc. Many thanks.

Thank you for watching! I have unboxed the kit but do not plan to build it. There is plenty of room to add motors, prop tubes & shafts, rudder, rc and batteries. You will need plan how to modify the hull so you will have access to the internals. I suggest you get the kit and dry assemble it to work it out.

@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne what is wrong with Trumpeter? The only time the USS Enterprise was in grey was Pre-war. Leading to the battle of Midway she was painted Sea Blue (5S), and thereafter Navy Blue (5N) except for a period, where she was in a dazzle of Navy Blue and Haze Grey. The deck being Deck Blue (20-B) for most of the time. Some research would not go astray.
@DavidRLentz

You write that the Enterprise was about 60 metres longer than the Titanic. The carrier was 246.7 metres (809'6") (later extended to 827'5") long o.a. The passenger liner was 269 metres (882'9") long o.a.

Also for anyone wanting to know more about the history of the BIG E; It was the most decorated US ship in World War Two, fighting in almost every naval engagement of the pacific war. It was also known as the grey ghost, as the Japanese landed several severe blows to her throughout the war but the ship would be repaired so quickly the Japanese often thought it was another ship, much like the USS Lexington.

I got the 1/200 hornet about 5 years ago and it's still sitting there, is there any difference between this and the hornet?
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne 3 года назад
There were external differences between Hornet and her sister ships Yorktown and Enterprise. Among other things, Hornet's flight deck was 16' longer and she was equipped with the heavier MK 37 director, which necessitated a less prominent mast structure than that of her sister ships. steelnavy.com/Hornet%20history.htm
@joshuariddensdale2126

I've seen both 1/350 and 1/200 versions of Enterprise and Yorktown. The price of 1/350 kits has really gone up in recent months. They're like $250. For that price, I can just about get 1/200.
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne 2 года назад
The 1/350 kits are having more photoetch added to them that pushes up their price. Making a bigger kit does cost more in tooling but not double the price. Hence why the bigger kits look attractive when compared to the smaller scales.
@DavidRLentz
@DavidRLentz 2 года назад
In addition to this, and the USS Missouri, I also would like to see a kit of 1) the Baltimore-class heavy cruiser; 2) the Cleveland-class light cruiser; 3) the Fletcher-class destroyer; 4) the Essex-class aircraft carrier; 5) the Sumner-class destroyer; 6) the Gearing-class destroyer. And the various support vessels (oiler, supply ship, tender, etc.). I would like to see each of these kits to include parts, instructions, historical outline, etc., to enable one to build a replica of any in that class.

Mauro: if you need an extra room for your ship models, you don't need to go to expense of adding on a new room. Just buy an enclosed cargo trailer and voila -- a mobile new room. You can line the walls with models, hang the Enterprise 1/200 upside down from the ceiling and have the Yamato on the floor. Make your own 'in the round' or Cyclorama effect. Or the floor could be used for some Tall Ships. Napoleonic battle recreations. Have them lined up, masts falling, cottons balls for smoke from the guns . . . But I am a dreamer. Yes, too much coffee and ideas flowing at 0600 hrs in Georgia US . . . But it sounds cool to me. : )

need to pull out a small loan to purchase that model... as for the ship's history, you need to be more accurate... This enterprise (and all other carriers at the time of the attack) WAS NOT present at Pearl Harbor during the attack. The Big E was out to see. The only element from the carrier was a Recon mission of 8 aircraft who, accidentally ended up in the middle of the attack. The only "Strike" CV-6 did that had anything to do with Pearl Harbor was made against an inaccurate radio report of a Japanese carrier out at sea. The Enterprise and the erroneous Japanese carrier were several hundred miles away from Pearl Harbor. The Big E didn't even pull into P.H. until the next day.

Things that fulfill your soul. One person's dreams don't equal another's even in a good marriage. Understanding and much more make up a great marriage. It's called love. But, If it's a bad marriage, and you can't make it better, contact an attorney and serve her some papers and straighten her up. Bad joke. The manufacturer priced this kit as they did because they determined that the consumer demand for it would be rather moderate; it is a specialty item. Were millions of people to order one (or more), the price would drop to round $300. Then, years ago, other kit makers would have produced a similar one. If Tamiya had designed the molds for such a model, the sales would be double or greater! The price would be noticably higher, too.
