Hello! I received my 1st take home test and I’ve seen conflicting thoughts online as to when to involve a hiring manager/product manager in the process of test completion. One example stated that the way designers conduct themselves during the test sometimes says more about them than the design itself ie. if they’re going through the whole process alone without including stakeholder in the process. I want to make it clear to them I am considering users needs before my own assumptions but am content going at it alone for this test. (Which I am concerned is a personal failing from someone with more of a graphic design background than a Ux one as I’m transitioning) They are just asking for a Figma file but didn’t specify a case study. I am assuming even if it’s not a fleshed out case study to have a smaller mock one as a presentation to go along with my Figma file to explain my thought process. I have 6 days left to complete both! I am at a point of low fidelity digital wireframes and have asked some friends for feedback on the design itself but as this is my first test I am super scared of leaving things out or not asking the product manager the right questions! Help! Lol Also your content is great thank you so much for this knowledge!
Apologies for the late response 😊 I hope your interview went well. There is no right answer unfortunately, different companies will judge you differently. I have had bad feeback about not doing enough UI, sometimes I had bad feedback about not focusing enough on asking enough questions. The best thing you can do next time is ask them when they brief you, what they deem important. Just try adding as much as you can and hope for the best. Good luck 🌟
Thanks for your response! I didn’t end up getting it and I had sent them a separate linkedin message asking for feedback and they haven’t seen it yet lol. I’m assuming it’s luck of the draw in terms of your qualifications and the hiring manager as well.
